  1. This is going to be a very long, ugly weekend.
  2. At the pace the Cubs on are, we will get through the entire list of game thread starters three times by mid-September.
  3. Thanks, I thought it might be but was too lazy to look it up.
  4. Mike Murphy on the Score was talking a few minutes ago that George Offman has learned Corey Patterson will be recalled from Iowa for Tuesday's game against the Reds. No word on who's being sent down or DFA's (Hollandsworth? ).
  5. Pathetic. At least, there's another national game of the week next Sunday night against the Cards to get embarassed again.
  6. Tim Johnson is the coach of the Lincoln Salt Dogs of the Northern League http://www.northernleague.com/pagebank/?id=683
  7. Didn't he get in trouble for something he said? I thought I remember him being fired for something other than performance. No, that was the manager that succeeded him. Tim Johnson, succeeded Gatson and was fired because he lied about being a Vietnam veteran. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/list/lies.html I know Johnson was coaching in the Northern League during the 2004 season. He was the coach for a buddy of mine.
  8. There are some many reasons why not. He is a very bad baseball player. Here's his line for the 2005 season. .212/.248/.285/.533 I think that line says enough. The very fact that the Cubs are interested shows that Grissom's numbers are not bad enough to discourage Hendry. Simon's and Neifi's season numbers were also terrible when they were acquired. Good point. I feel the Cubs shouldn't sign him but I could really see Grissom wearing blue pin stripes in a week. Hendry seems to enjoy finding reclamation projects.

  10. Here's a little nugget from our favorite Cub's beat writer, Bruce Miles. This is something that I've been harping on all year. Why does Dusty insist on playing Burnitz every single game. I understand he's the starting right fielder, but I think it would benefit both the team and Burnitz if got an occasional day off. He's not exactly a spring chicken anymore, trotting him out there 155 games this season is foolish. Besides, he's not that good anyway. He's numbers have been average. Here's hoping to seeing Burnitz get a day off today or at least within the next few days. Ah, who am I kidding.
  11. I'm really despise a lot of Cub fans.
  12. I'm not doubting what you're saying but wasn't this the common conception last off season too?
  13. Unfortunately, they aren't even playing .500 ball right now. That's how bad its gotten.
  14. I agree completely. If we thought he didn't see the field when Nomar wasn't on the roster, we haven't seen anything yet. I can't see any situations where Cedeno would start. Nomar will start 5 out of 7 games and Neifi will spell him the other two, just like Saturday's day game after night game. The only times Ronnie will see any chances will be as a pinch hitter and I can't imagine Dusty would use him in a big spot. Holla will finally return to his rightful spot as a pinch hitter. Now that Macias is following in the footsteps of Willie Mays by starting in CF everyday, he won't be able to pinch hit anymore. Poor Ronnie will have to fit with Murton to see who will be the last man off the bench.
  15. Is it too early to declare the Carlos Beltran FA signing a bust? .269/.319/.438/.757
  16. I really can't believe Dusty's continuously using Macias in CF. I understand for a game to give him some AB's but he's continuously trotting out this horrible lineup. Move Burnitz to CF and put some combination of Lawton/Murton/and even Hollandsworth in LF/RF.
  17. I can see it already, Grissom gets plugged into CF and plays nearly every day the rest of the way. He manages to hit around .270 and plays average defense. This offseason, he's signed to a one year contract to serve as a back up OF. He'll miraculously find his way into the starting lineup in '06 for no good reason.
  18. Please don't lose this series to the Mets, I don't think Ronnie will be able to handle it.
  19. Yeah, here is a thought. Keeping your "criticism muted" is wimp talk for not admitting you didn't have the sack to voice your concerns when things were going well. Your assent to moderator is an abomination. Hilarious. Is this blowback from the Goony comparison? :D BTW, JC, you owe me $4 for dry cleaning. When I read this I spit up diet coke on my shirt. :P Where is goony?
  20. Wow, what an ending to a very disappointing stint with the Cubs. I, along with many Cub fans, was very excited that Remlinger was signed as a FA heading into '03. I think its fair to say that he was a huge bust and never came close to performing to the amount of money that he was being paid. Hopefully Williamson can give the bullpen a solid arm in the 8th inning and move Novoa back to the 7th inning spot.
  21. He would be my choice. Thirded. Fourthed. Bring that little guy up!!! Yah, lets bring up a guy who hits 270 in AA...lol. I agree, its a good move to bring up a guy with .389 OBP and .818 OPS.
  22. "oh ya, and PS - Ryne Sandberg stinks." I don't know about Kerry Woods, but I know Kerry Wood has a no-trade clause.
