  1. To pick a random line from a thread I didn't have the stomach to read and go in a related but different direction, the thing that really grinds my gears about this team is that they're tied with the Royals for 6th place MLB-wide in the Fecal League standings (tied with the Royals...puke), and doing it with the third-highest payroll in baseball. The only other team with a comparably laughable relationship between payroll and standings is the Mariners, who occupy the 3rd-worst record in baseball with the 9th-highest payroll.
  2. This is what I'm talking about. If the Cubs are going to be bad, laughable is the way to go.
  3. I am so on board with this. When the Cubs are winning a lot, they could play just about any song and I'll love it. When they're losing, we don't have to suffer through it. But day in, day out, we are subjected to listening to some idiot in the booth who doesn't belong there. Bill Murray any chance they get should be the only guest conductor allowed. Otherwise, they should leave the singing up to Len or Ron, or (FSM forbid) they just play the organ and let the fans sing it.
  4. I didn't realize until just now how little it did for me watching Lee hit that homerun in the 8th. Good for Gonzalez.
  5. Good for Woody. I'm definitely rooting for a Yankees repeat now.
  6. So what ..... you can't find a way to lay over in Chicago for a day or two ??? Nope. My leave time for the entire year was pretty tightly budgeted even before I spent those 9 days in Sacramento in May. I don't have the days to throw around like I used to. EDIT - If I go to Monterey, the whole trip will only be 2 or 3 days.
  7. If the options are Howry and taking a chance on someone who will likely be nothing more than a young, crappy Howry, I'll take the latter. Nothing justifies Howry.
  8. I won't make it up there, no. I'm up for a sweet week-long gig in Texas starting that weekend, and if I don't get it, I'll be going to Monterey to see Caitlin.
  9. I'm still having trouble accepting that Howry is on this team again, and that he still gets playing time.
  10. He took away Colvin's Lefty-righty advantage, Dude.
  11. It would have been nice to see Kosuke put the ball in play that inning.
  12. Make no mistake, that's very sox-like. The word you're looking for is "Marmol-like." Though he induced some popups, rather than knee-buckling strikeouts, so maybe he's slipping.
  13. The operation my squadron scheduled me to work tonight from 3pm-3am just got canceled. If that's not good mojo for tonight's game, I don't know what is.
  14. I'll watch WGN anyway. Bring on the Becker marathon.
  15. I need to leave and DVR the game. [stupid question] Does anyone know if there's a way to tell which of the options on DirecTV is the CSN broadcast? There's nothing in the program description I can find that gives any clues as to which team's broadcast we'd be watching until the game is on. [/stupid question]
  16. I saw a little blurb in a recap about Soriano being lifted after a couple of defensive miscues. What happened?
  17. "I'd just like to congratulate you on all your success. You smell terrific!"
  18. I'm gonna DVR the game and catch it this evening. I'm half-hoping I end up with six episodes of Becker instead.
  19. Despite sharing the relatively low expectations, I'm definitely excited for this season. Watching things like players having breakout seasons, Soriano's hot streaks (though they're fewer and farther between), Ramirez raking, Z/Dempster dominating, and those few epic and improbable comeback wins will definitely outweigh all the garbage like lineup black holes, offensive dry spells, and bullpen collapses. I much prefer the time of year when I get to complain about how lousy the Cubs are doing over the time of year I don't get to watch them.
  20. Something about Wells starting feels good. Cubs get out of town with a win.
  21. Baseball season at last. Six months is a long time to pretend to be interested in anything else. Time to watch the first-place Cubs start their epic 2010 season. Play ball !!!!!!
  22. Once management finally gets around to making changes on the coaching front, this is the only logical first step IMO.
  23. I figured I would have done better than I did. The names I should have remembered but didn't are: Izturis Jones, J. Orie Servais I guess forgetting names like that are how it's possible for me to stay a Cubs fan.
  24. Brenneman or however you spell it is comparing how much better, meaning-wise, it is in English to pronounce it "Angel" vs "on-hell."
