  1. God I love the sound of the ball cracking against the bat.....in both Chicago calls....its like.....blah blah blah.............SPLAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pat and Len are both jolted into home run calls!
  2. O h man......that is hilarious.....I want to drink with you
  3. Yea.....I guess you could call that "ending poorly".......that big yellow "8" on the big green scoreboard is a sight I will never forget. "Ended Poorly" is really an understatement isnt it? They lost in true Cub fashion.....spectacularly.....painfully......with a good dose of agony and humiliation thrown in for good measure. I guess we are all different, but the only memories I have of that season at this point are bad ones. The only good thing to come out of that year is that it truly sucked a good portion of my "Cub Love" out of me. I still love the team and want them to win.......but I just dont care as much.....and overall.....I consider that a good thing.
  4. Sorry....you will have to pay ME to relive that debacle. I dont want to think about it.
  5. Heheh. Thank you sir.
  6. No, I think we've all known Z is an idiot, but wanted to give him a chance to prove he wasn't. Well he is. Race is a non-factor here, and doubt anyone would me it one. Watch.
  7. Next up. Anyone who thinks Zambrano is an idiot is a racist. It's all a racial thing. Here it comes.
  8. Give me a break. The only one to blame for Z's unhappiness is himself. Thanks.....couldnt agree more. Zambrano has acted like a jerk for years.....and the staus of his contract should have ZERO impact on his ability to pitch effectively. You want more money? Earn it. Pitch well and be a gentleman. He's pitched poorly and been a complete moron. Zambrano really needs to be introduced to a mirror.
  9. Perfectly put....sums it up quite nicely.
  10. Buckle up....McGriff is in the fold. Decided to leave Tampa after all. Oh wait.
  11. I followed since the 60's.....and you are absolutely correct. The biggest problem has always been offense with the Cubs.......they never score enough runs. When they do.....they compete.....but the lack of offense (at critical times) contributed to the overuse of Wood and Prior....and many other pitchers through the years. It continues. Yes the bullpen stinks.....also a frequent problem....but more than anything we have lacked consistent offense through the years.
  12. My experience....I'm 47 now.....thats 40 years of caring about this....... The older you get.....the easier it gets. My passion was at its peak in my late 20's to mid 30's. It's been less each year. I will say that the 8th inning of game 6 (was that 03? I forget now) against the Marlins.....took a lot out of me. In a good way. So.....if it is any consolation.....the pain will be less as the years go by.
  13. $5M is enough to last a lifetime if you're planning on living like you and me, but Carlos is probably planning on living in a much bigger house, and supporting his extended family too. There is stress involved when you're working toward a new contract, no matter what line of work you're in. I realize that.....but....it's relative. There is stress....and then there is STRESS. Carlos will live a good life...as will his family. You need a lot of dough to care of that Unicorn though.
  14. Being a Machine Operator for 30k a year is a job. Being a professsional baseball player....and being paid millions of dollars to do so....is a GIFT! Don't delude yourself. If he "only" makes 5 million.....its enough to last a lifetime....and its not something to "worry" about. He's going to make a whole lot more than that....regardless of his performance. I dont begrudge his ability to do so...more power to him.....but to try to insinuate that he's not performing well because of the stress of not knowing how big his pile of money will be is ridiculous. This is frequently brought up by fans....and it's always ridiculous.
  15. Yes.....oh the pressure of not knowing if you will receive 25 or 40 million to play baseball in the major leagues for 5 years.
  16. Pitcher begins to suck.....he's hurt and its Dusty Bakers fault. Maybe he isnt that good? Where is it written that if you were good at one time....you will stay that good....and if you are not....then it is because of injury or because you pitched "too much". Why is it always someone elses fault?
  17. Could...be...12:30 is kind of early for falling asleep though..... Texting or fiddlling with a Cell phone or IPOd is possible though....those things are really distracting.
  18. Couldnt agree more. Sammy was a lot of things.....not all good....but boy he loved to play and he always played hard.
  19. Oh jeeesh. Dusty sends out Wood and Prior in games 6&7....they both lost. The players lost that series. Not Baker. He was ok for the season...and the series against the Braves.....just that Marlin series eh? Im not a Dusty fan either.....but blaming him for anything and everything....is.....just wrong. Yeah like maybe if he had a half of a brain we pitch to Lenny Harris in game one and we sweep. But, no Dusty, in his infinite wisdom, decides to attack Mike Lowell. But, your right. In a short series your manager should force you to win 5 games instead of the 4 because he doesn't ever want to admit he was wrong carrying Lenny Harris around as a starter for half the year. Or maybe he could have looked across the diamond during game 7 and seen Beckett relieving. He possibly could have thought, hey Z could do that. But, wait man we got to save Z for game one of the world series. That we never made it to. Or perhaps in game 6 when Bartman touches the ball and Alou throws a hissy fit, our manage sees a 22 year old kid on the mound and says, hey I should pry go out and talk to him to tell him no harm done. But, nope we let him fight through that one on his own. Then 8 runs later we are cooked. Your are right though Dusty definately managed that series flawlessly. How silly of me to think that he screwed us royally in that series. Yea....it is silly of you. We could not get out of the 8th with a lead...and Wood did not win the following night. We lost. Manager was not on the field at the time...and our two aces did not get the job done. But lets ignore that...and blame the old guy sitting in the dugout. I never said he managed anything flawlessly. We lost that series because our players did not execute and win when it was on the line. We had it in the bag...and blew it. Period.
  20. Or.....maybe the wrist thing was worse than described? WHat a shock that would be.
  21. Oh jeeesh. Dusty sends out Wood and Prior in games 6&7....they both lost. The players lost that series. Not Baker. 22. Yep. What's amazing to me is that every single Cubs team since 1987 has been horrible fundamentally, can't take a walk, can't run the bases, the pitchers walk too many hitters, defense is shaky. It doesn't matter the personnel or the roster, the Cubs have forever played bad baseball. Let me check my math here....yes.....thats 20 FREAKING YEARS!
  23. THIS....is beyond doubt. And THIS has been the cause of the problems through the years. Again...as the original poster stated....with a very few exceptions. Those of you in you in your 20's and 30's....buckle up....this team has been breaking peoples hearts for 90+ years. What you are seeing is not new. Its been the norm forever. That they havent gotten lucky and stumbled into a World Series along the way is astonishing.
  24. Good. I'm glad he rubbed it in. What's the point of booing an ex-cub? If Toronto came to Wrigley, does anyone think Frank Thomas would get the same negative reception that Sammy got at the Cell? Uh.....yes. Without a doubt.
  25. We are Cub fans. All we can do is kid ourselves.
