  1. Todd Walker for starting 2B in 2006. He's cheap and good. Who's with me? Cedeno starting at SS, Neifi unfortunately getting too many AB's, and investing all that meant set aside for Furcal for CF/RF.
  2. Hendry now has his work cut out for him. What's Nomar number again?
  3. How is that a "promising new article"? The majority of its speculation and the rest of it re-hashing what's already been discussed on here all day today.
  4. I like him b/c his first name is Trot. Agreed. He sounds like an adult film star.
  5. Pay for me to have a year of premium...or else, I'll make Dunn threads when and if I see fit. BTW, are you going to change your name now that Nomar is nomore? or your avatar?
  6. I like Nixon because he carries his hat in his back pocket while he bats.
  7. Len Kasper is damn funny. I wish he would do another Q & A here, so I can ask him the hard hitting questions.
  8. If many of these Phillies rumor are true, Abreu could be available for a lot less than many of us had originally thought. There's no reason the Cubs couldn't put together a deal with the surplus of pitching available in the form of a combo of Williams/Pinto/Hill. Abreu is definitely the impact type batter the Cubs need to patrol RF in '06-'07.
  9. If Ronny comes near this line next year, the Cubs will be in great shape will him at either at 2B or SS.
  10. Bowden is the GM of the Nationals. I know there are some people here at NSBB that can do at least an equally crappy job he has done.
  11. If its a Cedeno/Perez platoon at SS in '06, its clear how that will unfold. Cedeno will play vs. LH pitchers, Perez will play the vast majority of the games against RH pitchers (especially with the RH dominated NL Central, Cedeno will rot on the bench). I really do like the idea of retaining Walker to play 2B especially now that Castillo has been moved out of Florida and Furcal is still in limbo. Now only if Dusty would finally realize that Walker is so much more valuable in the 1-2 spots in the order, not "protecting" the heart of the order by hitting 6th.
  12. Agree'd. Why trade MAX VALUE for MAX VALUE. Especially when you are trading a well loved Cubs player (the fans and team loves him). . If Derrick got 5/60 (12 a year) he is worth that and I want him hear for 5 more years. do you really think he'll ever be worth close to 12 million in a year? even assuming he's the best 1b glove in the leagur, which he's not? If Furcal is worth $10-$13 million per year, then Derrick is worth $17 million. If Lee's expecting 17 million a year, I'd let him walk. There's no way I'd pay him that much.
  13. That's great insight and analysis, Diffusion.
  14. There is absolutely no excuse whatsoever if Kerry Wood is not in the starting rotation on Opening Day. I'm baffled that the Cubs are already dropping subtle hints that Wood's rehab is progressing but he might not be ready. Give me a break.
  15. Dave Kaplan on SportsCentral on WGN said he's learned the Dodgers have upped their bid to 12 million/3-4 years. Take it for what its worth.
  16. I know the Bears are good and I know the Packers are really bad, but I still am very apprehensive about this game. I don't envision the Bears really putting any teams away this season. Almost all of the games won during the current win streak have been at least relatively close. I envision the samething on Sunday. Brett Favre always scares me but I'm looking for the Bears to win 14-6. I'll also be at the game freezing my behind off.
  17. In the continuing battle of the Chicago sports radio baseball reporters, George Ofman said today that there was no chance Soriano would be on the Cubs next year.
  18. They'll move kent to first, and Walker will play second. As for Konerko, I don't think the Dodgers would be interested. They already had Konerko once, I don't think they'd go after him again.
  19. I agree, but I will say that swapping him for Bradley is probably one of the few Walker trades I could live with. I'd love to have Bradley in CF next year, and if that's who Hendry gets for Walker so be it. I share some poster's hope that Bradley wouldn't cost quite so much, and that Hendry wasn't so intent to get rid of Walker. But given the fact that Hendry now views defense the way he viewed team chemistry last year, a Walker for Bradley swap seems to be about the best outcome we could hope for. Seconded. I was expecting less. Me too. Lowered expectations are depressing. I can live with a Walker for Bradley if that's how it all unfolds.
  20. On this pace they Cubs are gonna carry 14 pitchers next year.
  21. It makes me mad the Cubs are so hellbent on trading Todd Walker. He provides unbelievable offensive production at a ridiculously low price tag. Yes, his defense is not good, but I think he's offensive output outweighs that.
