  1. The cubs had a nice post AS Break collapse in 85, 87, and 88. I know there were more, but those 3 come to mind right off the bat.
  2. The Montreal Expos of Washington, D.C.
  3. Kirk Gibson never made an all star team. I think he might be the only guy to win an MVP but never make an all star team during his career.
  4. up til last season he was a .270 / 30 / 90 kind of player. 10-12 million sounds a little more fair than 15 million.
  5. is there going to be any kind of back drop behind the new bleachers? Maybe something that stands high enough they could display large, retired numbers.
  6. Where would you put Sandberg's?
  7. does Milo Hamilton have a restaraunt? I didn't think so.
  8. vance, you should go for one of those fancy black leather cub hats. it'll go great in the sweltering summer heat you and I get to experience down here :D
  9. after this season (or next), the WBC will be on a 3 year rotation.
  10. if there is an impact, Baker will use it as an excuse.
  11. 24 teams 2 divisions per league 12 teams per league Division winners make the playoffs. I know, it'll never happen, but I can dream (and play baseball mogul), right? Also, I'm all for contraction.
  12. It is out. MVP 2006: The Road to Omaha
  13. If Raul Valdez is as good in real life as he is on MVP 05, we'll be in great shape!
  14. awww, just use batting average and you'll be fine.
  15. Yep, he did it in '89. The title to this thread should be "You Make the Call"
  16. When I get it cleaned up, I'll take some pics. It's actually a small bedroom I've turned into an office. A lot of it isn't displayed yet, as I need more cases and picture frames. The wife wasn't happy with the Aaron jersey purchase, so I had to negotiate. It will now be my birthday present from her (my birthday is in August...lol) and I will receive it and be able to display it then. LOL The jersey, without the autograph, is $300! I bet the charity is very happy with you :)
  17. Vance, where do you keep your collection? You're bound to have one kick ass rec-room / mini hall of fame. I'd love to see pics of it.
  18. So we'll get to hear how, if the Big Red Machine were to play in the WBC, it wouldn't even be close --- BRM would mercy rule every team within in 3 innings. . . . .. .. something like that?
  19. the cubbies are coming, tra la la la!
  20. The return of Ryne Sandberg did it for me.
  21. I don't know what this means. His job will be the same regardless. And over the course of the year, he'll face the same level of competition regardless. If those guys are hurt and they try to get him to throw 8-9 innings a game, it will have an effect, but I don't see that happening. Spot in the rotation doesn't really have an effect on performance. The only exception might be if you took an unstable unproven kid and made him your opening day guy and put all your hopes on him. That stress might affect him. But Greg's spot in the order is not going to affect how he pitches. It just means that I think there is less pressure on Maddux when the big guns are ahead of him. Seems like the past few years, Maddux has been relied on to be as high as the #2 starter.
  22. I think Maddux's success will be directly related to the health of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood (assuming Z is his normal self). IF maddux is allowed to be the 4th starter, I think he'll flourish.
  23. was harry's last wrigley broadcast also Sandberg's last wrigley game?
  24. In August of '89 (i was 12) we went to Wrigley for the first time. The Cubs had just moved into 1st place and were playing the expos. We were at the park real early, hoping to get some autographs. Fans lined the walls until Harry arrived. Someone shouted "theres Harry!" The crowd just mobbed him and he ate it up. He signed stuff, posed for photos, and BSd with the fans. It was like Elvis had arrived.
  25. Yeah I remember sigining "Take me out..." at Comiskey with Harry. Good times. I like it when he called Ryne Sandberg, Ryne Santo. I could feel Steve Stone in the booth want to correct him, but he never did, that I can recall. I miss him. Don't forget cub greats, Sand Ryneberg, Ryne Dawson, and Andre Sandberg. Those guys were awesome. I remember a game in '93 where the cubs took a big lead against the phils. By the 9th, the phils had taken the lead. The cubs were playing like crap. Then, in the bottom of the ninth, down by 1 with a runner on base, Doug Strange hits the ball. . . Harry: Awww, Christ! he popped it. . . . . way back. . . . it might be, IT IS. HOLY COW. The wind was howling out that day :D
