  1. That's really not funny. You need to be banned.
  2. I already blew the alibis I had saved up to play hookie and go to the day game in San Francisco last week, so skipping any more school in the near future would be pretty tough without doctor's orders (which I have also done in the last week). I don't know why I'm having trouble learning this language anyway...
  3. Playing hookie again, eh? No, that's really hard to get away with, but thanks to the modern "thought" that technology directly equates to better learning, and thanks to the fact that I am studying in the single worst curriculum this base has to offer, they have given us all tablet pc's and internet connections at our desks, so I will be listening to the game while the rest of the students in my class are listening to whatever the hell it is that the teachers told us to do today. Also, they think I'm typing in answer to my reading test right now. (I already finished that, I didn't just blow it off like I'll be doing to whatever we're doing next hour.)
  4. I'm just glad there's finally a day game. Gives me something to do other than what they're paying me for, because that's boring. (Doing my job is boring, not the getting paid part.)
  5. Not bad. Wouldn't mind seeing that lineup with Soriano instead of Monroe as our normal lineup. Kendall for Blanco obviously as well. I like that Jones is starting against a lefty again. An overall decent lineup (considering off days for Sori/Kendall), coupled with Wandy being unbelievably crappy on the road, is a recipe for a loss of craptacular fashion.
  6. Whatever works. It's a dirty, thankless job .................... If it results in a Cubs win, it would hardly be thankless.
  7. :roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll::roll:QFT
  8. In the eye-rolls rant a while back, we found that quotes strings can only be 30 quotes deep, and if it gets longer, the ones before that just disappear.
  9. Me too...sort of...Kids day care is closed today...I told the wife that if I "Had to" I'd stay home today... Mizzou...you gonna go watch Illinois whoop up on the tiggers tomorrow? Hah, yeah right. Like they stand a chance. I don't plan on going, but I might change my mind and head down to tailgate. Though after last night, I highly doubt it. You going? Just curious, but which team are you saying doesnt stand a chance? Illinois. I'm predicting a blowout. Mizzou is going to be solid this year. Want to put a wager on the game Mizzou? Premium up for grabs? Sure, I'm confident enough to bet on my team. What's the bet? Well the line is Mizzou by 4.5, and since you said you were expecting a blowout, how about this bet. Ill bet you U of I is within 10 points in the end. 6 months premium on the line? I'll bet 6 months worth of premium that we cover the spread. Well Ive found 2 different spreads Ive seen 4.5 and Ive seen 5.5. I just figured since you said you were expecting the blowout, you would feel safe giving me 10 points. Screw it, I'll take it. I'll wager 6 months of Premium that we beat you by at least 10 points. We're on. Alright deal. quote string!!
  10. I thought I heard Len & Bob say it was already planned for Murton to start tomorrow so Soriano could sit. I can't verify whether or not Len and Bob said it, but
  11. Forgive me for enjoying this one, college boy. Dear Cobs, Wandy Rodriguez sucks.
  12. I thought his fate was sealed with the Monroe trade. Pie should sent to Iowa if he's going to be relegated to pinch running and late inning defensive roles. Not going to happen with a day until september callups. Just win cobs! Your sig either needs to add a game to the Brewers' games out, unless it's already figuring a loss for tonight, in which case take a game away from the Cards'. I'm exceedingly skeptical of our chances tonight, so I think it'd be understandable either way.
  13. More importantly, the Cubs are still on target for that. Are they? Not only are the Cubs throwing a lefty at the Brewers, but they're doing the same to the Cubs. A rookie lefty with almost no big league experience, no less. If recent history has taught us anything, it's that the Cubs are just about a certain loss tonight, unless of course there are Cubs fans in Vegas who bet big money against them.
  14. There are five weeks left, and even if the Cubs lose they're still in first. However, with the Brewers being in second and having spent so much time in first, and this being the last game of the year against them, it's about as important of a game as it could possibly be at this time of year.
  15. I'm pretty sure I could hear you dropping F-bombs throughout the top of the seventh. I felt bad for you.
  16. Nope. Hard throwing, top prospect. Threw a perfect game in AAA this year too. Either he'll be gone by the end of the 4th or he's going to pitch a complete game in about 75 pitches.
  17. Z, if you're in the mood to throw you're first career no-hitter tonight, I wouldn't complain. For the love of Kent, please PLEASE win, Cobs.
  18. That sounds familiar. I began brainwashing..eh..."training" my kids at birth...My wife was born and raised here...but she's to the point where she'd rather the Cubs win because she knows I'm easier to live with when they do. <----- That was at 9 months. My wife corrected one of her friends that other day when they said "...so from April till September, you have to deal with the Cubs?" My wife said, "No, its a full year thing, but the season starts in February when pitchers and catchers report." Never been so turned on in my life. that's hot Indeed. I dated a girl once whose birthday fell on PCR day in 04, and every year since then, I wish her a happy PCR day and never bother acknowledging her birthday. I don't know why it didn't work out.
  19. I do it because I rarely get to watch the game, so having Pat and Ron and a game thread is a close second. On the rare occasion that I am watching the game, there aren't any other Cubs fans around, so it's nice to have people to watch the game 'with.' It was even better for my month of premium when I was ignoring all the people who make those threads so intolerable.
  20. I could very well be the only person within 45 miles of where I live who cares about any baseball team, so I shouldn't have much trouble commandeering a TV down at the sports bar tonight.
  21. Finally, someone came thru and predicted a Brew crew sweep. I was wondering how long it would take.
  22. It's one thing to be optimistic about Z coming around. It's reaching even more to be optimistc about our offense against Sheets. If you're going to take that a step further and be optimistic about the DisAstros' chances against the Cards, that's just crazy talk.
  23. You know...to a large extent I agree with this. If the Cubs were 4-5 games up they'd be the talk of the country...we'd start getting goat stories, and black cats run before every broad cast...if we can have the media all over the Cards while we still maintain the lead I think its better for us in the long run...the pressure will be big enough in the Playoffs, no reason to seek in right now too. Yea, I don't mind the Cards receiving the media attention either, but if the Cubs maintain their lead, they'll be getting their attention. In response to the original post, the Cubs were getting plenty of respect by the end of July. Plenty of power rankings had them as a top 8 team, with one even placing them at the 5 spot. They were a good team and people acknowledged it. They then proceeded to suck for two weeks, the magnitude of which still exceeds the success over the recent 8-10 games or so. The Cardinals were left for dead a while back, and they just passed the formerly 8.5 game leaders to move into second place. Yes, they deserve the attention. (I won't get into what else they deserve, though  )
  24. Lefty, no mlb experience, and his velocity is down. Sounds like he is a Cub killer for the next 10 years. He's currently listed as the probably opener for the series opener against Marshall. He'll solidify his major league career in 8 short innings.
  25. I was with you all the way up to the last sentence. How many balls does he have to misplay or just completely lose, and how bad does his arm have to be before his CF is no longer considered solid? I still haven't gotten everyone else's input on the opener in SF, but from where I was it looked like he was locked in on the ball, camped out underneath it, and waited until right before it hit the ground to realize how far off he was. He also had a stretch where losing the ball in was at least a weekly occurence. Regardless, your points about his abnormally crappy/hardcore first and second halves are good and valid points, and I agree that his offensive production overall is looking to level out where it was reasonable to hope it would. I'm glad for him and for the sanity of everyone here that his output has turned around the way it did.
