  1. Mariucci says his ankle isn't 100% but he hasn't decided anything yet and Favre never told teammates that he was retiring.
  2. Nah, unlike the Jets everyone loved him last year. . Except ya know, his coach. Well, that's Brad Childress. He's miserable.
  3. Any of you Illinois guys know about Macari Brooks? Apparently his coach tweeted that he's going to Iowa. '11 guard with offers from Marquette, DePaul, Providence.
  4. Nah, unlike the Jets everyone loved him last year. I really don't think they care a bit if he comes back 2 weeks before the season this year.
  5. You sure? Ah we'll see. It's just really weird right now that Childress and a bunch of players are saying they've talked to him in the last 24 hours and he didn't say anything about it. Longwell is one of his best friends and he said he talked to him today and he didn't say he was retired. I'm not sure who he sent this text to because none of the beat reporters, national guys, teammates or coaches seem to know anything about it. And if it really just said "This is it" couldn't that mean "this is the last run"? Hopefully he just got hammered on his ranch last night and started drunk texting.
  6. Just stay healthy through camp. The Vikings return all 22 starters with only 5 of them on the wrong side of 30. Better depth everywhere except o-line and a potential decline at backup RB. Just stay healthy.
  7. The Jets are just so boom or bust this year.
  8. In case anyone didn't hear: -Delaney said they expect to have the divisional alignments within 30-45 days. Didn't rule out anything with the divisions and repeated what he's said before. Said they'll use data similar to the way the basketball selection committee does. They'll mainly focus on data since 1993. -They will have a championship game next year as expected. The site will be announced this fall but it may just be a one-year location so they can take more time to focus on a long-term arrangement. -He wants to have a 9 game conference schedule within 2-4 years which I think is good overall but could have some problems.
  9. Yeah I don't know about this paragraph: Theriot offers defensive value at a small cost at the plate but DeWitt does not? Or this one: I don't know about the declaration that he can't hit well enough to play every day at second. At least in his prime. As far as not being a great prospect he was at least a first round pick and was ranked #82 by BA in '06.
  10. it hurts niemi more than anyone. someone may give him the 2.75 per for a couple of years he's looking for, but he could stay in chicago for a couple at the 2 we were offering, post a GAA in the low 2's with a .915-.920 SP, then sign somewhere for big money and fade away like he inevitably will. Agreed but I think Niemi can be productive in the right situation. If he and his agent are smart he shouldn't disappear. Bowman has handled this offseason as well as he possibly could have in my opinion.
  11. Accepting a felon with open arms so he can enroll in your "Parks and Rec" grad program. Giving him punishment for two arrests within 5 months and being an absolute idiot other than praising him for coming to help you win games. You're right, he is a terrific fit at Ole Miss and in the SEC.
  12. Don't think DeWitt has a little more projectability? I don't see much in his history to suggest it. He only turns 25 in a couple weeks, but at the same time he never was real young for his MiLB levels, and the only time he hit enough to suggest more projection was in Vegas(1.273 OPS home, .697 away). To be a bit more hopeful, he isn't a bad player, and at his age maybe a different organization can help him break out as he enters his prime. I just think that probability is a lot lower than I would've liked for what we gave up. To me, the deal centers on Wallach. If he can breakout in a similar fashion to Archer, and if DeWitt doesn't fall off the face of the earth, then it's a pretty decent deal. Didn't know about the home/road splits. His overall numbers in that age 22 season look nifty.
  13. except younger and cheaper, with the added bonus of 2 halfway decent pitchers. congrats2hendry And better with more upside.
  14. Joel Sherman says it's done but doesn't mention the other players coming back.
  15. Jon Heyman claimed that the Cubs offered Z for Ollie Perez straight up (no mention of the Cubs throwing in any money). The Mets wanted the Cubs to take Castilo back. Perez has only one year left on his contract at $12M.
  16. So I guess we would just get Johnson to then think it gave us an advantage to re-sign him? Or we could offer arbitration. If he's available for that cheap I'm surprised the White Sox or another contender didn't jump on it.
  17. In '07 as a 21 year old he had an .804 OPS repeating high A for 83 games, and .772 for 45 games in AA. They started him in AAA for the next year and he had an. 852 OPS in only 111 AB's and then had a .264/.344/.383 line in 368 AB's for LA. .775 OPS in AAA last year for 352 AB's while getting hardly any time with the Dodgers. .726 OPS this year. He'll be 25 next year so there's still room for improvement. I have no idea how his defense is but if it's plus, he could project as a cheap fill-in at 2B for a few years hopefully until Lee is ready.
