    so we are determining Hill's fate on 3 ML starts? And Williams' fate on what 7 Cub Starts? Remember Williams started late this season and is really just hitting "May" for him. Hill was rushed this season and still has solid stuff. First fans want to see the young players brought to the Majors and play. Then they judge them on less then a month's worth of work. Everyone at my place of business gets a 90 day probabtion. Poor comparison maybe but still, to write off a player based on such a little display of talen twould be a mistake too. Besides, it hasn't actually been as bad as it may be percieved. Williams has had 5 QS out of 9 starts. Hill hasn't been shelled as bad as his stats would indicated (his HR allowed was his real drawback in the minors this year). I guess I am still the eternal optimist.

    We mock them because we care. It's like what Ike said to Tina Turner, "I hit you because I love you, baby." No offense but please NEVER compare ranting about a team to physical abuse. Domestic issues are NOT something that is good comedy.

    I'm sorry, I realize that many here are disappointed with the team and disappointed with current results and current managerial direction, but isn't there a line that you don't wnat to cross as a fan? For example, I watched Major League 2 (I Know) but the Randy Quaid character seems very similar to many people here. Lifelong fans who give up and start to heckle everything that happens around the Cubs. He came to realize that this wasn't the right attitude (mind you the winning helped) but it leads me to think what would it take for everyone here to turn around the attitudes.

    well Apparently it is being reported (by Levine) that Remmy is headed to Boston for a minor league pitcher. Also the 40 Man roster on Cubs.com still has 41 people listed. How long can it be that way? When will we discover who was outrighted?

    Portland is a perfect place for a baseball team. If anyone has ever been or lived in Portland it would be able to support a team and be similar to a situation where a team can grow as the population grows. Imagine a waterfront (Columbia/Willamette River) Ballpark (Nike Field?) and with the plentiful corporations nearby there would be plenty of corporate sponserships. Move the Diamondbacks into the AL West and put Portland in that Slot and it would give natural interleague rivilaries to Seattle to give that interest and it would develop a strong rivarly to SF during the regualr season.

    Davey had a very odd stop in LA. He got roasted beyond belief in LA and got sent out by Malone in the Fox fiasco. He really hasn't been on anyone's radar in the last couple of years.

    Wow! I will definitely take this bet. LAA has Cabrera for 4 years and even if he continues to suck this bad next season they also have Aybar and Brandon Wood waiting in the wings. Signing Nomar just wouldn't make ANY sense. Not to mention they also have Macier Izturis who actually hasn't been half bad. One of the few bright spots this year (and last) in LAD town is Caesar Izturis. To dump him for a guy who has been injured that last 2 years and is in decline would not make any sense. Besides Caesar is still cheap and this matters to the ownership (McCourts are tettering close to Clipper-land) and won't be overly expensive until 2007. Then they would sign Nomar.

    I doubt that the Cubs are playoff bound too but I also still enjoy listening to "Vubs Baseball is on the air". I guess I am one of those odd people that just likes the game and couldn't care if the team wins or loses (although OF COURSE i would rather see them win).

    Why can't we just enjoy the fact that baseball is being played and not be concerned with anything else? The team we all love is playing the game we all love. Just keep it simple.

    now this hurts...i've been driving the hill bandwagon since before this board even had bandwagons! Whoops. You know I sat in front of the computer for 5 minutes trying to remember everyone.     does he think any other team was going to give varitek the contract he got? yeah right, ramon. he won't get close to 4/40. I think that they are banking on the fact that large market teams are is desparate need of a catcher (LA,NY) and will overpay. It wouldn't suprise me to see a 4/32.

    not to try and attempt to re-hijack the thread but after spending this season near San Diego and hearing Hernandez all season, he is DEFINATELY another Diva. This guy was just quoted in the paper saying that he had to have surgery on his hand now rather then in the offseason (like reccomended) so that he could get a better FA contract. Nothing like giving up on a 1st place team and a run at the playoffs in order for you to secure a better FA contract. This guys is a joke and has lost all the respect of his teammates. He is a whiner and and all "me" person. And the reason why he has yet to sign an exstenion with SD yet? Cause he wants Varitek money. You really think Hernandez is worth 7 million per year more then Barrett? Not me.

    Aren't we missing the 2nd half of those transactions? Who came off the 40 man roster? Wouldn't we need to creat room for Nomar & Williamson?
