  1. If Maddux has a comeback year, I'd definitely want him retained the next year because you just never know when it comes to pitching, and Maddux is just a special player. I'd love to see him kept on a one year contract. What we need to do is get Greg into some sort of contract where he finishes his pitching career in Chicago, and then turns around and becomes a coach. Greg Maddux for pitching coach :)
  2. I might be crazy, but I'm expecting a last hurrah of sorts from Maddux so that he can either retire with dignity or convince the team they need him the next year. I'm hoping his improved conditioning will give him back a little of what he lost, and we just might see a Maddux who can go into the 7th more often, and maybe keep that ERA below 3.50. At least I hope :D
  3. damn, he must be in bad shape if they're not even going to give him a spring training invite.
  4. Can't help but rally behind these guys, what with the "oops, we spaced the offense man!" surprise management has coming up. Hell, they better practice batting a little more... But hey, I'm an optimist, maybe Jacque will come into camp early looking buff, and doing whatever Mr. Gwynn tells him to do
  5. I'm on .290/.350/.410/.760 That's my prediction :D
  6. Oopsy on having my years messed up. And yet, go Greg!
  7. Apologies if someone else started this, search is currently disabled and there's a lot of pages to look on, lol. If someone else did, she's still yours, just bringing it back! Anyway, grew up a Cub fan in the 80's, one of my best memories is watching Greg pitch us to the postseason in 89. Broke my heart when he wasn't in blue the next season... Might just be the Cubbie Kool-aid, but I think Greg still has one last run in him. He's hired a personal trainer for the first time in 20 years. He doesn't know if he's got anything beyond next year, so why hold anything back? Maybe, just maybe, if he reports to camp early, works his butt off and gets right into the thick of things, Greg Maddux might surprise us all. He might not be as good as he was, but he might yet be as good as he ever was one time. And that may be all we need for a miracle year
  8. I think our bullpen is going to be key next year. If everything falls into place, we're going to be incredibly deep and probably have a few pieces that can be traded to improve our offense. If Williamson is healthy, he has to be your guy in either the 7th or 8th inning. That is unless Dusty has the starters throw 130 pitches :?
  9. Well, i hope Todd is working on his defense, hopefully he wins the job.
  10. Pretty sure Glendon never filed for free agency, we can trade him anytime.
  11. If you could swap Barrett and filler for Abreu, i'd do it, else, no thanks.
  12. Who said anything about center field? I'd rather have him to take every lefty for Jacque, give Slappy some rest, and give Murton a day off here and there against a righty (maximizing potential by giving Jones and Murton days off against pitchers they'd have trouble with anyway). I mean, Michaels will only be arbitration eligible in 2007, we'd have him for at least two years. And, gosh, insurance if any of the 3 starters in the outfield get hurt ( ! )
  13. Someone should have let Jim know that the #2 hitter is pretty darn important too
  14. Days like this suck. According to Rotoworld, once the Coco Crisp/Andy Marte deal goes down, the Phillies are going to trade Jason Michaels for Arthur Rhodes. Yep, a reliever who seems to have random good years and bad years. What about Michaels? Oh, well, his line last year was just .304/.399/.415/.814, and he literally kills left handed pitching. We couldn't POSSIBLY have any use for that... Just kills me to see what could be an essential piece to our team go elsewhere for so little. Surely a package of Novoa and Welly would be a good place to start. Ugh
  15. To be honest I think Boras's run as the guy who can get his clients whatever he wants is over. He didn't get Johnny Damon a 7 year contract, best he could do was 4/52. Heck, he didn't even get Washburn $10 million a year. I think the recent busts on his clients (Maggs and Beltran) have hurt his ability to screw people over. Hell, I think that is part of the reason why Carlos dumped him. I'm betting Weaver gets $6 or $7 million, for a year.
  16. I'd love to see us get Weaver, but would prefer we get a team option for the next year if we want to keep him around. Say a 1 year $8 million deal with a $9 million 2007 option or something like that. And yeah, just say no to Lugo, give me Cedeno at short and Walker at second.
  17. Mabry cost us, what 1 million? Branyan would cost us less than that? Sign both and let them duke it out in spring training for the bench spot. I'm not too concerned about eating a million.
  18. Definitely like to see Hidalgo signed, he's only 30, had very nice numbers against lefties as recent as 2004 (860 OPS). I know I know, he might take time away from Murton. But we can't just not see what he's got because our manager is a tool.
  19. Sweet, I've got something to do today!
  20. Well, the bright side is, if both are in camp in a couple months, we can let them prove who should be playing in spring training :D
  21. What we need out of the two hole is a guy who can get on base. If Jerry is really back to pre-injury form, and gets on base better than Walker and out does him defensively, then he should get the job. If Walker is better, he should get the job. Open season in my view.
  22. It's sad, I was cracking jokes about the Colts/Steelers game all day, someone asked me how I could be so lighthearted about it. I had to explain that I'm well conditioned :x
  23. Heh, as a Indy native, I sure hope that we NEVER make it to the Cubs class
  24. Am I the only one who wishes they'd try to sign Carlos to a long term deal that buys out his first year of free agency? I'd sure love to know for a fact he'll be here another 4 years...
  25. No clue where to put this since it sort of belongs in social because of the Colts angle, but it does have Cubs content, so I have no clue, move it if need be mods :D Anyway, this is from today's Indianapolis Star http://mypage.iu.edu/~trarobin/cubs/cubscolts.jpg Sad but true...
