I assume the Marlins will ask for less for Cabrera assuming they’re not selling low on Alcantara? -
Only pitchers available are MOR arms who won’t quite move the needle like a true TOR stopper who can miss bats and win you that needed game. A MOR arm would certainly help, but an Alex Bregman would move the needle ans much as anyone on the trading block. This team will have to slug their way to a pennant and rely on defense and a rotation that can keep in the park at an acceptable level and let the defense make plays. The most glaring hole is third base and turning a weakness into a strength on a lineup that scores at a high runs/game clip, albeit sporadically would be a huge addition

Sort of, the Dodgers and Phillies have flaws too, the defending World Series champions and the Phillies who lost in 6 to Houston a few years back with the same core. If they get the benefit of the doubt then no reason the cubs shouldn’t either,

The one thing we’ve been able to count on all year long is the offense slapping around a number 5 right handed starter, the Twins have flipped that upside down the last couple nights.

The pitching staff will be exposed badly without flawless defense like we’ve seen today especially with the amount of contact given up.

Is Festa on the trade block? He must be good since he’s mowing down the cubs lineup. This team needs a dog in the rotation badly.

That’s a lot of intoxicants to take all at once over a weeknight cubs game. I’ll wait until the 5th inning at least.

It’s only 11 innings in but the cubs have been Remarkably consistent this year, they’ll take 2/3 3/3 3/4 from the bad teams, slap around their bottom of the rotation starters and get blanked by their TOR starters, generally. So far they’ve bucked that trend badly.

They’re first in position player bWAR at 26.2, Dodgers are in second place at 21.7. Meanwhile, despite being 14th in team ERA they’re 24th pitching with a 4 bWAR, which makes perfect sense when you adjust for park factors and PCA turning doubles in the gap into routine fly outs and Nico being an acrobat at 2nd base, They’re on pace to jump the 2019 Astros at 44.9 bWAR but it’s obvious a bit early to start bWAR watching. Only third in position player fWAR however.

Baserunning and team defense encompass all of it, not just offense. But they’ve impressive for sure.
