  1. This is the situation and the type of pitcher that the Cubs can really take advantage of.
  2. 35 games in 34 days is going to be tough for them. But then again they are the luckiest team in the history of baseball. Let's just take care of business and try not to worry about them. I don't think Joaquin Andujar felt too lucky. Considering they got jobbed out of a world championship by one of the worst umpiring calls in memory, I don't think they can qualify. I don't even know who that is, I was born in 81 so i dont remember what you are referring to. Finding a 30 year old, soon-to-be best hitter in baseball after every team had past on him 2,238 times would more than even out whatever you are referring to. But I don't really care. If you looked at my paragraph construction, you'd see that I viewed the first and last sentence as the most important of my prior post.

  4. Do they run out for Lou? Becuase that is an excuse too unless one believes in his infalibility. It is down right stupid, yes stupi .to look at Murton's situation and form the opion that "excuses start to run out". I don't feel like rehashing the details but sparing playing time is about the worst way to judge a player. Especially a palyer who has shown good production given regular playing time at every level he's played. If you are going to call someone or their opinion stupid you better be darned sure your grammar and spelling are on point. This is a message board not English class waht was I tinkdg?

  6. Did they respond with the first-pitch swinging GIDP from yesterday? I love Murton and all but it seems as though this year his at-bats are not up to the quality they were last year. I know the playing time argument but I am not swayed by the Dusty-esque play the under-performing player because I like him argument at this point in the season. I think we are going to see Murton go down if Soriano comes back before Sept. 1. Pie's playoff roster value is significantly higher than Murton's at this point.
  7. Ward and Eyre look like they love trips to the dessert.
  8. Anyone think there's a possibility that the Sept. 1 date was considered due to the playoff roster deadline of Aug. 31 unless the player is on the DL? Which would give them time to determine who would be on the playoff roster between most likely Murton and Pie. Not that its a smart idea but its possible. And if he does come up who gets sent down and left off of the playoff roster?
  9. Their Expected Wins v. Losses went from 63-60 before the game to..... 60-64 after. Wow.
  10. This doesn't deserve the week or so worth of attention they got here. I'm disappointed every time I see it come back up to the top of the forum.
  11. Ditto. I'd rather have Ward out there with his new found power stroke.
  12. "THROW [expletive] STRIKES!" - Lou Piniella
  13. Best Trade Ever!!! Glad I never doubted it.
  14. I'm sure glad bochy already took out bonds who would've batted in the bottom of the inning.
  15. Is it just me or does that not look too bad? Daytime-- Isolated T-storms, 30% chance of precipitation. Isn't it better than yesterdays 100% chance of precipitation? And BTW if it confused anyone else, it's just a link to a weather site, not an actual announcement on any official postponements. That's the link to tomorrow's weather... click on Today's Weather to get the good ol' 100% chance. I bet when Aramis Fan posted the link "tomorrow's weather" was the correct link, since it was 8/19 when he posted.
  16. I'm surprised no one has pointed out the lack luster reputation the Newark Star Ledger has.
  17. When did we ever doubt him?? lol Change that Magic Number
  18. I can hear that beautiful song playing all the way down here.
  19. Anyone doing PBP? Yahoo crapped out again.
  20. Maybe they didn't like what the claiming team was offering/had available?
  21. I wonder if this counts my sweet custom The Riot t-shirt jersey?
  22. Let's make this late season 4 game series against the Cards as memorable as the one in 2003. Or even moreso if the Umps don't pull a "let's screw Moises Alou again."
  23. am I undersyanding that right? it sounds like it isn't a big deal, like it could even be random. even if true, it would pretty much fall in line with similar studies. I would find it hard to believe that the error in such a study would be less than 2 or 3% let alone less than 1% As a statistics student for 2 years, I believe that the margin of error is usually around 3% (based on sample size of the population). A 1% differential? You gotta be kidding me. How is that significant? It's not, the guy just needed a story. Someone should MSNBC a refresher in stats, so they don't print this garbage.
  24. Battery if he actually made contact.
