  1. My little town of 9,000 folks is having a cubs watch party at a local joint. . . .orchestrated by me. . . . .expecting a surprisingly large crowd. Hell, there's another guy in town that scored NLDS tickets.
  2. my family of 4 owns 5 Bryant Jerseys (I have a road alt, wife has a road alt, son has all 3) and 3 Shirseys. My 8 year old daughter wants a shirt with his "cute" face on it. We have bryant fever. . . . .sad, really.
  3. Okay - that makes sense. Thank you, sir.
  4. checking the final numbers for the year and I see KB had 5.4 oWAR to Rizzo's 5.2. I have a decent understanding of WAR, but can't figure out how Rizzo didn't have a higher WAR. .
  5. winner winner NLDS game 3 as long as we win the damn Wild Card game dinner!!! Section 536 row 5! Got right in and found 4 tickets together immediately. . . . . price was much lower than I expected.
  6. My thinking is no one will try for WC. Mondays game will be hot. I'll try for Tuesday 4 tickets. Will go with my best friend and our 12 year old boys. Gotta win that WC game!!!!
  7. Holy [expletive]! I totally forgot about registering for this. Just checked my emai and A WINNER IS ME. I get a shot at WC and / or NLDS games. Wow!
  8. Rizzo stole a bag while up 5 late in the game. . .. I just assumed the BFIB bemoaned such villainy as well.
  9. In July I took the family to Atlanta for 2 games -- Lester took a no no into the 8th. Arietta was money. Good times, right? I dropped the family at home and me and 2 buddies went to Wrigley for the last 2 Phillies games and the first Rockies game. So, the Hammels no hitter (bummer). . . . . . but we were there when Bryant hit THE WALK OFF (Pt 1). The cubs were playing kinda crappy up to that point and it seems like that play has been a spring board to better things. The atmosphere after the game was incredible. Even after the crappy play against the Phils, there was a sense of "we actually are good" in the air. A close 2nd for me was taking my son to see Bryant play in Memphis for Iowa. I really had no idea what KB was about. I knew he was a stud prospect, but the guy was impressive in his general demeanor. My son had been following him much closer than I had, and he was in baseball heaven. Getting to see him in the minors then again in the majors has been the highlight of my kids' year. Hopefully some playoff wins and KB homers are still in the future.
  10. Overall, Schwarber and Russell have been the biggest surprises. Recently, I've been surprised that Hammel, Hendricks, and Haren have pitched like a bag of hammered buttholes and the team has still won games.
  11. MlB Radio had a segment on Russell batting 9th yesterday before the no-hotter. The guy doing the talking from SABR and had some really good things to say about Addison. For one, he said that batting him 9th really doesn't protect him. He doesn't get the benefit most NL hitters get by facing a pitcher a 3rd time through the order. Instead, he gets 1 or 2 ABs then it's facing very good (compared to most years in baseball history) right handed relievers. The guy argued that Russell's numbers would be noticeably better if he were in a different place in the lineup.
  12. I like to dream of a world where the cubs have more money than god. . . . and give Jake a big fat extension and give Price whatever he wants.
  13. So much to catch up on. . . . The spawn of Bhogg has the stance, but doesn't hit dingers at the same rate as Bryant. I've been on NSBB for 10+ years. . . . I'm OLD BALLS Cannot believe you are surprised at the Hogg name. As you might imagine, I get my fair share of "boss hogg" references. As fate would have it, the real boss hogg is my dad. . . he's the Sheriff in a small county in southeast arkansas. I'm all for sending Ryno the KB cake, but so far I've not found a legit Sandberg social media account. Truth be told, he probably still has a myspace page.
  14. My son, Ryne, is 12. He's a total Bryant fan / stalker. We saw him in Memphis the first week of the season, then we made the trip to Atlanta in July. Very cool that my son has a favorite player that will be with the team for an extended amount of time. And it's cool that he wants to wear the same number 17 (he wore 23 every year until this one). But it's expensive as crap now that he wants. . . . . KB emroidered autograph on his new ERA hat, KB shirsey, KB jersey, KB road alternate jersey, KB poster, KB pennant, KB psa graded 10.0 rookie card, and the the real kick in the ass, the KB pro prefferred custom Rawlings baseball glove -- ONLY $449.99!!!!!!!!!!!!! The boy has everything but the glove. . . . and I'm pretty sure I can convince the wife to get it for us, I mean him. Oh and who can forget the KB Birthday cake? Here's a pic from June. . . .he even tries to copy the stance.
  15. Piniella was more pregnant
  16. I had to listen to much of the series on XM, which meant I had to listen to the Sox Radio guys. They had to be the most smug assholes on the radio. Tons of snarky comments. They went on for a few innings about how bad it was that Castro isn't the SS. They went as far as saying Russell had no business at SS since he was a 2B all year. Lot's of comments about Schwarber being a lucky rookie and the high fast ball will be his down fall. The best was when Rizzo was batting. . . . Color guy: Rizzo having a great year for the Cubs PBP guy: Yea, I guess Color Guy: how about that "jump the tarp and catch a foul ball while falling into the front row" catch he made? It was a great catch. PBP guy: I didn't see it. Heard it was okay. Color guy: it was really good -- he ended up seated in the front row. PBP guy: well, I didn't see it not word for word, but close. . .really close. So snarky. So smug. So jealous.
  17. Yea, he's hit curves an sliders pretty well. . . . the change up has been a killer. I should have been more specific when I said "off speed." He's freakishly quick. . . .he shouldn't have any problem letting the ball get deeper. That just screams that it's more of a lack of confidence / mental thing than a mechanical thing. What still amazes me is that he's hitting like a pitcher for a month, but with 3 ball counts pitchers still throw junk on the corners. They're still afraid to give him a fastball.
  18. another thing I wonder is if he has trouble recognizing pitches. Seems like he gets K'd on change ups most of the time. It's one thing to get K'd on a great change up. . .but he's whiffing on everyone's change up. He's swinging over them, too. Timing is all screwed up. My only reference is the kids i coach. When one of my kids gets consistently beat by offspeed stuff, we go to the cage and I make them hit everything -- BP, tee work, soft toss -- to right field. Everything is a fastball -- hit the fastball to opposite field. If nothing else, it allows that changeup to get inside the hitting zone when they swing. I guess it's a form of resetting the hitter's timing. that said, KB is really in sad shape if he were to ever take advice from a bum like me!
  19. It's pretty simple. Look to hit the ball to right field. As long as he's trying to hit everything to left, he's going to see a constant diet of off speed stuff on the outside black. Until he looks at right field, he'll continue to start his swing too early, hit the ball waaaay outside of his body, and either whiff or roll over. Once he starts hitting that 83 mph change on the outter half, he'll get more fastballs, which means he'll get more dingers.
  20. I understand there could be a huge difference between what the Cubs would give for Hammels straight up and what he will actually go for. What do you think cubs give straight up for him? What would it take if the Phils paid a portion of the remaining contract?
  21. Ahhh, sitting here in my atlanta hotel contemplating the 110 degree heat combined with the offensive ineptitude of this team. .....and I want to drink! Hoping for more good innings from lester and a good 6 or 7 runs from the offense!
  22. Cubs will play the Cards for the WC. . . . . Wacha vs Arietta.
  23. I'd like to see a 5-4 home stand and go into the break 47-39. Make a couple of moves in July, finish 43-33 and see what 90 wins will do. This team reminds me of the Royals last year in that both teams hovered in that 5-8 games over .500 all season. . . . .gotta hope the Cubs get hot and finish strong.
  24. My sources tell me that brian Roberts just has to pass his physical then it will be announced
