  1. I was watching in a sports bar today and had no sound (and after catching the youtube of Hawk, I'm glad) or close captioning, so I had no idea what was happening, but I fully expected to see the call go against the Cubs, and I could tell that Lou was getting ready to come out with his gasket blown clean off. And definite kudos to the umps for hashing it out. Even before I saw that the call would (or should) work out for the Cubs, I was glad to see how long they were spending figuring it out. I was even more surprised to get home and find out CB Bucknor was in the crew.
  2. The White Sox have lost 23 of their last 28 games. Worse than the 05' and 06' versions of our heros? That actually is starting to sound quite a bit like the way the Cubs bottomed out starting early-mid May last year. Impressive!
  3. This is a pretty vague statement to begin with. If "as of late" means this weekend, then yes, we just won three in a row. Against the White Sox. Stretch that definition out to the last seven days, and the record is still 4-2, but that includes a rather embarrassing series defeat at the hands of the worst record in baseball. Before that, we lost 2 of 3 against SD - one game saw our classy level-headed superstar get himself suspended for an unknown stretch down the road, and the other was BP for the Padres. The series win over Seattle was impressive baseball. Cubs are 3-4 vs Atlanta, a .500 team, this month, though there was some pretty hard jobbing from old blue that kept it from being 4-3, and they took the series from Milwaukee. So there's the month in a nutshell, 2 games over .500 after sweeping one of the few teams outside our division who actually has a worse record than we do. Yes, the Cubs have been playing better as of late - now they're playing like a middle of the pack team and not a bottom-barrel group of massive underachievers. They haven't done anything to convince me that this is going anywhere yet. But yes, they're one or two good deals and one or two good DFAs away from making themselves a step better, and that one step could be all it takes to make them compete for the division.
  4. Wow, this got close. Slugger making a run at the upset.
  5. Sweet. I was afraid of what I'd see when I got home today. Good way to start the weekend!!
  6. Man, if he's the one who pitched this game, I'd say we got the steal of the year!!
  7. I get jealous every time I see that another team has DFA'd someone. It's like watching other kids get candy for Halloween and then looking down at the rock in my bag.
  8. waiting for proof He won a WS? He signed Eckstein. Sign Jocketty and close the thread.
  9. The Bears video recaps, the Cubs sound page, the plethora of Cubs photoshops... scrubs is good and all, but anyone can like scrubs.
  10. In an effort to maintain the much-needed pessimism around here, I'm giving the credit to the crappy Texas pitching and not the stellar Cubs offense. I'm still jumping around my apartment like an idiot right now though.
  11. Scott Eyre's brother up in the pen for TX. Hopefully they share a few pitching traits. ANOTHER RUN!! 5-3 CUBS!!
  12. Keep em coming. I'm wonder when Ron will crack open the bottle of Scotch. I just got home and flipped on the radio - did you already get the update where he was complaining about how bad our offense is in light of how bad the opposing starting pitching was supposed to have been? I was glad to hear it out of him. Now that I'm finally listening and posting, they're doing well. Unfortunately, I'm only on lunch and have to get back soon, so I hope they can put together all six or seven runs now.
  13. Yea, I kinda thought that too. At least it's apparent to Sammy and everyone else that there were more Cubs fans making more noise for each of the first two games of the series. I'm glad he made it, and I'm glad Cubs fans were there.
  14. Yea, that was the first thing I thought too. Before the series started, I bet my best friend (Rangers fan) $20 that the Cubs would take the series. I wasn't thinking. My fault guys, sorry.
  15. I had to vote WSox, just because I gound myself getting toward the end of the list hoping it would be on there, but there is some surprisingly good competition on there. "R you in? Get it? It's like asking 'Are you in?', but our name begins with an 'R', so we just spelled the first word of the question that way, because it's pronounced the same, but now we get to use our--I mean, R--logo in there instead. It's clever."
  16. :?: Given that the 06 season ended halfway thru May, I'd say there's not much doubt there. From the beginning of the 05 season to present, I'd say that's still the top Cubs moment.
  17. Of course. Cubs will come back to within 1 run, so that we can all be good and pissed about the Sammy HR.
  18. It's as good a time as any for Sammy to hit it. I doubt this game had any chance of being close again, so Congrats to Sammy. I hope the Cubs take an ad out in a Texas paper to congratulate him, sorta like what Atl did for Maddux on his 300th, only do it well.
  19. Here's hoping the bullpen has another perfect game left in them.
  20. In all honesty, you're right... How could you even be content if you were a Ranger fan? Run scoring plays: Error by DeRosa GIDP Error by Lee RBI ground out obviously, they're up 4-0, but blech, what horrible ways to score. I'd pee myself if the Cubs could tie the game up by scoring in all the same ways.
  21. Terrible idea. It's why the Rangers are the worst team in baseball and not the Cubs. Cubs don't do that garbage, and it works out much better. o ok..i was just checkin...but that sounds about right The K-CS DP and that double by the Rangers were both flukes, btw. So are all the other times you ever see it work out.
  22. No HR. Cubs stink. Offense isn't here, Marquis can't find the plate, defense (including Lee) can't catch the ball.
