  1. Again with this nonsense? So if he doesn’t give up a run in the 4th they should take him out to go to the pen? Exactly who in the pen are you looking forward to seeing for possibly 5 innings? And then what about tomorrow. Pen is used for 5 innings today.
  2. This is assuming he gets it down and runners move up. No sure thing. He hit the ball 108MPH. Bunt was not the right play.
  3. Me too. Basically a Captain Obvious comment! 😬
  4. I think the Cubs cutting Flexen and bringing up Hollowell has nothing to do with what happens next. It is the trade deadline so obviously something should happen in the next few days. With or without this recent transaction that would still be the case. Sorry, probably should have responded to chibears post.
  5. I would be fine with what you are suggesting. I would even add Soroka and Kelly to Bieber/Morton grouping. I doubt they get Eovaldi. Rangers are in the WC race.
  6. I am also fine with just rentals, as long as none cost a top 100 prospect. I also like Cabrera more than Keller, but it depends on prospect costs.
  7. Dbacks are asking for 2 top 100 prospects for Suarez on his own. What makes you think the Cubs won’t have to give up Cassie+ for Suarez and Kelly? I would rather get Keller and Castro if thr price was the same. At least they have Keller after this season.
  8. They don’t have Civale. They got Andrew “Babe” Vaughn for him. Woodruff took his place and him, Miz and Peralta certainly can keep it up. That said, too much is being made of a crazy hit streak for 50+ games.
  9. If Harold Baines is in the HOF, Brock certainly should be. He, at least, was best in baseball at one thing for a long stretch. It is not true that the HOF barrier is 60. I agree, most are k we that, but many are not. Dave Parker just went in. He isn’t at 60. As mentioned before, Baines too.
  10. I know he hits lefties well, but I would still rather get a true right handed bench outfield bat. I do understand your Tauchman idea and wouldn’t hate it. But I would rather see someone who bats from the right side. Wouldn’t hurt if he can play a little first base too. No idea who this could be, btw.
  11. Maybe. But you also might be reading too much into it. It could have been a forgone conclusion within the ownership of the team that Hoyer would be extended. I doubt he was hesitant because of his job security. However, this does tell the rest of the baseball world he isn’t a lame duck. That could be why they did it now. I think he never really was in jeapordy of losing his job.
  12. Boras doesn’t represent Tucker. Also there is no way a top FA signs a 3 year deal. Honestly, if you are going to complain at least have some sense of reality in your rants.
  13. I just said Urias because I know a few by that name are available. I was using him as an example of someone not as coveted as Castro. So really any Urias would do. (Exclude Julio). I could have just as easily picked Kiner-Falefo as an example, but wasn’t sure I spelled his name right. Still not sure. Urias was easier to spell.
  14. Either. Guess the one in the Orioles would be easier. They will be here on 8/1. Trade for Morton and Urias and they can just come to the home clubhouse.
  15. To be clear, I wouldn’t be happy with one rental pitcher and Urias. Now if they did add Iglesias and instead of Urias it was Castro, it is ok. But even then, I would hope for a second pitcher. Kelly, Soroka, Castro and Iglesias would be a fine deadline upgrade. All rentals. But with other teams wanting people too, they still might cost more than we think.
  16. Looks like if anything happens it will happen on Thursday. The issue I have with this is with the Cubs supposedly eyeing controlled pitchers, there really isn’t a reason whoever they are talking to needs to come down on their ask. If they don’t get it they can just keep the pitcher. A rental is different. Trade him or lose him next year. More urgency to move that guy. I am beginning to think Cubs end up with one pitcher who is a MOR starter and hopefully a bench bat. Maybe something like Kelly and Urias. Which doesn’t move the needle much for me. Maybe also a middle relief pitcher or Iglesias.
  17. That’s not the point. The point is there was no way Boyd was going to come out after 3. Can’t blow the entire pen in one game. So he would have used the non circle of trust guys and got bombed. Like they did after 5 innings.
  18. So the guys that wanted Flexen in the 4th inning, how does he look now? There was a reason CC left Boyd in. Flexen sucks!!!!!
  19. My concern is the Cubs want a controllable pitcher. With those the team trying to dump can just decide not to do it if the Xubs don’t match the price and try trading that pitcher next year. It isn’t like a rental. If Az doesn’t negotiate with a team trying to buy either Gallen or Kelly they lose that guy for nothing next year. Same with any rental. So in that case something is better than nothing. So they may lower the cost. If the Marlins want Cassie for Cabrera they could take a lesser package from the Cubs or just keep Cabrera and have him next year. So they don’t have to lessen their price. I am just using Kelly, Gallen and Cabrera as examples. This goes for all rentals versus controlled pitchers.
  20. This has nothing to do with what the post you responded to was about. We were discussing Assad. You are talking Hoyer. Long day, lots of threads open. I get it. But this isn’t for here.
  21. Huge difference between Assad and PCA or Palencia. Those guys had special talent. PCA was and is a 5 tool guy. Palencia throws the ball 102 mph. Assad has no such talent. He is what he is. A solid #5 starter who has lucked into numbers that would make him look like a MOR starter. There is very little reason to assume he will get better because PCA and Palencia did.
