  1. What's the beef against Boise? Just rooting for the underdog and don't think Boise deserves to be ranked in the top 10. They had one good win against Oregon to start the season and haven't played a good team since. It's a tough spot for Boise though. What do they have to do to be highly ranked if they go by your criteria? What good team would want to play Boise State? Major conference teams don't gain anything from it...and they stand to potentially lose a lot. They really need to get out of that conference. I don't blame them for non-conference scheduling. We all know the situation there. I just don't like the idea of someone playing 1 legit team at home and then 2 mediocre teams to go along with 9 patsies and being given a top 5 spot.
  2. Don't let Northwestern do it.
  3. It's not good when it's a near lock that the basketball team will get fewer wins in 18 games this year than the football team in 8. Well I guess it is good for football at least.
  4. Am I the only one who doesn't see this amazing speed he's supposed to have? Everyone claimed he ran a legit, electronically timed 4.4 40 coming out of high school. He's an effective runner for a QB but he's kind of lumbering. I'm not sure he's the athlete he's made out to be.
  5. Rollie [expletive] Massimino is still coaching? At least Isiah only lost to the best NAIA team money can buy.
  6. I would be the same way if he had gone to the Bears and they were 7-1 with him playing well. I got over my disdain for him pretty quickly this year though. At least unless he gets hurt and tries to play (badly) through it and the season goes down the drain.
  7. No sounds like he's good to go.
  8. sorry about your loss to Northwestern I would say there's no way they could lose to Northwestern, but the Cats beat IU... And we've had Iowa's number the past few years. Iowa has really played down to the level of their competition in a few games this season. Homer prediction: If Kafka and PickManis are healthy, NU will make it interesting. That's not a homer prediction that's a logical prediction. The last 2 weeks I kept thinking "This is the week our offense will put it all together and break out." Still waiting. Hopefully they got the insane turnover game out of their system though. Northwestern has had some fortune against Iowa that hopefully will run out but I'm not sure how that counters with Iowa's luck this year and how all that counters with the SI jinx.

  11. Great timing for the bye. Another week to get Winfield healthy and then you have to win coming out of it against the Lions at home. After all the discussion and speculation about Favre all offseason it's worth pointing out his numbers halfway through the year: 106 QB rating, 68% completion percentage, 1,925 yards (241 per game), 7.52 per attempt, 16 TD, 3 INT. Tied for 1st in TD's, 4th in the league in QB rating and completion percentage, 10th in YPA, near top of the league in INT percentage. I don't see any way the Vikings win the one loss he has and he's probably won at least 2, maybe 3 that I don't think they win without him. He's going to regress in the second half of the year. Need to cut back on his attempts in a couple of these weaker games and hope you can rest him the last game of the year.
  12. There's just no way they can be allowed to win the Big Ten again this year. Beat them this week and make sure of that.
  13. Sack totals in the two Vikings/Packers games this year: Vikings 14 Packers 0 Again thanks to Dom Capers for making Aaron Kampman just another guy. Brian Robison completely changed that game with the fumble on the squib. We're up 24-6 with the ball on the 40. The crowd was booing them and we had all the mo. Then that play flipped it and our defense forgot how to tackle. Rodgers got locked in. Thankfully Percy and the offense rescued it. 7-1 going into the bye with the Lions and Seahawks at home. Should be 9-1 or at least 8-2. Basically a 3.5 game lead on the Packers and 2.5 on the Bears. Secondary is a major weakness, especially without Winfield. Brees would have a big day against us right now.
  14. Good call
  15. Very true. They could really use a clean, big win against Northwestern. Not expecting it though. My only thing is that when a name brand school has a win like yesterday, most of the reaction is that they woke up, made plays when they had to and put it away.
  16. He has the tools. I'm just holding out hope that the feedback he gets is he isn't going to be as high as he possibly could have been because of the lack of healthy play he has on tape. Amari Spievey at CB is probably gone from what I've heard though. Kiper has him as the #3 CB this year and he's apparently set to leave if he's a 2nd round pick or better.
  17. Why, you want to watch us beat down your conference again? :D First of all, who is this "us" you referred to? Do you play for Iowa? If not, you can drop the "us". Second of all, Iowa did not beat the SEC in their Bowl Game last season. They did not play the SEC. They beat South Carolina. So do you plan on calling out everyone on the board every time they use "us" or "we" to refer to the Cubs or any other team? Please. Your second sentence is just stupid. You know what he and everyone else meant.
  18. Like with all stats there are splits and advanced adjustments made to it but it still leaves you scratching your head sometimes. See Kevin Durant
  19. The team's scoring margin when a player is on the court. If the game is tied when a player comes in and 5 minutes later he's subbed out with his team trailing by 6, he's -6 during that segment. It's then totaled up for the game and season. Not perfect but has the right goals.
  20. Ohio State goes because of the head to head. I'm not even sure if the "longest time since" rule exists anymore. Correct. If OSU wins out they go to the Rose Bowl. If Iowa wins out they go to the Rose Bowl or National Championship. Penn State needs to win out and have Iowa lose twice. Iowa goes if they win the two home games and OSU loses once.
  21. Beat the piss out of OSU next week. As impressive as Oregon was tonight, I've got a feeling they get tripped up again this year.
  22. What's funny is I think last years team might have been better than this one. They were just more unlucky. This year's defense is better in my opinion. Last year's o-line and running game were better. WR/TE are better this year. QB is just more uneven. Special teams are better this year.
  23. It had OSU #12 going into the National Championship in '02. It had Miami #1. OSU finished #8. the predictor was probably right; miami gained a lot more yards that game but lost because they turned the ball over 5 times. they were a better team than ohio st but picked a bad night to not hang onto the ball. Oh I know and I love Sagarin. Just a reference point for the predictor in a BCS championship game when it appeared to be a big margin. In '02 I believed all year (and still kind of believe) that Iowa was a superior team to OSU. OSU kept scumming out close wins and got a lot of breaks along the way. Iowa isn't as talented as that team (then again no one is as talented as that Miami team) but there are a lot of similarities. Unreal play in Minnesota/MSU game.
  24. The usual Big Ten sucks, Iowa sucks is the same so not much point in arguing it. But you better hold the Big 12 against Texas and wonder why Florida/Alabama haven't been that impressive against bad SEC teams in a year where the SEC isn't good outside of the top two. I remember 2003 when Iowa was going to get outclassed by Florida and their athletes in a bowl game. They stomped Florida. I remember 2004 when Iowa lucked out a bunch of close wins and was going to get stomped by LSU in the Cap One Bowl. They beat LSU. I remember 2005 when Iowa didn't belong in the Outback Bowl and lost by one score thanks in part to a terrible call that gave Chris Spielman a heart attack. Then in '06 Iowa was going to get destroyed by Texas and Colt in a bowl game. Lost by one score. Then in '08 when the rest of the Big Ten was getting beat, Iowa destroyed a team from the almighty superior SEC in the Outback Bowl. You can say you don't believe Iowa is a top 2-3 team. But they're 9-0. Whatever bowl game they're in, they will keep it close because of their defense and their coaching. And if you said last year Iowa had no business at the top and would get destroyed, I might have agreed with you. But in case you haven't noticed, no one is really very good this year. Oregon may be the best team in the country right now but hosed themselves in week 1.
  25. Stanzi was bad for 3 quarters today but the 2 deep ball picks to DJK were killed by the wind. He probably should have either not thrown that far into the wind or adjusted, but that was the main culprit. For all his criticisms he's been very good with the deep ball today. Our defense is legit and would keep us in any game with anybody. In the bowl game when we have Robinson and Dace back, I'd like to think our offense can at least give us a chance.
