  1. according to Stone's book, "Where's Harry," just about all of the "stupid old man" routines were planned out by harry. I think he even planned out how they'd do the "steve's ceeegar is awful" bit. Harry new that the product on the field would never sell. . . .
  2. My agent is starting a nasty rumor that I'm gonig to hold-out for more money. I deserve at least three times what I made last season. Pimpin' aint easy, yo!
  3. if steroids didn't help, players wouldn't use them.
  4. I can attest to Vance's talents --- the guy has a knack for the autograph. I don't have many autographs. I have 2 Sandbergs-- one of which I got at the Albany airport following HOF weekend. The other is a 1985 Donruss 5x7 Diamond King. I have an 88 Score Andre Dawson Signed. I have a couple Frank Thomas Cards signed. I just repainted my den and have started adding miscellaneous baseball cards and baseball photos on the walls. Maybe I should take some pics for you guys. . . . . . who else has a Jody Davis card displayed in their home? I do :D
  5. i'm in there like swimwear
  6. rob deer couldn't hit .230 in a beer softball league.
  7. The run wouldn't count, would it?
  8. Italy, of course.
  9. the pics of Demp in a Captain America costume were priceless as well. Dempster is the Matt Stairs of pitchers. . . . .only more talented.
  10. Nomar's mexican and I'm an arrogant jack ass. I don't have a thing against Nomar. I just don't understand some of these guys who were born in the good ol' USA but have decided to play for another country. I just find it odd that two guys --- Nomar and Piazza -- have chosen foreign teams. Neither of those guys would have been chosen to play for the USA. I'd be hacked if I were the guy on Mexico or Italy's team that has to sit because of these guys.
  11. Anyone know what the lowest hit total for a HOFer is? If McGwire gets in, he's bound to be close. He has something like 1646 hits. That is amazing. That and the fact that almost 1 of every 3 hits went over the fence.
  12. just another case of "i'm not good enough to play for the USA but I still wanna play in the WBC."
  13. Did anyone take a pic of the sign at the front door of the hotel? It reads: "Free buffet for cheering Baker and Hendry!!!!!"
  14. the 62 mets should be pissed about this.
  15. I still can't believe Mac had only 1600 hits. 1 of 3 hits went over the fence. Mac aside, Andre is a HOFer.
  16. For the record, I'm a guy who can hit cleanup, hit lots of homers, drive in tons of runs, and help any ML team.
  17. this might have been in another thread, but did any of you catch Corey's comment in the ESPN.com article? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2285777 "I'm a guy who can get on base, and if I can steal bases and get into scoring position, that would really help the team," Patterson said. huh? what?
  18. he had 3 or 4 GW homers that i recall. I enjoyed watching him tear it up in '03. I was so pissed when he got injured that year.
  19. the "gr" is silent.
  20. how about rob deere's entire career?
  21. 94) more solidified bench with the addition of Mabry (and subtraction of Macias) 93) More PT for Murton 92) A real lead off hitter in Pierre
  22. I understand that I'm very much in the minority here, and I'm sure many of you will enjoy ripping this post to threads, but it's cool. To me, the HoF is about the fans. Who else on the face of the earth gives a flying fart whether or not XYZ player is in the museum? Why do I care? Because I plan on going back to Cooperstown (I went last season for ryno). When I pay thousands of dollars for room, food, tickets, etc; I want to see the baseball heros of my youth. I imagine most people are the same way. Now, don't get me wrong, some of the coolest stuff is the baseball stuff from the late 1800s - early 1900s, but for my money I want my guys. I want the Mantles, Mays, and Sniders of my day --- Sandberg, Dawson, Rice, Sutter, Gossage, etc. I want to walk my son through the hall of fame, see an item of Andre's and tell my son about those days of opening cards in front of tube, watching the Hawk jack eye high fast balls out onto waveland, crush game tying grandslams against the buccos, and throw beebees from RF to nail would be run scorers. There was not a finer ball player in the late 70s to late 80s (save for Michael Jack Schmidt). I don't think Dawson will ever get voted in, but I surely hope it happens and I'll watch attentively each year during the HoF induction results.
  23. what the crap does the nfl draft know about sabrmetrics? ;)
  24. I hated him when he played, but always realized he was an awesome player. I gave him a resounding YES vote.
