  1. The Buster Posey rule has nothing to do with a catcher blocking the plate. The Posey rule is the part where the runner deviates from the base path to initiate contact with the catcher. Buster Posey was infront of the plate, not blocking at all, and the runner changed his trajectory to plow through him, not even attempting to touch the plate.
  2. It's not complicated. Does the catcher have the ball? No. - Cant block the plate. Yes. - Block away.
  3. Call stands. This teams base running is just atrocious. Shallow fly, outfielder charging in, ball gets there like 4 steps early.
  4. He'll get his chance in the 8th-9th innings, because he can't hit for horsefeathers.
  5. Singles and walks. So many players have to string together something to score a run. Lineup needs thump in the worst way.
  6. He traded away Rizzo, Bryant, and Baez in their final season on a losing team. Big whoop. He said bye to Contreras after they had known for years they had no intention of committing to him beyond his controlled years, They should have traded him the prior offseason. Morel has/had 5 years of control, came off a good season, allegedly had a handful of suitors wanting to trade for him, and most likely valued him more than his actual value on the Cubs roster, and instead of going in on that market, he chose to see if it could work at 3B in MLB after 1000 innings of failed attempts in MiLB. I'm not about to pat Hoyer on the back for his previous moves that were virtually penciled in already. Trading Morel last offseason would have been an infinitely tougher decision than trading any of those players you mentioned. The only thing to give Hoyer credit for would be that he seemingly maximized their value in return, that being said we haven't seen a damn thing yet from those returns and its 3 seasons later. Morel has a ton of control loaded with the potential of his bat, with the others the potential was all used up and it got them a WS... job well done. The problem for the Cubs is that Morels most successful defensive position isn't available.
  7. I'm in the same boat. I give no credit to this team for "trading for the best hitter available." The best hitter was taken off the market because the team he played for went on a little winning streak just before the deadline and decided to change their plan and become "buyers." The hitter being Cody Bellinger and team being the Cubs. The entire idea of signing Bellinger to a rebuilding value/flip contract went out the window for Jeimer freaking Candelario, who naturally got injured, hit for 106 wRC+, and was worth a whopping 0.2 fWAR and the Cubs missed the playoffs.
  8. At no point in Morels MLB career has he ever been close to the Cubs' best offensive player. He is not playing better 3rd base every day, he continues to dig the whole deeper for one of the worst defenders in baseball. The only position he has shown any ability to play is 2B. It just so happens that middle infield is the most locked up positions on the team. Morel is a DH on this team, and he doesnt have a very good DH bat, that we are allowing to butcher 3B, because square peg round hole... He should have been traded, but we have a PoBO that is afraid to make "difficult" decisions.
  9. One of these days I have faith Hoyer will sell high on a player that probably has more value in trade than he does on the Cubs. You can preach all the bad luck you want about Morel, but there were plenty of people yapping in the offseason about how if he just played a position, any position at all, then he would double his production. Whoops. Turns out the 1000 or so innings he played at 3B in the minors and showed how incapable he is at the position isn't boosting his production at all.
  10. It's certainly harder to preach when in year 5 of the "not a rebuild" project, his team is still mediocre at best and struggling to compete in a small market division with $50 million more (nearly $80 million more on the 26 man roster) payroll than the next closest team.
  11. Justin Foscue could potentially be this years version of Jordan Westburg. He just became eligible to return from the 60 day IL the other day and the Rangers dont really have a spot for him to play after he played in just 2 games before getting injured. He's a nothing really special about him prospect, like Westburg was, but he's all around solid, again like Westburg. His arm doesnt get the greatest marks but the Cubs made it work with Madrigal's arm at 3B and 3B just happens to be an opening on this team.
  12. Another OFer is just what the doctor ordered.
  13. Do you also miss every pitcher giving up more runs with Contreras behind the plate?
  14. We gave Happ a NTC. Hes not going anywhere. It's time for Jed to stop hoarding all these prospects and make the MLB team better. Alcantara needs to be on the block. The kid is going to run out of options before a spot on the MLB roster is even available.
  15. If they are trading for an OFer from the Cubs its going to be Tauchman.
  16. Nootbaar is criminally underrated. He's like when Cubs fans thought Suzuki was a bust. Just quietly sitting there with pure red batting metrics.
  17. Bregman's name alone is going to cost more than a rental is worth. The team to look at for 3B is the Rays. They are 8 games back in their division. Isaac Paredes is reaching the moment in service time where the Rays trade players and for whatever reason he continues to defy batted ball logic. They have Caminero in AAA. They also have Mead as a potential target.
  18. Lose a game because we can't field a comebacker to the pitcher. The bread and butter of this team was supposed to be the defense.
  19. The umpire didn't say it like that is written. He started by addressing the review of 2 calls on the field. Then he said "Blocking" followed by a brief pause and said "is confirmed. There is no blocking." The call on the field was that the catcher didn't block the plate, so that call was confirmed. Then he addressed the 2nd part of the challenge. I didn't really find it confusing. Maybe he could have inserted a couple more words to make it less "confusing" but he pretty clearly broke down what the review determined.
  20. I couldn't care less about Sammy Sosa, other than if MLB is going to be inducting guys like Mike Piazza and David Ortiz into the HoF, then Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, A-Rod, etc... should all be in the HoF too.
  21. Cn a better team last year.
  22. I'm not against trading prospects. We are talking about 3 WAR players here. Even a guy like PCA has a pretty minute chance of being that. I dont think I would trade PCA at this stage before giving him a legitimate shot at MLB, given how close he is to being ready to get that shot and the potential availability of his position. But for someone like Alcantara, I have no fucks given. But who are you targeting for 3B in a trade? There aren't many more established than Chapman readily available. The list is Alex Bregman and Isaac Paredes. Bregman isn't getting traded and if you dont like Bellinger's batted ball profile then I doubt Paredes is making you erect.
