  1. suicide? That would be like fifth or sixth on my list of guesses. My first guess with a successful young athlete dying under mysterious circumstances would be drugs. well it's not a successful one, it's a guy that's been a disappointment in two different cities. I figure car accidents have to be number 1, with gun violence, suicide and drugs rounding out the top of the list for young people. When I heard the news getting stuff before the Vikings game that was my initial thought. When they didn't say it was an accident or some kind of crime scene, suicide or drugs come to mind immediately. Rough deal, I loved him coming out of Clemson. Never heard of him being in trouble or really anything negative besides being a bust. The jokes will be easy to come by for others.
  2. The playoffs thus far have sucked. I really don't see the Vikings/Cowboys turning into a blowout either way though. I guess it's possible Favre has a meltdown game along with a key fumble or two by AP but I don't see it.
  3. Even though I like Tice, it's not that simple. The running game in Minnesota excelled when he had Robert Smith running behind 3 Pro Bowlers with a defense that was loosened up due to Moss and Carter. When he was head coach it didn't excel consistently at all. He's been TE coach in Jax where they've had great running backs.
  4. Big Ten win motherfuckers. Battle is a stud and I love watching him play. But what happened down the stretch today was the exact same thing that happened last year. He just drives to the lane and gets a call no matter what when it's crunch time. The rest of their team looked much worse than last year though.
  5. I laughed when he called him the Paris Hilton of football.
  6. What makes you say he was so/so? He had a great o-line in 2000 after losing two starters, one of whom was a Hall of Famer and the other, a Pro Bowler. It was Stringer's best (and last) year so he still had a legit stud but he also helped get Birk to the Pro Bowl in his first season as a starter. I can't argue that it will be a HUGE upgrade. I think the Bears o-line problems were due to being old and bad more so than coaching. Tice also had a lot of talent on his lines in Minnesota, but they were still consistently a top-tier unit.
  7. I never knew of him as an OL coach, but rather a tight ends coach or head coach, so I don't know what his rep is there. But at least it's an actual NFL coach. As I said he was a good OL coach for the Vikings for about 5 years. Some of it was that he had a really good line to begin with, but they stayed fairly consistent when McDaniel and Steussie left. Because of that his legend grew into "we've gotta keep that O-line coach around" pretty universally. That allowed McCombs to go on the super cheap without fan revolt. I think it would be a good hire. Obviously he had 4 Pro Bowlers (at least 3 first round picks) in Minnesota who were fairly established before he got there, but they maintained at a pretty high level.
  8. I hope to god they are only considering him for OL coach Actually I hope he's more of an assistant TE coach. I think this team needs a real OL coach, and Tice isn't even really that. Tice was an outstanding OL coach for the Vikings before being named head coach. I don't know that he'd be successful as an OC, but he would let Cutler air it out downfield.
  9. I know, right? Who wants to see stuff where people compete based on time or other tangible factors. I'd much rather see a panel of judges score the participants arbitrarily. Basically, if it's not a race or curling, it's a waste of time. Which is like 80% of the Winter games. Which is why you don't watch those events. Hockey, curling, speed skating, bobsled, luge and many ski events rule.
  10. I just hate the option. It's so dull and unimaginative. I can see that but when only a few teams are running it, I love it. I think what a lot of the "spread" teams are doing is really dull and unimaginative. Georgia Tech's offense (outside of the Iowa game) is really explosive against some good teams. I'll admit I didn't watch a lot of GT football this year, but in the bowl game I was looking forward to seeing what they were doing that was so special. After watching it, I came away wondering what the big deal was. The problem with bowl games for the option is you get a month to prepare for it. Good coaching can catch up to that given enough time. GT's lost both bowl games since Johnson arrived, one was a rout and this year wasn't that close either. You also saw what Navy and Air Force did in their bowl games against superior talent. Tech's problem was that Iowa's front 7 was one of the best in the country this year AND they're a disciplined, well coached defense. Football Outsiders numbers ranked Iowa's defense 2nd in the country to Alabama. They also faced a great LSU defense in their bowl game last year.
  11. Exactly. That was the standard answer when Nebraska had some semi-down years and any form of the option disappeared.

  13. I'd love to see if the triple option would work in the SEC. With the right talent, I think it would. It can work anywhere with the right personnel. It's worked very well in the ACC and GT fans insist that the current o-line is not a good fit. No one else runs it so you get the same advantages that versions of the spread had when less talented teams were the only ones running it. The "defenses" got too fast argument is bunk. I just hate seeing so many damn teams going shotgun with 4-5 wide and throwing bubble screens and 3 yard hitches all game.
  14. I was hoping Calhoun would get the job and keep the same offense. Anyone that doesn't run a variation of the spread is good with me. Someone who rightfully believes you can still run a version of the triple option as the backbone of your offense is great. Paul Johnson is the man. Cutcliffe always seemed like a really good guy who got the shaft at Ole Miss.
  15. Not sure if this has been posted yet: http://www.theonion.com/content/news/everyone_at_hospital_already_hates
  16. The Rich Brooks one killed me.
  17. Is this affiliated with footballcoachscoop? Because that thing was a joke. Yeah Meph could have sent them that "scoop" and they would post it. Tennessee fans are worrying way too much about this year's recruiting class. It's one year. You're looking long-term. Get the right hire, who cares if you have one down year because recruiting got messed up.
  18. Iowa State against UNI. I watched that game.
  19. That sucks.
  20. it comes from this song. Stuart Scott even did the "yaw yaw" thing once on Sportscenter. and if you've never heard Orgeron talk, here is his Hummer commercial Thanks. Yeah I knew he sounded like a gruff meathead, just didn't know why the "yaw yaw yaw" was so universal.
  21. Can someone explain to a non-SEC guy what the "Yaw yaw yaw" thing is about with Orgeron? Is it just because he sounds like a meathead?
  22. I'm the only Vikings fan here and have spent way too many hours looking at mock draft's over the last 10 years.
  23. The Cowboys were the one team out of the DAL/GB/ARI combination I didn't want to play next week. Oh well. I guess it's still a home playoff game against a Wade Phillips' coached team.
  24. ? They've been splitting carries. Greene has 108 carries this year for 540 yards. He's a better runner than Jones.
  25. Tom Hammond, Joe Gibbs, Joe Theisman. Direct quote from Joe Gibbs: "That was the Bears defense that nobody likes sitting at home going 'Hey look my son's running my defense' but that time they hit it hard." Okay...
