  1. He laid off it! BB to load for DeRo, whose babies I will have if he ties it up here.
  2. e worked the count full, which is a lot more than I thought he'd be able to do. Do something here!!
  3. Floyd almost fell over whiffing at that pitch.
  4. Not many teams make mistakes against us Not many Cubs ever make pitchers pay for their mistakes, which is why the mstakes go unnoticed.
  5. 33 pitches in the first inning. Exactly how many pitches Marquis needed for 3 innings yesterday.
  6. Having someone picked off at first usually results in an out. Sometimes homeruns are known as rally killers.
  7. Another BB. Rock on, Rich Hill. Rock on. :x
  8. Rich Hill makes a pickoff move to first, Wigginton takes off to second, and he makes it in safely.
  9. OT - Does someone have a link to highlights of the KW 20K game?
  10. They called a pretty blatant one in one of the Mets-Phillies games the other day. The Mets player interfered and it ended the ball game. But yeah, I agree. Some of these are getting ridiculous. I think I caught a clip of that passing a TV in a restaurant - wasn't it more of a dropkick than a slide? The second base end of a double play has always been the most unregulated part of the game, with the takeout slides and the whole 'vicinity of the bag' rule the umps call, rather than requiring the first end of the double play to actually touch the base while holding the ball. It's a really tough line to draw, much like coddling a quarterback and flagging every piece of concact for 15 yards vs feeding him to the wolves and making him fear for his life.
  11. To go in line with the Astros and Reds kicking Cub tail this month, I predict they both add to the insult by getting swept this weekend. Jerks.
  12. Today's HR was also only the second he's allowed in more than 50 IP It's easy to get caught up in the heart attacks, and people will always have players they like and dislike for no good reason. I was never big on Sammy dating back to his first season or two with the Cubs, and it took his ridiculous 01 season before he finally beat me into submission and made me a fan. Good post, and I agree he has been a sufficient closer this year.
  13. Looks like the Cubs have found it fit to force a change into one of this season's more successful and healthy rotations. I really don't know if it's more of a gamble short-term to start Trachsel or Marshall. I know that this season is all that matters, but with the two options, I think the fact that Marshall is young and has a future with this team should be enough to tip the scales in his favor. His last outing was rough, but the one before that was a more than solid outing against AZ, and he has been solid and successful all year. It may not be a bad idea to rest him a little, but it also isn't a bad gamble to stick with him. Sandy Koufax has experience too, and he'd probably sign for a lot cheaper. Something about not being broken and not requiring a fix...
  14. six of the Cubs first seven batters yesterday hit the ball on the screws. Wandy is so lucky. Oh great, now we're comparing our closer to Wandy. Is his ERA and Walks ratio as high as Dempster's? ERA is higher, BB ratio is better, HR ratio is much worse. I think the point of bringing up Wandy was to point out that plenty of pitchers get lucky. If he's going to keep succeeding and/or getting lucky at the rate he's been going, I'm perfectly happy not looking a gift horse in the mouth, even though I have no idea where that expression comes from.
  15. Marquis could be a fairly good pitcher if he wouldn't overthrow his pitches. Yea, he's had that habit when he gets into trouble. I think it's awesome that he gave up a run in the 2nd inning but only needed 7 pitches to get his three outs. It's hard to distribute the credit where it's due, but between Hendry picking him up (all pitching was way overpriced, so I'm only talking about player acquired, not size of contract), Rothschild working with him, and him executing to turn around from such a crappy season, there has been some good work there. He has proven to be a good pickup.
  16. Great outing by Marquis today. The rotation really needed a good start. It's also nice to see that it doesn't appear to be such a fluke when Marquis has a good start.
  17. Is App St supposed to be competent this year, or did they just play way over their heads for a big game? Or did Michigan just suck that badly? (never cared much about college sports, but have friends who went to app st)
  18. I definitely had a bad feeling going into this one. Had the power outage continued, Houston's two runs would have been enough. Dear people who are getting paid ridiculous money to put up power numbers which you have come nowhere close to achieving this year, Please continue to show up the rest of this month. October too.
  19. We've also had plenty of opposing starters achieve entire quality starts heavily based on the exact same brand of luck.
  20. My brother drunk dialed me the other night complaining about Dempster, so I sat down in front of the stats page (which he has never done) and made some observations for him. Demp is obviously not in the same class as any of the elite closers in baseball, nor will he ever be, and I'd like to punch him just one time for all the heart attacks he keeps giving us, but I think he's done a pretty acceptable job as closer and will make a good gap filler until the powers that be decide Marmol is ready for the job.
  21. Well the Cubs have scored more runs than their opponents. That's always fun. CUBS are 68-0 when they score more runs that their opponents! I don't know where you come up with some of this stuff, but it's incredible!!
  22. That word filter correction makes me smile. EDIT - meaning, the one that replaces whatever you said with I dropped the soap. I just typed f[apostrophe]n, I thought that was acceptable. u dropped the soap well done - i have no idea why, but that cracked me up pretty good.
