  1. Wow. That was a terrible reverse.
  2. Here we go. We've got something going here.
  3. Nice 3 and out by the defense. Come on offense!
  4. Had a nice start to the game and Jones kills it. WTG Jones.
  5. Geez. Shut your mouth TJ. Idiot.
  6. Think the pressure is on Rex tonight?
  7. Geez Obama. What are you doing? :x
  8. I must've missed the part where Hendry actually said that. There was a quote buried in the Lilly thread where Hendry told Lilly he was going after a "big LH bat". I assume this is what BigbadB is referring to. Cliff Floyd? I really, really hope that isn't Hendry's idea of a "big LH bat". Floyd is nothing more that a role/part-time player at this point in his career. He's good to have on the team, but he's not going to provide the impact the offense needs.
  9. Not a whole lot different than "Mock Headline #2" IIRC. I don't think Baltimore would want Jones though, they have too many left-handed OF already. It would likely be necessary to get help from a 3rd team (Jones/Mateo to Colorado, Jennings/Marshall/Marmol/Izturis to Baltimore, Tejada to Chicago). I like the idea of Pie in center. Give him a chance. Bat him 7th in the order and hope for the best. If we could find a significant upgrade to Izturis at short, Pie could be hidden without a problem, he could even move up in the order if he produces offensively. I don't doubt Pie could exceed Izturis' .245/.295/.318 line from '06. That said, I would still do whatever possible to aquire Ryan Church or have Baltimore include a LH outfielder (Patterson?) in the deal. It would seem Soriano is going to be our RF for quite a while so... Soriano DeRosa Lee Tejada Ramirez Murton Pie Barrett Theriot Patterson Cedeno Ward Blanco Thoughts? No chance in hell Patterson comes back to the Cubs. True. We've already had our yearly Orioles/Cubs trade this year.
  10. The only question would be is DeRosa good enough to play SS full-time. I see he's played there occasionally over the years, but nowhere near full-time. How is his defense? Is it good enough to play SS full-time? That's all I'd worry about. Anything to get Izturis out of the starting lineup is fine by me.
  11. I must've missed the part where Hendry actually said that. There was a quote buried in the Lilly thread where Hendry told Lilly he was going after a "big LH bat". I assume this is what BigbadB is referring to.
  12. I'm less worried about Houston than I am about St. Louis. Jocketty has shown over and over again that he's an excellent GM. He's very creative and gets the most out of the budget he's given. Luckily the Cardinals farm system isn't very good right now so they don't have that many trading chips.
  13. So at least 3 years and $24 million for Batista? The contracts just keep getting worse and worse. This is about plan D for the Cards, and they missed out again. I've seen rumors that they're talking to the Yankees about Pavano and still have interest in bringing back Suppan, but Suppan's contract demands might be too high. I'm really wondering what Jocketty will do next. He's missed out on quite a few pitchers and they need 2 starting pitchers to fill out their rotation. They can't be serious about putting Looper into the rotation. The Cardinals have been lying in the weeds so far this offseason, and I'm really interested in what they're going to do.
  14. It was quite informal, as he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and spoke in slang. In all honesty, I think this is a matter of semantics. I'm guessing a formal trade request involves a written letter from the player and the agent with lawyers involved (so as to avoid any possible breach of contract). I remain convinced that Jones let Hendry know he wants out, and Hendry let Jones know he was willing to try to oblige, if he just remained quiet on the matter. Nothing formal need be involved. Plus, would Muskat really know anyways? Not like she's tops on Hendry's list of people in the know. I'm sure Jones let Hendry know that he'd rather play somewhere else next year, and Hendry asked Jones to keep it quiet so the Cubs had a chance at getting the most value possible for him.
  15. Why? Are you advocating regular usage of a late inning defensive replacement? Are there any rumors of the Cubs being interested in Steve Finley for a 1 year deal? God I hope not. Finley's last 2 years: 2005: .222/.271/.374/.645 2006: .246/.320/.394/.714 Plus, he'll be 42 years old this coming year. We're better off just putting Pie out there.
  16. It's going to be interesting to see if the Rangers are going to non-tender Wilkerson tommorow. I wonder if the Cubs would look into giving him a contract. If he comes back healthy after shoulder surgery he could put us some solid numbers in CF.
  17. Pie hit .283 with a .341 OBP in Iowa last season. He was really mashing the ball the last month and a half or so. .310/.365/.548/.913 (126 AB) August .444/.500/.889/1.389 (18 AB) September I don't know if Pie is "ready," but he's pretty close. Pie was terrible during the Dominican Winter League. His line: .216/.263/.272/.535 It's a small sample (only 125 at-bats), but it's still pretty awful. In an ideal world I'd like to see him spend all of next year in AAA with a call-up in September. He can then have the CF spot in 2008 if he shows he's ready.
  18. I don't think the Dodgers are getting enough in that scenario. I think they could get more for Penny.
  19. Plus I think some team out there will give Huff a full-time job instead of just a backup/pinch hitter.
  20. I feel the same way. It's not bad having Floyd and Murton splitting time in LF because Floyd isn't going to be able to take the majority of the at-bats because of his health issues. I see Murton getting most of the at-bats with Floyd getting around 300 at-bats. If Murton comes out and lights the world on fire then we have a great pinch hitter in Floyd.
  21. Link Not cool. Not cool at all. :wall: So this is what it sounds like when doves cry. I don't see this as bad news at all. I just see this as the Nationals aren't getting what they want from other teams in terms of trade proposals, so they do something like this so teams don't think they're that worried about trading Church. I think we'll probably see something like this concerning Jones in the not-too-distant future if Hendry doesn't think he's getting enough back in proposals.
  22. So you're saying Soriano and DeRosa are the right guys in front of the middle of the order?
