  1. The Pace/Faulk lines really aren't much worse than his assessment of Bruce. And Proehl already had 6 years with 55+ receptions averaging 786 yards. He wasn't just a slow white guy. His ego is just ridiculous. I already posted that the Martz hire is worth a shot given the Bears situation. But in STL he inherited Hall of Famers at WR, LT and RB which kind of helps. What he'll have with the Bears is closer to what he inherited with the 49ers or Lions.
  2. Holy [expletive], now I've seen it all. A coach who was just hired is speaking positively about the players he'll be coaching. Seriously though the WR stuff is such exaggeration. Bruce was the 33rd overall pick who had a 119 reception season with 1,781 yards and 13 TD's. He followed that up with another 1,300 yard season before Martz arrived and was already a Pro Bowler. But yeah he was just too skinny and I'm sure they were pissed about what he did in his first 3 years. He was a fricking stud already. Ricky Proehl was an established veteran who had his best seasons before Martz arrived. Oh and adding the #6 overall pick in Holt his first year didn't hurt things either.
  3. Having 3 former NFL head coaches as assistants has to be a record doesn't it?
  4. I also hate it for the reasons that have already been spelled out in this thread.
  5. Like many others, I think this is a high-risk, high-reward move. Though the long-term risk isn't that high because if it doesn't work there's a good chance that everything is blown up for 2011. You guys have read and researched Martz more than I have. Making such a major schematic change into a very complex offense with mostly young WR's (who reportedly struggled to pick up Turner's stuff) seems like it would be difficult to me. Having an offense that's so based in downfield passing seems like it will be difficult to pull off with such a weak offensive line. Given the way Martz tries to break down QB's and build them up in his mold seems like it could have some lasting effects on Cutler if it doesn't work out and he has to start over again in 2011 for the 4th time in 4 years. Martz also doesn't like to roll out his QB's much which seems to play against Cutler's strengths. On the flip side it may be worth taking the risk that he gets the most out of Cutler. If so, you probably win 10 games and have another 3+ years of Lovie.
  6. I cannot imagine what the Iowa/Illinois games would have been like if Pearl had been hired. Of course it was never going to happen but...
  7. Time to start playing for John Wall.
  8. It's certainly defendable but I think I'm fouling in that situation with a 5 second differential.
  9. It's super loud in there but Kansas State has to have the dumbest/most annoying fans in the country. They explode after every call against them even the blatantly obvious ones. Wow Collins gets the bucket, misses the free throw to give them a chance and they Aldrich steals it. Heck of a game.
  10. Atrocious defense by Duke. Georgetown shot 72% from the field. They were 78% from 2 and 46% from 3. Also 74% from the FT line and all of those numbers went down in the last couple of minutes. That's efficiency.
  11. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtLWJwLNBic The Hawks are huge in Korea.
  12. Which is the only reason I can think of that caused the ref not to throw it on the low shot. He was reluctant to flag two roughing the passer's on one drive especially if he saw the INT first. I agree that the first call was weak. I think the non-call was a bigger [expletive] up than the call he made though.
  13. I still cannot believe they missed that. Sharper told some Vikings that their gameplan was to take every possible shot on Favre and if they got flagged a couple of times, so be it. They felt like he's a different QB when he's beat up so they were willing to suffer the consequences. It worked I guess but if that flag had been thrown it obviously would have changed the game.
  14. Well Iowa played a really solid game for 35 minutes. Looked to me like fatigue got the best of them at the end. Weren't closing out on shooters and getting loose balls like they were for most of the game. At least this team is getting better and there is some legitimate hope for the future if everyone sticks around which is the key. Eric May has been way ahead of my expectations. Held Turner to 10 points on 13 shots until he got breakaway dunks in the last minute after keeping Battle in check a week ago.
  15. And Seattle has a player that likely will be a first-round NBA draft pick. i didn't even know there was a seattle university. I seriously considered going to graduate school there.
  16. They also had crappy QBs. Crappy because they're just crappy? Or crappy because they were never developed? I don't think I want to find out. Pass on this guy plz. Crappy because they are crappy, and they stayed that way because they weren't developed. I don't want him either. Jackson was like a 50% passed in 1-AA and drafted way too early. He was 61% his senior year. Not that it really changes your point though. Tarvaris was a developmental guy with all the physical skills whom they rushed. He actually had decent numbers in the '08 season. One of the complaints of Rogers/Bevell/Childress was that they didn't address his mechanical flaws by the end of year 3. I don't necessarily put the blame on them. Most of his mistakes came from throwing flat-footed along with some bad decisions.
  17. Well that's surprising to me.
  18. I've been watching Downey for 3 years and he always reminds me of a poor man's Allen Iverson. He dominates the ball, he's smaller than everyone on the court by a few inches, he's not terribly efficient usually but he's so much fun to watch. He gets to spots he has no business in and knocks down crazy ill-advised shots.
  19. They've never blocked any assistants from a chance at a promotion but I think they might here simply because it's the Bears and they don't want someone who they think can improve Cutler. Rogers was McNabb's QB coach/coordinator at Syracuse then worked for Davie at Notre Dame for a few years and was at Virginia Tech when Childress hired him. He thought he was a really good developmental QB coach. Chilly thought they could mold Tarvaris into another McNabb based on how Rogers coached him in college and what Childress did with the Eagles. The only non-journeyman he had in Minnesota were Jackson with mixed results and now Favre where he probably didn't do much.
  20. That was due to Brees, the design of the Saints passing game, and what the opposing defenses did. The Saints brought 6 quite a bit while I don't think the Vikings ever did. The Saints were blitzing in most passing downs and Favre was getting rid of it in time, but not quick enough to avoid the hit. The Vikings only rushed four almost all game. If you watch the replay, he was getting hurried. It was the reason the Saints didn't go downfield more. He was getting rid of it quick and didn't have time to go deep. Allen never got to him but he was pushing Bushrod back in the pocket all day. If you blitz against Manning he will pick you apart. You can hurry him but he's almost impossible to get to and usually makes the right decision on time. So what they're probably getting at is the Vikings could have dropped 7 in coverage and he wouldn't have had all day to scan. If the Saints rush 4 he'll have all day and if they blitz he'll get rid of it quicker than Favre did.
  21. It's not inexplicable at all. Your skill players were loose with the football, and it cost you a game you should have won. The blame should be easy to place. I'm not talking about blame. The Vikings beat themselves and have themselves to blame. It's that this team took care of the ball all year and suddenly it became contagious. They were at the top of the league in turnovers. They never had a game with more than 2 turnovers all year. None of them were great plays by the Saints. It was total carelessness by a team that wasn't careless in 17 games. And despite it all they still were there to win the game until a 12 man on the field penalty which they didn't have once this year. And they still would have had a 45 yard field goal but the QB with the lowest INT% in the league made an epic blunder.
  22. No playoff team has ever lost when outgaining their opponent by 200 yards or more. They more than doubled them up on first downs. They had almost a quarter's worth of time of possession advantage in overtime. They ran over 30 more plays and averaged more than a yard per play than the Saints did. They forced 7 three and outs and the two second half td drives totaled 44 yards. They dominated the game so badly that they were -3 turnover margin on the road and still were in the driver's seat to win at the end of regulation. But they're the Vikings so they had to lose. I still can't figure out if this was more painful than the '98 game. The '98 team was better and at home so the loss was more shocking but the Falcons shut us down most of the second half. This was inexplicable. I'm still [expletive] sick.
  23. I keep telling myself I'm not going to watch but I know I will. I did in '98 and the Saints aren't as annoying as those [expletive] Dirty Birds. As far as the game I have a hard time thinking the Colts won't put up 28+. The Vikings owned the time of possession, sustained drives and still averaged 1 yard per play more than the Saints despite playing on the road and Favre getting killed. Peyton isn't going to get hit as often. The Saints obviously have a knack for creating turnovers but yesterday was more about just being completely careless with the ball. The Colts pass defense is definitely better than the Vikings and we still forced 7 three and outs yesterday. Then again the Saints should be able to run the ball pretty well. I can't believe we pissed that game away.
