  1. It had OSU #12 going into the National Championship in '02. It had Miami #1. OSU finished #8.
  2. People don't hate Iowa because they are undefeated. It's because they play in a weak conference, are over-rated and play a sissy non-conference schedule . They should be ranked about #14. Florida, Alabama, Texas and USC would crush them and about 9 other good teams would beat them easily. It's amazing that for playing such a sissy non-conference schedule they still have the highest SOS of any of the undefeated teams. It wasn't brutal but at Iowa State and Arizona aren't garbage. Yes they play in a weak conference. So does everyone in the discussion. What conference is really good this year? The ACC? Big East? Big 12? The SEC is half of what it's hyped up to be. The Pac-10 is very solid this year.
  3. That sportscaster isn't going to be moving up from Lubbock, TX for quite a while. I'm with jersey on this argument. A playoff sounds great but anything beyond a +1 would kill the bowl system. I like the current system enough that I don't want it to go away just so we can get the top 8 in a playoff. December 26th until January 3rd (and then the championship) is awesome.
  4. I think it was the whole "no ACL" issue that scared most teams off, concerned about his longevity. Of course, I'd probably take 2-3 years of Blair over 10 years of most of the latter 60% of that draft, any day. yeah exactly. even if blair's shelf life is short and he lasts 5 years in the league, he'll be better than almost everyone drafted around him. i think a lot of people are going to be wondering how the hell blair lasted til the second round... actually a lot of people don't understand it already. Exactly. It was absurd that he fell that far. The bottom of the 1st into the 2nd round is full of a bunch of question marks, most of whom won't amount to anything more than just a guy. I miss all the time when projecting college players to the NBA but Blair is a historically great rebounder without character/work ethic flaws. It was such a slam dunk and no one but the freaking Spurs was smart enough to take advantage. Look at the NBA Draft thread. I was going out of my mind the entire time and had fools arguing with me that it was fair because of health issues. Hoping the Pistons would trade their extra 2nd to get into the lower 20's to grab him. Then they passed on him again at 35. Although it wouldn't have looked good for the front office when a 2nd rounder immediately produced better than Max and his contract. There are a lot of idiots calling the shots in the NBA. I was shocked OKC and Portland didn't pull the trigger.
  5. Just the one year? Eh, I'm fairly optimistic Iowa can be middle of the conference in '10-'11. Cole will be a senior, Gatens, Tucker and Fuller will be juniors, Payne, May and Cougill will be sophs and they have a pretty decent recruiting class coming in. Not amazing but Larson is a top 100 kid, McCabe had a bunch of nice offers and I think Brust could be a piece off the bench right away. I think they can make a run at the tournament next year.
  6. I was going bazerk during the draft that he kept falling. Leave it to the Spurs to once again grab a player in a spot well below his value. He and Dice are one of the main reasons I have them ahead of the Lakers. Pistons looked solid defensively tonight, unfortunately they were playing the Grizz. They'll be able to hang offensively, interior and defense is what will probably keep them under 45 wins. We'll see what they look like Friday night against imb's squad.
  7. College Basketball season is being postponed this year.
  8. In my mind they are the team to beat in the West. McDyess and Blair are going to be big help for them inside and Jefferson will fit in. If they stay relatively healthy I have them ahead of the Lakers. Spurs/Cavs final
  9. Adam Robinson is officially out, likely until bowl game and starting G Dace Richardson is the same. So we're down to two true freshman (one of whom has redshirted all year) and a former walk-on at RB. Good news is that starting safety Brett Greenwood is good to go.
  10. Iowa is #1 in the computers, so you have a good case What's haunting Iowa is the drop after the UNI game. They were 21 in the preseason. They dropped to 34 after that game. It wasn't until week 5 after beating PSU that they got back into the rankings. If they beat UNI by 24 but have a closer game against ISU or Arizona, they're ranked at least 6th in the human polls right now and probably have a good shot at 4. And if they were 4th in the human polls with #1 in the computers, they're ahead of Texas at 3rd in BCS and could be in the driver's seat. They beat ISU who is turning out to be decent 35-3 on the road and didn't rise. They were up 17 on a now ranked Arizona team until garbage time and didn't rise. If they would have needed a miracle finish at the end against either of those two they probably never would have dropped.
  11. And Oregon better win. I'm doubtful though. Go Oregon, Go Okie State. Iowa is ripe for an upset. Starting G and our best lineman this year is out until the bowl game. Starting FS is questionable. Starting RB is probably out as is what would have been our 3rd best RB. With Jewel out for the year we're down 3 of our top 4 backs. Our true freshman who has been playing all year has rib problems. So then it's the walk-on who was bad in the first game and hasn't played since and a true freshman who had been redshirting.
  12. Eh, unless you're Iowa you can't win all the close ones. They could be 7-1, but 5-3 is pretty much in line with how they've preformed against their schedule. I think there's a 10-15% chance they get 3 more wins to have a legitimate shot at the North, but just going to a bowl game would be a huge improvement over the last 3 years. I can't believe it. The North is atrocious this year but they're looking pretty salty. I'm just not sure what to make of this Big 12 North stuff. They don't have their last game at home on Thanksgiving weekend to let it slip away at the end.
  13. Iowa is 17.5 point favorites to Indiana next weekend. If you're a betting man I would feel pretty comfortable going with the Hoosiers. Iowa has been close to putting it all together at times and if they do they'll cover. I just would feel pretty good with 17 points in my pocket when they haven't played that well at home this year and have kept everything close.
  14. Well if sports broadcasters, and Tony Dungy says it, then its for sure true. Well the thing is, it's pretty much everyone saying the exact same thing. If that were called against the Bears you would had one of your profanity-laced tantrums. Instead you go with your trademark LOL like it's absurd to suggest it was a bad call. You are probably the least objective person on this board and that's saying something.
  15. By the way Keener did you happen to catch Football Night in America at all? They universally agreed it was a terrible call and should never have been called. Anyways, Dungy called it a "phantom" penalty. Imagine that
  16. The Bears/Bengals game keeps getting better although now they're probably going to stop throwing. Up to 173 points
  17. What's it like being a meatball football fan? Seriously, it is one game. You can't fire a coach for one bad game. there is a multi-year resume of bad Lovie has been fairly successful for an NFL head coach with zero QB stability/consistency.
  18. Like 6:30. On Fox after the late NFL game.
  19. This Bengals/Bears game is awesome. Two of my fantasy starters have combined for 51 points in the first half and the Bears are getting thoroughly embarrassed.
  20. This is the first time I've made a post about my fantasy team and probably the last but I have to do it. 12 team league and I was 2-4 going into today. Currently I have: Palmer- 23 points Maroney- 10 Steven Jackson- 14 Sidney Rice- 19 Steve Smith NYG- Yet to play Ocho- 17 Vernon Davis- 31 Kris Brown- 8 Jets D- 23 145 with over a half to go for Palmer, Ocho and the Jets D, plus a full game for Steve Smith.
  21. Yeah I don't think there's any chance they jump an undefeated Texas though.
  22. Meh we were due to lose a game anyways but damn that sucks when we had two chances in the red zone in the 4th quarter and got 0 points. Favre played really good, our defense played really good outside of the 2 minute drive to end the half. O-line held up pretty well against the blitzes. I rarely ever complain about officiating but it's just annoying how the Steelers get these calls every week regardless of who they're playing with.
  23. Weren't you just making fun of other posters in another thread literally 3 minutes ago for using penalties as an excuse? THAT'S DIFFERENT Keener is incapable of being reasonable with fans of his team's rivals. It's quite sad actually. keener and reason do not mix
