  1. Just got my denial email
  2. I'm seeing uppers for less than $500 on stub hub. If I don't get lottery tickets I'll bite the bullet and make the 11 hour trip for game 2. Already have the days Inn near wrigley booked
  3. I had rally smokes. . . .went through a half a pack of Kools the last 3 innings.
  4. I hate hate hate hate hate Lackey. He's a jackassical meathead with soooooooo many white teeth and has the look of someone who wants to make america great again. But, I also have a feeling that he will do something stellar in the post season. So much so that I'll exclaim to my TV set, John Lackey you magnificent bastard!!!!! I'll lean towards a big game 6 World Series victory that sends us to an epic game 7 in Fenway park. . . . . .and we win!!!!!
  5. Cubs are no longer fangraph's favorites to win the pennant. Dodgers have a slight edge on them.
  6. You hit on something that worries me a little with the Giants. Say the Giants have to throw Bumgarner one of their last 3 games to get in the playoffs. If they win the WC game, Madbum gets the ball game 1 at Wrigley and game 4 in San Fran. I really don't want any part of that.
  7. I don't buy into the worry of being a 100+ win team that loses the LDS. Yes, it's happened a lot, but I think the most important aspect is level of domination. The cards won 100 games last year, but their record was marginally better than the 2nd and 3rd best teams. Not many teams in baseball history have been so much better than the field than the Cubs of this season- -- 17 game division lead and 8 or 9 game lead over the next best team in the league. Granted, if the cubs slack off and finish at 100 wins; and the Nats go on a 16-4 streak, the gap will be closed and you can lump the cubs in with those teams who won 100 games and lost early (if they even lose early). I fear the most difficult series the Cubs will play is the NLDS. Anything can happen in 5 games -- one pitcher gets hot and beats you twice, you're in trouble. One hitter can go crazy for a couple games and you're toast. At least in a 7 game series, you have to have more than just one aspect to beat a team 4 out of 7.
  8. Holy cow, I've been around since 03 and Fred was always there, always positive, always fun. Also, I had no idea his real name was Fred Hornkohl. . . .. .he will be missed :(
  9. meh, what's he supposed to say to those rednecks if he wants to keep his job? I'll take that as a yes. . . .will tell my friend to proceed with caution :D
  10. Is it okay to wish a preventable fire upon the jackass Cardinal announcer who, after the last out of a 1-hitter that gives the cubs a 17 game lead over a team that wouldn't make the playoffs if the season ended today, that said " I still think we see the cubs in the playoffs and beat them?" asking for a friend. . . .

  12. Did Dave get Mark Grace's permission to wear that number?
  13. I hope Chapman shoots out the new ceiling of the new clubhouse and lets Lackey know the next time he whines about our elite defense the next is going right between his donkey teeth. I love you
  14. Sosa got into some DV mess in 2002 around the all star break. He missed a few games due to a hand injury --- rumors were he cut it on a bottle or something along those lines. This was during the time that Sammy could have killed the pope and been cheered for it, so who knows. . . . . .I was in Atlanta and looking forward to seeing Sammy play but he was out with the phantom injury.
  15. Considering they had a lot of material to cover in an hour show, they did okay. It would be interesting to have a 3 part series -- Early Years (St Louis / Oakland), White Sox, and Cubs. It's a testament to the man's showmanship that he was only with the cubs for 16 seasons and made such a lasting impact. I remember when I went to Wrigley in 89 (as a 12 year old) I was down near the field trying to get autographs. The crowd was thick as the cubs were taking on the expos (both teams tied for 1st place) in August '89. Lots of great players were out signing. A guy comes walking down from the concourse. Someone yelled, "Hey, there's Harry!" and just like that there was no more lines for player autographs. Everyone flocked to Harry. He shook hands, posed for pics, signed autographs, and kissed baby's . The only figure I've seen that had that kind of draw was Bill Clinton.
  16. they are almost as bad as Harold "WAR is not a stat!!!" Reynolds
  17. Yea, I was shocked how cramped and small the HoF is. Granted, it was induction weekend 2005 when I was there, but it's still really small. There's no excuse why it shouldn't be so much bigger. Love the idea of having large sections for each team. . . . mini halls of fame within the hall of fame. Brilliant!!
  18. They are probably paying him well to sign autographs, take photos, and be a one on one instructor (which he always had high marks for doing). It will be great for old guys like me, who grew up as Sandberg as their favorite player, to take in games with their kids and share stories, etc etc etc (insert martinez / palmeiro here). Great move.
  19. 160 correct. I did great in 1991 - 2003 or so. Did terrible the last 10 years with the exception of last season.
  20. old balls here. . .. . Favorite / most memorable baseball play --- Gibson's homer in the '88 series. I was 11. I was for the A's until that moment. .. . and I bet I reinacted the homer a million times over the next few months. Favorite cub moment -- Kris Bryant's game 3 NLDS homer. He's my son's favorite player and we were sitting in the upper deck that fine evening. Good times. Football -- Montana to Taylor to win Superbowl 23 (I think) vs the Bengals. Again, I'm 12 yrs old and that play sticks out in my mind. Basketball -- Scotty Thurman's 3 pointer to take down duke in the '94 NCAA title game. Woo pig!
  21. I don't hate the guy and would not mind at all if he throws out a first pitch. I would expect Sammy to get a huge ovation. For me, '98 was fun for sure. . . but it didn't take long to realize all the homers were BS and completely inflated. Sammy was cool right up to the weird last day of 2004. Bad situation all around.
  22. The Sammy thing has to be for fans of a certain age?? I'm 39 and don't have strong feelings one way or another about Sammy (or any other steroid era players, regardless of team). Are there any guys from the 1945 team still alive? If so, give them a game. Maybe ask Sutcliffe or Maddux. Dawson is a good one, too. What's Shawn Estes up to these days?
