  1. What a strange time to bring in a lefty. Why not just walk Happ to get to PCA?
  2. Same reason James wood is leading off the Nationals. More at bats for your best hitters. That’s the logic.
  3. .7 of Busch’s 3.5 wins last year were compiled in both of Mikolas’s starts against the Cubs.
  4. Bichette got 3/$126 with an opt out after the season, mainly for his offensive ceiling. You might not like the length of the deal but in no way is this an overpay. A decade ago, sure.
  5. Because more times on base means more run scoring opportunities. The hitter who goes 4/4 with 4 singles would have a slightly higher wOBA than the hitter who goes 2/4 with a home run and a double despite the same OPS. Intuitively it makes sense from a team success standpoint. It’s similar to passer rating vs ANY/A in football.
  6. Despite PCAs OPS being nearly 30 points higher. That’s one of the biggest gaps in wOBA to OPS I’ve ever seen. Nico’s wOBA was actually 1 point higher too.
  7. I’m not optimistic or pessimistic. I don’t know horsefeathers. That’s why I come here to ask questions. All I see is a an infielder who sits in the 60 of most prospect rankings and that’s the extent of my knowledge. I prefer this over reading twitter posts projecting a 2030 cubs lineup of long, ballesteros, Shaw, Rojas, Alcantara, PCA Busch and some random second baseman.
  8. Do they trade Rojas or is he Swanson’s contingency plan? Do they trade Shaw or audition him in the outfield and slide Nico over to SS and put him at second base when Swanson walks?
  9. Correct. If this means they go out and sign Skubal next winter, (I doubt it), package Shaw and or Rojas who’ll be blocked until 2030 for a corner outfield bat, or believe Shaw can develop into a 4 war outfielder, great.
  10. What does having 3 early-mid 30’s infielders under contract in 2029, the teams highest paid players ATM, say about their faith in Shaw/Rojas and by extension their player development?
  11. I can’t believe they’ve scored 4 runs with weak ass contact all game. They haven’t barreled anything.
  12. It’s a miracle they even have 3 runs with so much weak contact.
  13. Which horsefeathers end of the Kingery, Conforto and Carlson twig stinks the least?
  14. Cassie would’ve spent opening day in Iowa along with Alcantara where he isn’t blocked and rotting on the bench. Shaw learning how to play the outfield is a practical way to maximize his plate appearances. I don’t think they’re throwing darts at a board
  15. Correct. If he ever does figure it out then it’s a good bet it’ll happen before he turns 30.
  16. Every right handed in house platoon option at 1st base is a reverse split guy outside of Kelly. Has Kelly taken reps at 1st base?
  17. Im not sure how a 32 YO, slower PCA with bad plate discipline and declining bat speed will age either. We have him locked up for his entire peak.
  18. 88-94. Swapping Bregman with near replacement level production from third base should be enough to offset the loss of Tucker. .
  19. I’m surprised he didn’t bet on himself. I hope he wins a few MVPs and regrets it.
