  1. I took the booing more as being pissed off that the game just went from a win to a loss than showing anything more than very temporary frustration with Demp.
  2. They get to play against the Cubs, and our $100 million team doesn't.
  3. PH, Sori, Riot in the 9th. Hopefully it will still only be a 2-run game. Come on, Demp!! :x
  4. That's just crazy talk. You're talking crazy, man. That's crazy.
  5. I fail to see how this is cool. [Joe Morgan]Because Jason Marquis has a better W-L percentage this year. That means he is a better pitcher.[/Joe Morgan]
  6. Don't forget consistency. It's all about the consistency.
  7. Right now, I'm more comfortable with Marquis pitching than with anyone else on this staff.
  8. I can't wait for the dodger fans out here to start prepping their brooms after this one.
  9. I understand that GIDP, whatever that stands for, is an important stat, and apparently the Cubs offense got one literally almost every chance they had. I think that 5 of these "GIDP" and still only scoring two runs is a sign that they were just unlucky, and that the runs will start to come around eventually. I agree, Trachsel did a pretty decent job today though.
  10. The Dodgers' lineup is not good. Hopefully we don't let them beat us by 8 runs again.
  11. hahahaha maybe a .000000000000001 chance. I doubt Lou is going to give the rook a start since this is Sept. We have to go with veterans who have been there and know how to play baseball in Sept ........ With Kendall being the clubhouse leader and proven winner whose been there and has the experience, it'll be really tough to play anyone instad of him. This injury could very well kill any hopes the cubs had for this season.
  12. 8-) Or five. I'm definitely pleasantly surprised that he had such a good and extended effective streak that he had to suck for five straight games before he brought it back up. Season's not over, so who knows, he could still end the year below 4.* *Couldn't come close to keeping a straight face there.
  13. Early in the thread, there was a synopsis of what Z said, and part of that included that he would remember this booing when things were good again. This sounds a lot like him saying that he's going to go out and pitch well, then make us all cheer and love him and make it feel like all this went away, and then he would spite us by still being bitter over the booing. Please, Z. Spite the living hell out of us.
  14. Definitely a big test coming up for the Cubs. I would rather the Cubs lose 11-3 than be on the losing end of a crusher like the Cubs gave the Astros Sunday. A manager has a lot more of an impact in times like this, and I think this will bode well for the Cubs. I think they will bounce back and fight pretty well this game. That Dodgers lineup isn't impressive, but Penny could be a problem. Cubs win 4-2.
  15. I agree he was wrong to say what he did but the booing is getting ridiculous. Z is a bit of a spoiled baby, but a lot of these fans are irrational. The team has a bad inning or a pitcher has a bad game and they are booing? It doesn't look like a knowledgeable fan base when they boo or throw stuff on the field whenever things go bad. The crowd reaction is like the way it is in game threads. Suicide alert whenever the Cubs are losing and cloud 9 when they are winning. 162 game seasons have high and low points and supporting your team seems a lot more constructive then booing them whenever they fail. Fans have a right to boo. They pay the salaries of the players. They boo'ed Z because he has sucked for over a month, not because he sucked today. It's Z's job to ignore the boos and do what is required of him. If he does that, the boos will turn to cheers. I know this booing argument has been done before so I don't want to beat that dead horse, but what are they booing? To me the reason I would ever boo a player that is on a team I root for is lack of effort. Does anyone doubt Z wants to win as much or more than anyone on that field or in the stands? If so, then is he getting booed because he is not good? Has there ever been a case of a bad player suddenly becoming good because he was booed and realized he should play well instead? Clearly Z has an issue with his mechanics or something else that is causing his effectiveness to drop. I think he gets that, but it would be nice for the fans to take the approach of "hey, we are behind you Z, we have faith that you get it together and help us win" instead of "you suck, you better do better next time or we will boo you and call you bad names". It just does not make sense to me. I think today's running the stop sign, in addition to his non-stop overthrowing and overswinging, is showing that he views himself as bigger than the rest of the team. I'll back off the grow up angle a bit, but the religious man could use a little humility.
  16. No one can push someone's buttons more than a sibling. When a sibling pisses you off, you call them out on it, you end up fighting in some way or another, and you either grow up in a dysfunctional household or you listen to your dad when he tells you to apologize, and you go back outside and play. I've never been down on Z for his antics/immaturity/whatever, but now it's clear - he needs to grow up.
  17. Earlier this season, when he was sucking, he got down on himself for pitching so badly, he came out, declared a new season, and came out and started smoking like we all know he can do. He has a rough start or two in August. The team is in a slide. A side note into this slide is Z's contract. He continues to suck. At the plate, he's overswinging as badly as he ever has. He's overthrowing pitches, missing spots by a mile, and now blowing stop signs and follows it up with what ranks among his worst starts of the season, even after three mildly decent innings to start. The fans boo him for the performance, and now he decides we're selfish. We weren't selfish for booing Jacque, we weren't selfish for booing LaTroy, but now that Z is stinking with a bad attitude (which, aside from Hundley, I haven't accused any Cubs of ever doing), the fans are suddenly selfish. Z also made several remarks prior to the signing saying that he was all about going after the money from a team that was willing to respect his talent enough to give him a bottom line that shows as much. Now that he has this contract, he can do no wrong in his eyes. Grow the hell up, Z, or go the way of Terrell Owens and Randy Moss.
  18. Meeting the gf's parents tonight and trying to watch the game and get the place ready. I think it's about time to go ahead and give up on this one. Good game, Z. See you guys tomorrow.
  19. And yes, booing him there was exactly what he deserved, and I wish it would have been louder and more forceful. When his attitude makes him bigger than the game and he single-handedly takes his team out of it, he needs to hear about it.
  20. Was that.... Did he just acknowledge the boos or give them the vick 1-finger wave?
  21. There is no curse. Only people who kill games by pressing too much.
