  1. The question with Vlad would be how much are you willing to overpay versus last years production? Are you going to project him as 6 WAR over these next 2 years? More? Less? The Blue Jays need a MLB OFer. I would love to cash in on Tauchman and throw him in the deal and then throw in a pitcher like Brown. Is that enough for the Blue Jays to give up on Vlad? Probably not, but how much more would you be willing to give up?
  2. Who is saying this? If they get Ohtani, I can see Vlad being more expendable because hes basically a DH and they would be upgrading to the best DH in baseball, but I wouldn't put the odds that high of him being traded. I would certainly make the call as soon as Ohtani signed, though.
  3. Yes. He signed an extremely undervalue contract and asked for a NTC because he only wanted/wants to play in Cleveland. His agent has publicly said he advised Ramirez not to sign that contract and Ramirez signed it anyway. Why his name keeps being brought up as a possible trade target is beyond me.
  4. It's not just missing out on Ohtani, It's the past few years of showing reluctance to match the market as a top 5 revenue organization in baseball. It's the pivot to guys like Glasnow and Hoskins, There is nothing about the way this organization is being run that leaves any sort of confidence in turning things around. People want to act like we are trying to emulate the Dodgers or Astros. We dont. We dont have a Betts. We dont have a Freeman. We dont develop players near the level of those 2 organizations and we damn sure dont commit to the ones that do develop. We are over here chasing down Mancini's and Barnhart's on multi year deals. We are giving marginal players like Ian Happ NTCs. We are crossing our fingers half a dozen AA prospects succeed at an exceptionally high rate.
  5. Did they go all in? They may have done the whole song and dance with showing him around, selling him on the city, selling him on the direction and future of the Cubs, and showing him where he fits in... but he's still debating on where he's going and the rumors surrounding the Cubs are less than promising. So did they really go all in or did they do their usual we'll give you less years and slightly higher AAV at a $100M discount... sound good?
  6. I'm out on Bellinger. The rumored asking price from Boras has only been going up. I would have to believe that would mean there's at least serious discussions with a team firmly over 200M.
  7. The Astros have been extending their core to avoid dipping in the top end of the FA pool, though they have triple dipped on Justin Verlander now. The Cubs havent been willing to stick their neck out too far on their young players. They "extended" Hoerner a whole year. Ian Happ is the longest extension given out. Meanwhile, a guy like Altuve has been with the Astros for 12 years now. They just gave Alvarez a 6 year deal.
  8. I really hope the Cubs go a little bigger in trade and bring back someone with control along with Glasnow.
  9. Cubs will be sure to not win the bidding.
  10. Possibly. But this is the 2nd time that Cubs have been a "finalist" for Ohtani. The first time around he wasn't a FA so it came down to how teams were going to use him since he wanted to be a 2 way player. I'm pretty sure Jed has a quote out there where he says that if the Cubs were able to offer him the DH spot like the Angels then he very much liked their chances of getting him. They have the DH to offer him this time around. But this time around we've gone from going all in at the start to not optimistic about the chances. This time around it feels like the contract offer isn't as competitive as it would be if we were truly pushing all the chips in. It feels like the previous years where the market is zigging and the Cubs are hoping the player wishes to zag.
  11. Well, he is Japanese and the Japanese are fairly introverted as a culture. I have a feeling that you wouldn't feel the way you feel if it was looking like he was going to pick Chicago. Your opinion seems pretty biased.
  12. ZiPs hasn't even released its completed projections for all 30 teams, so that number most certainly does not represent the roster as currently constructed. And if you have to ask what the difference is in pursuit of a FA on a 10+ year deal than a player in trade on a 1 year deal then there's really no use in continuing the conversation.
  13. If I'm wrong then why are you so upset that you are wrong about the Cubs lack of interest in Soto? You think this team is projected to win 80 games. This team has Madrigal at 3rd, Wisdom at 1B, Tauchman in CF, Canario at DH, and Taillon as its #2 pitcher. There is no way this team is projected to win 80 games.
  14. Do I think he would turn his phone off? No. But a guy that has said multiple times that he will always value long term over short term isn't going to turn around and trade good prospects for a guy on a 1 year deal thats going to get $30M+ in arbitration. Soto would be a final move, not a first move, and the Cubs havent made any yet.
  15. This news is less painful if you just took a moment to understand the mindset of the PoBO and realize this team is not near built enough for 1 player to be a difference maker for a single season.
  16. If I'm a player looking to win, I'm not looking for "wide open." Wide open can go both ways. The Dodgers are simply going to be winning. It's not a question.
  17. Even if PCA were a bat, the chances the Mariners are looking for a CFer is most certainly 0%.
  18. Its been a while now that the Mariners have been expected to trade one of their pitchers for a bat. I have no idea where the thought of them trading Gilbert came from, though. I suppose its because he's their #3 pitcher right now and if they signed a guy like Snell he would become their #4. But, the guy is a 3 WAR pre-arb pitcher, even if he were available the cost is probably so far above any bat the Cubs can offer that its not feasible a trade happens. Meanwhile, they have 3 other pitchers that would be fighting for 1 rotation spot in Miller, Woo, and Hancock. Miller or Woo seem to be the more likely to be traded because either one of them carries enough value to get a decent bat and then Hancock becomes injury depth.
  19. Nothing is going to help in landing Gilbert. It would help in landing Miller, Woo, or Hancock.
  20. If the Astros are floating Bregman as a trade candidate, it probably just means contract talks arent going their way and they are using the threat of a trade to lower the dollars. Hey look... we are a team competing for the WS. The 3B market is terrible. Lets trade our 5 WAR 3B and replace him with....???
  21. Wait. Are you asking if a MLB pitcher on a 1 year deal is redundant because of a AA prospect?
  22. Is it 2021? Bieber is looking more and more like an Arrieta. He has lost his fastball, he's losing his curveball, and he's losing his control. Glasnow is easily the better pitcher right now.
  23. The kind of thinking to suggest Morel is still an option at 3B is the same kind of thinking that leads people to believe that all top prospects are the future of the team and should never be traded, when they are wrong in that assumption 80% of the time.
  24. The Cubs have closed the book on Morel at 3B. Therefor, I will close the book on Morel at 3B. You dont have a clear opening at 3B and choose to put a player there that is the least likely player to profile for the position, if Morel was an option. You dont ask a winter league to play him at 1B, if 3B is an option. They have done everything in their power to avoid playing him at 3B in MLB. The only thing they could do now would be to literally say that Morel is never going to play 3B on the Cubs, and destroy a good chunk of their leverage in trade negotiations in the process.
