  1. two biggies for next year: 1) Wood. If he's healthy, he takes alot of the pressure off our 3-5 starters. 2) Mabry. He'll be able to be a solid replacement for Aramis, thus hopefully allowing Aramis to play a full season. Mabry could be the guy that allows baker to sit guys like Aramis and Lee every so often.
  2. I'm as liberal HOF guy as you'll ever meet, but I can't bring myself to vote Garvey in.
  3. I think he wears his hat that way because he's french.
  4. They way I see it, Pie is no guarantee. Pierre is a proven ML lead off hitter. If he has a great year and Pie is not ready, maybe we're able to use Pie to strengthen our team via trade. Then again, maybe Pie is ready and he compliments Pierre --- many experts aren't pegging Pie as a lead off hitter any way. If Pierre doesn't work out, then he's gone. Sure, we gave up some pitchers, but we can't stock pile all of our young players. Chances have to be taken . . . just the nature of the beast. I, for one, am greatly looking forward to watching Pierre play.
  5. My thoughts exactly! The 82-89 Cub uni's were the best. It just so happens that those years I was ages 5-13 -- the years I learned to love baseball.
  6. If the Cards expect that Monday "deadline" to be a promise, they're really, really dumb. Setting a deadline the day Winter Meetings begin is a pretty obvious negotiation move. As a life-long Arkansan, I really appreciate you talking crap about me and the other citizens of the state. When a native Chicagoan wants to play for the Cubs it's called "coming home." When an Arkansan wants to play for the Cards (Arkansas is historically a Cardinal state) it' called wanting to be a "hill billy."
  7. I forgot that I'd vote Jim Rice in as well. Do any of you think Ryno will get in this year? ;)
  8. why would a Soriano / Mench deal only be worked if we DO NOT get furcal? I would assume it should be the other way around. Otherwise, Baker will hit Soriano in the lead off spot.
  9. it's entirely possible that noone gets in this year.
  10. Pot is illegal in the US. In 190? they named it a the World Series because (i would assum), the US was the only place where baseball was being played.
  11. Sutter Gossage Dawson Murphy Blyleven That's my ballot. I'm a liberal. I will not change :)
  12. i still can't believe we got rid of choi ;)
  13. Hey Joe, do you want us to trade away all of our talent so you can mold young players or do you want us to keep the good guys and win some games? Joe: Uhh, I won a bunch with the Yankees. Tell those all stars to hit the road. Yippeeeeeee!
  14. he always hit a home run when he subbed for McGwire (or so it seems). by that rationale, DLee will start, get maybe 1 AB and the other 450 ABs will go to Mabry :) I like the possibilities of getting a true bench player like Mabry. Go for it!
  15. i'm a lefty. i'm way cooler than all of you.
  16. shoot, that's nothin' a little caulk and duct tape won't fix. carry on. . .
  17. sandberg stole 54 back in 85. Surely someone swiped 50 since then.
  18. if we start one of those BandWGN things for Pierre, I wanna be the driver. I love the guy and think he'd help our club out more than just about any player out there (that we can possibly get).
  19. Batman defeated Superman. Granted, it rendered Batman a useless blob of poo, but he still took out supes. I can't remember the name of the comic, but the one that had all the JL characters fight each other. Supes fought Wonderwoman. I think Supes then fought Flash. Batman took out Martian Manhunter. In the end Batman defeated Superman. Spiderman wasnt invited.
  20. Yeah, it's right up there with letting a 6'9" lefty with crap tons of talent go rule V. . . .
  21. I, too, am rooting for the White Sox. I pretty much dislike all things Texas. I've never cared for Biggio, hated Kent when he was a stro, and can't stand ESPN's penile fest with Clemens. I do not live in the chicago area, so I've never experienced the cub / sox hate thing first hand.
  22. Yeah, .276/.326/.354, what a leadoff man. heck, if he reproduced those stats he'd be one of the 10 best lead off hitters in cub history ;)
  23. i do it in a second. patterson is done. rich hill could be great, but who knows. pierre is a lead off man. we need one of those.
