  1. So he grounds into a DP once every 8-10 games. It's not that big a deal. I think we tend to think up stuff like this because we primarly watch cub games. I bet if we watched more cardinal games, we'd get the feeling that pujols grounds into a ton of DPs.
  2. come aug 27th, I plan being on a first name basis with many of these fine folks. Lord knows, I'll need it to sit through 3 hours of this team ;)
  3. i plan on streaking that day. . . . . i'll be wearing a smile, a pair of tennis shoes, and will have "ryno rocks" written on my rear end. I'm very much looking forward to this coming weekend. I have nosebleed seats for the 27th. . . . .plan on consuming an old style or 6. Then it's on to the 28th and finishing up my summer of sandberg!
  4. it would be great to see #23 in the dugout for the Cubs, but we all know managers are hired to be fired. How would this kind of stuff look: Ryno sucks! Ryno Busters Ryno blows FIRE Ryno Ryno is a moron Ryno is stupid I hate Ryno I hope the only coaching he does is for his son. Now, Grace on the other hand, would at the very least be an entertaining manager.. . . . just think, he could employ a "slump buster sunday" during a losing streak.
  5. Dempster is not part of the pen's problems. Brantley needs to get an [expletive] clue :D
  6. standing ovation for Vance! Nevermind the fact that Ryno walked away from the biggest contract in baseball. Kinda tough to say a guy is classless when that guy holds his family above all others and doesn't stoop to such levels as playing ball just for the money. Heck, if 1/10 of the rumors are true, Sandberg was battling marital problems for quite some time. I think in 1994, it all came to a head with his wife walking out and leaving him holding the bag. Sure, he could have hired a nanny or got a family member to take care of the kiddos, but apparently he places too high a value on family. When Ryno retired, I was pretty devastated. I couldn't imagine what would cause him to do such a thing. It really wasn't until I had kids of my that I realized what could have been going through his mind at that time. There are plenty of guys you can look down on and say they disrespect the game. Ryne Sandberg is not one of those guys.
  7. i remember getting hammered in the game thread over this (I it was blueheart). I hate to see Z hurting, but I do like him serving some of us a big ol' helping of crow.
  8. I'm with you, dude. Contract some teams and get rid of the wild card. There was nothing wrong with the system pre 94. Oh, boo hoo hoo, the Giants won 103 games and didnt make the play offs. Cry me a river. In recent years, the only pennant race has been the race for the wild card.
  9. ryno has been a spring instructor for quite a while now. I just can't seey Ryno as a manager. I get the impression that he doesn't want to do it right now -- too much family stuff going on.
  10. sounds way to much like the movie, "major league"
  11. Is Ricky Henderson available? Hey, I heard Jamie Moyer is available. I heard Doug Dascenzo was at Ryno's induction ceremony - he was a CF wasn't he? :-P he held the major league record for consecutive errorless games at CF at one time. . . don't know if it has been broken or not.
  12. Ok, this is the last time I'm going to mention this incident tonight. Miller and Morgan called it (Zambrano quitting) as it was happening in real time. Most people watching thought the same thing (go back and read the thread when it happened and you will see simultaneous posts about Z quitting). That happened before Morgan and Miller tried baiting Baker into telling them about what happened in the dugout. miller and morgan didn't call it. they weren't saying a single word as ESPN was showing Z going past Rothschild as they were going to commercial.
  13. looks like lee's front shoulder is flying open. . . pulling off the ball a bit. .. . . . not good at all. c'mon, DLee. . . . youda man. . . . a 2 run homer would be nice!
  14. cedeno 0-1. . . no PT for 3 more weeks holly 1 hit. . . . sures up a starting spot for the next 3 weeks neifi 1 hit. . . . nomar, take a seat
  15. I agree. It's not like Z would be the type to leave the mound and say "hey coach, my back hurts and I don't think I can go any more." He's a firey guy who'd most likely get pissed off at himself and do what he did. Maybe the "throat slash" just meant "I'm finished." Like others have said, those 80 pitches in only 3 innings are tough on a guy.
  16. i think this is the first instance of Baker being called a liar.
  17. ummmm, no. . . ..he was acting like a child and quit on his team and is a bum, etc, etc, etc.
  18. it's most likely they took Z out of the game. THose were some grueling innings. Sometimes 80 pitches isn't just 80 pitches. They did not take him out. Did you see him give Rothschild the done sign? Larry looked at him incredulously as Zambrano stompped to the clubhouse! He left on his own and as he was walkig away, Larry went to tell Dusty. BS!!!! I've just lost a lot of respect for Carlos. you never know. they might have told him they were taking him out. i'm sure we'll know for sure tomorrow morning. They didn't tell him that! My goodness, the camera showed him motioning he was done as he was walking into the the dugout. Rothschild went to talk to him for encouragement (as all pitching coaches do) and Carlos said "no" or something to that effect then walked into the clubhouse. You can tell by Larry's face that he was upset with Zambrano. I'm sure they expected him to go at least one more inning if not 2.. The Cubs don't have a day off until the 18th. Zambrano stomped off. It was very apparent. innocent until proven guilty. unless, of course, we're talking about taking sterroids.

  21. Unless Barrett can put up some game breaking type offensive stats, I think he's nothing more than a hinderance to the team. His defense was pretty good earlier in the year, but he has been lackadasical recently. Damien Miller wasn't too bad. . . .
  22. i could be wrong, but i don't sense a lot of sarcasm in your posts.
  23. Yes he was running forward, if memory serves.
