  1. The harder you hit it the less time fielders have to react on it and make a play. That’s the goal. Hitting a 90+ mph fastball is not like miniature golf where you can just aim your ball at holes.
  2. You’re probably right, but he’s also blocked and you’d throw in less prospect capital. His versatility would be the biggest loss out of anything, not his corner outfield bat with future uncertainty there. Skubal is the best pitcher on the planet and would make the Cubs more than a ‘get in and anything can happen’ WS contender. Joe Ryan doesn’t move the needle to the same degree, in a season with a number of starters off the books and an infield that isn’t getting any younger. I’d hate to see him in Milwaukee or anywhere else in the NL instead . Not my first choice, depends on the market.
  3. Skubal is the type of rental pitcher you consider trading Shaw for. Wiggins too.
  4. Depends a lot on Caleb’s progress but having Jacksonville, Philly, Tampa and New England at home softens the schedule a bit. It’s possible but I’d take the under on 12 wins too.
  5. They were also on the lucky side of batted ball data in the first month. They have very similar expected stats in both April and May yet vastly different results. That’s just baseball and the law of averages.
  6. From march-April in 31 games: 8th in xWOBA at 331, 2nd in wOBA at 348 and a 123 wRC+. May though 19 games: 10th in xWOBA at 325, 24th in wOBA at 297 and an 89 wRC+. That tracks.
  7. That’s true. Hopefully Bregman’s injured toe is a catalyst for extra at bats for Shaw, because I’d feel a lot better about Bregman’s lack of slug If it’s as simple as an unhealed injury.
  8. The bulk of his at bats came during Suzuki’s IL stint and about a week or so before Seiya moved out of the DH spot. He’s averaging about 1.5 PAs per game and won’t see 300 PAs at the current pace. If he has a future in the organization then putting him lineup against left handed starting pitchers is probably in everyone’s best interest, especially if it means no Suzuki in right field.
  9. Freeman and Busch had roughly the same wRC+ in 2025. Difference is Freeman had 37 more plate appearances and was in the everyday lineup against lefties. Busch’s value is diminished when Justin Turner is splitting time at 1st base with him. Not quite a wash. Run sequencing is why elite middle of the order bats are inportant. If we had 6 months of Suzuki during his first month coming off the IL, then these prolonged slumps and issues with driving in runners in scoring position wouldn’t be as volatile. So they’re either a Skubal away who can pick up an offense that refuses to score more than 3 runs during these cold spells or consistent run scoring on a week to week basis.
  10. Humiliating. 5 years into Jed’s rebuild and this is as close to the finishing touches on the team that he built as it gets. I really hope they got the suck out of their system and can go back to being watchable. Maybe give a Shaw a start in right field next time there’s a lefty on the mound, for no other reason then to not have him rot on the bench.
  11. https://startkyleorton.substack.com/p/caleb-and-the-terrible-horrible-no?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=ndzck&triedRedirect=true Great deep dive into Caleb’s performance.
  12. Just go ahead and roll over to these pieces of maggot horsefeathers that knocked you out the playoffs. Why not. Are they point shaving?
  13. How do we know it was Counsell holding Milwaukee back and not David Stearns?
  14. Who didn’t see the catchers interference by a lace would lead to an inside the park error home run. Awful week for PCA.
  15. It would be nice if for once the pitching staff picked up the offense if they refuse to score more than 3 runs again.
  16. Easier said than done but it sure would be nice if we had a guy who could capitalize on these run scoring opportunities for all 6 months to help with sequencing. The offense on the aggregate is right around where we expect and going through a stabilization period. The only way they’d maintain that 5.5 run/game pace was if Happ, Nico and Suzuki sustained their career high OPS paces. The extreme streakiness still persists. Same for starting pitching. It’d be nice if he had a guy who could’ve shut down the brewers for a 3-2 win on Monday. If winning 84-90 wins is the goal here than we have the guys to do it. My worry is the lack of any significant positive regression from the staff.
  17. It wasn’t even a gamble. He had a career 118 wRC+ at the time of the signing as a multiple time gold glove winner with over 25 fWAR. No one saw his suck coming.
  18. The only slump proof part of the roster is defense, which is what got Swanson, PCA and Nico $100+ million deals, and the value they provide has limitations when you have a pitching staff that’s allowed more home runs than all but 2 teams. We don’t have any arms who can pick up slumping offense either. If Shota was that guy then that 9-3 loss on Monday becomes a 3-2 win.
