    99% of Busch’s regression will be because Miles Mikolas is no longer on the Cardinals.

    It’d be great if Brown improves his command and can become a viable replacement for Keller.

    Bregman has more career homers and a higher OPS away from Houston and Boston. His OPS was 114 points higher away from Fenway. He’s not the type of the hitter than benefits from short dimensions on his pull side like Peredes or Bellinger.

    87 grade for a B+.Jed did about as good as we realistically thought. Jed made a big statement signing Bregman too in the manner that he did so he gets credit there. He took no half measures with the bullpen, (ensured that it won’t suck at least) added more upside to the rotation by trading for Cabrera. This is the most well rounded and complete cubs team on paper since 2018??? It does seem like this teams super high floor is way too close to its ceiling with the lack of any true high end talent. Can’t give the offseason an A with Tucker walking either. Shotas QO horsefeathered up their payroll flexibility too. They have enough high AAV safe pitchers. I’m intrigued by a rotation with a healthy Cabrera, Horton and Steele. That’s basically their ticket to a deep playoff run. Shota, Taillon and Rae are nice insurance options for $48 million but that’s $48 million that wasn’t used on Tucker or Devin Williams or cease. Etc on the flip side they’ll keep our fragile arms fresh for September/October and allow them to skip starts. That’s an elite backend rotation though and I Like our chances vs anyone in a best of 15 playoff series.

    Bellestaros lacks positional flexibility so I’m guessing Jed likes his higher contact rate relative to Cassie and they’ll give him reps at catcher where his bat will be very useful.

    Since outfield is a bigger question mark after 2026, was Cassie moved simply because that’s who Miami requested or because of, and or a combination of the Cubs prioritizing players who can make consistent contact? Cassie strikes out a ton so I’m curious if Jed had a preference for Bellestaros the entire time.

    There has to come a point where the bears draft their own talent in the trenches. I don’t like coughing up $35 million that can be used on free agents and extensions +3 draft picks AKA cheap players for an injured edge. We haven’t drafted horsefeathers since Tommie Harris and that’s not a big surprise when Leonard Floyd was your only 1st round pick since Harris used on the DL. I wouldn’t mind McDonald as a run stopper. Dexter is effective and only effective when Billings is out there eating up space. If Hendrickson is available I’d rather go that route too.

    What’s the catch? The Rockies, Nationals or or any number of teams couldn’t find a ML roster spot for an above replacement level outfielder coming off a 115 wRC+?

    I disagree. I don’t think anyone would blame the Cubs falling short of expectations on failing to sign a mediocre starter like Giolitto, who may or not be any better than Collin Rae.

    Fadeaway, over the shoulder half court trick shots while being triple teamed would be his game if he works on the his fundamentals..

    Burden was the top graded rookie receiver by PFF, Loveland was the top graded rookie in the NFL. Burden was also third in the NFL among receivers in yards per route run behind only JSN and Puka. Kind of amazing to think that rome and DJ might become their third and fourth options. Caleb had a surplus of help.

    After his suspension what happened was his Dodgers teammates didn’t want him back on the team because he’s a pain in the ass to deal with and was disliked. Now he’s washed up, Back in 21-23? teams decided he wasn’t worth the clubhouse headache no matter how much he had left in the tank. His conduct issues go all the way back to college.

    There’s no really where anyone coughs up a third for a quarterback who hasn’t started a game in 27+ months.

    Outside of injuries and Swanson, Bergman and Happs age which may or may not slow them down, the lineup for the first time in years has no real holes and an actual bench unlike 25. People think I’m a pessimist for my knee jerk reactions in the heat of the moment but I think this team is capable of winning the World Series. I didn’t have that sense last year.

    Does the Cubs pre season hype match 2018? I’m optimistic and more than last season with the rotation upgrades and potential to miss bats. Cubs are also unique in the sense that they don’t strike out often with such a high pull rate and a very ground ball rate.

    I think he can slowly work his way in with spot starts here and there and as others have mentioned, the implementation of ABS will make his job easier in the future. I’d rather he get reps at DH than a veteran off the street.

    He’ll probably be catching during spring trading too. You can still give Bellestaros scheduled days behind the plate for a pitcher of choice. Preferably a lefty. I just don’t see any big advantage in signing Tauchman.

    Alcantara needs more opportunities to audition himself as part of the teams future. Tauchman will stall his development. Why has he gone this long without signing?

    It’s an effective pitch. It looks like a sinker and his sinker has some arm side run like a 2 seamer. The radar gun checks out. They all look like a variations of fastballs. One of them is a changeup in principle because of his grip. Not a big deal. Fun time to watch MLB pitching.

    How deceptive can Cabreras 94 mph changeup be when it’s within a few mph of his average fastball velocity?

    I’m glad Jed doubled on addressing the bullpen and the bench in the offseason. No more in season try outs in both the bullpen and the bench, figuring horsefeathers out on the fly.

    Would they lose picks for going over the first line of the LT? They’d have to go over either way because dumping Tailon won’t offset Gallens AAV and they’re right on the line.

    Yes. I’m ambivalent about Gallen at best. So if the front office feels it’s a good trade off then I’ll trust their judgement no matter how unlikely. The 2023 version of Gallen is worth a second round pick if there’s a scenario where they feel they can unlock something in him in my opinion.

    It shouldn’t be Gallen with 2 guaranteed years of control or bust. If the pitching lab feels he’s a mechanical tweak away from turning back the clock then you sign him to a deal on his terms to make the rotation better.
