  1. I don't think that you can call Hill "Overhyped". Honestly, besides O_O, Raisin, Serena, Raw, DJaxx, Tinkers & Brian and the rest of the minor league game thread bunch know about Hill Before this season? For pete's sake, He pitched in high A ball last season. This is an example of rushing a prospect with a hot hand. Hill has the stuff, he just needs to master it. He mastered his stuf in the minors this year, given time he might be able to harness in MLB. But to the point of this thread, if we overvalued him by NOT trading him at the deadline then who would we have traded him for? Who would we have replaced him with? If anything, it probably would have been smarter to trade Rusch who would have had more value because the majority of "contenders" who want to add a player at the deadline are looking for "impact" veterans. Not many in the playoff race would want to add a 25 year old starter with (at the time) 1 start under their belt. If we traded him for our benefit of an impact player then who would you have gotten? Who was out there and available for Hill? Seeing as how we landed the highest impact player that was traded at the deadline, i wouldn't complain too hard. Now if I were an Angel fan and seeing the A's coming hard and seeing my 4th & 5th starters being rookies, then I would be mildy upset.
  2. I just saw on ESPN's bottom line that Williams has a .345 BAA lefties this year. Ouch.
  3. I think I see some similarities in '06 & '89. Why not go for broke and have an OF of Murton/Patterson/Pie and an INF of AR, Cedeno, Fonetnot & Lee? Rotation of Prior, Z, Williams, Wood & Hill. Pen of Dempster, Williamson, Wuertz, Pinto, Ohman & Aardsma? How bad could that team really do?
  4. errr...if the prospects are not currently on the 40 man roster, they don't have to be subjected to waivers. Didn't I just read that> Or did i miscomprhend that in my 2 hours of sleep in 48 hours doldrums.
  5. referencing the earlier posts regarding Lawton and his contract situation, If Henry decides to offer arbitration or resigns him, isn't there such a rule that there is a maxium percentage paycut he can take?
  6. How many games has Lawton played in CF in his career?
  7. anyone else think that Maddux may retire at season's end?
  8. Haha that is pathetic! Maybe it would be best for the Cubs to get a Double-A affiliate closer to Chicago, where people would support the team more. Closer to chicago? Heck no! Take advantage of the Cubs nation wide follwing and move them to the west coast. That way they have a warm weather AA affilate for those people coming back from injuries during Spring. That and I could watch them 8) I say Palm Springs would be a good place.
  9. Wow. Its in the 8th and this is the shortest game thread ever it seems.
  10. There's the second deal I was looking for. Acquiring Torrealba made no sense considering they had Olivo. I can't believe I called this one! There is a first, although I did say that SD would make sense for Olivo but then backed off cause they had just gotten Ross. Oh well I was on the right track
  11. Oops, I posted in the trade thread which probably needs to be merged, but I do agree that the deal is skewed in favor for the Mariners. Make you wonder though about Olivo or Torrealba getting packed with another player (Moyer?). SD has talked about Moyer for awhile and needs a catcher, but with Park and Ross there now it probably is too late. Does LA make sense? Olivo & Ibanez for a couple of pitching prospects like Houlton and Jackson?
  12. seems like a lot to give up for Winn. Essentially similar to our deal for Hawkins. Foppert is a guy who can be good when healthy (was the guy who they didn't want to trade to Baltimore a few years ago in the Ponson deal) and Torrealba is an excellent catcher who will grow into a solid veteran once given playing time. Good Trade for the Mariners.
  13. again (for what seems like the millionth time) :hail:
  14. WHat a great play by Lee. VERY hard to keep your concentration. Too bad the camera wasn't pointed on hi at the time. Talk about baseball in your living room.
  15. WOW...Cintron was not EVEN close to that last one
  16. Whats interesting is that typically Dusty puts a solid hitter in the 8th hole. Obviously with Barrett and now Murton. Only Blanco is the real 8th hitter that isn't solid, but that is changing since the move to #24.
  17. I like Bobby Brownlie's chances as a reliever.
  18. You'll be happy to know that Renyel Pinto wears 2 BELIEVE bracelets! Darn! I tried to add that to my Sig but it kept saying "invalid session". I will have to try again later.
  19. You'll be happy to know that Renyel Pinto wears 2 BELIEVE bracelets! HAHAHA, that's awesome. Tell him to throw more strikes plz. :D I believe that Renyel was planning on getting on NSBB, so you may have already told him. Talk about being put in your place :D
  20. and you have grossly misspelled Sopranos. The Sapranos sounds like a cousin to the new showtime series "weeds"
  21. no offense but that is simply horrible poll options. To not have arrested development, 24, the shield, Veronica Mars, or Cubs Baseball is a huge oversite. I think "other" will run away with this poll.
  22. Mr. Greenberg, Thanks for joining us here at NSBB. You are a favorite of mine and someone I look for in the boxes ever since you spoke about doing what the big club needed in order to make it (on MLB.com). It was great to see you make the jump to the big leagues and see it sincerely mean something to you. I think all of us here at NSBB are grateful that you are OK after your 1st AB for the Cubs. Can you give us an update on how you feel and what it is like in the batters box for you now? Also, one of the things that has endeared you to many fans is your "gamer" like mentality. You seem to have a ton of energy and leave it all on the field. How would you describe your brand of play and what does it feel like to be recognized now? Sorry for being long winded. Like I said, you are a favorite of mine and a player that is easy to root for (which is hard to find nowadays). Keep it up and good luck!
