  1. Honestly I don’t love the idea of spending $20M on a closer. And, if somehow, they do get Ohtani I don’t see them spending that kind of money for a closer. But they might if they don’t sign Ohtani.
  2. How about a $20M arm(Hader)?
  3. As long as they don’t sit still for another month and miss out on other moves, sure. But I don’t want them silent for a month as moves are made by other teams. Then end up not getting Ohtani. Or even getting him but not being able to add around him because the moves they wanted to make are no longer there.
  4. I have been there the last few days. I mean, sure I would love it if the Cubs for him. But time to move on to other things.
  5. La Scarola is ALWAYS booked. Try the steak vesuvio. Amazing!!!!
  6. I guess that could be a reason. Pretty weak if you ask me. How many players do the Cubs lose because they fear the elements?
  7. If I could type on my phone and you read my entire post, you would see I know they play in a dome.
  8. He picked Toronto. Do you really think their weather is better? I know they have a dome so at least in games he is fine. But day to day life he will have the same weather as Chicago.
  9. This was something I said days ago. If he picked the Jays that tells me their FO did a better sales pitch than the Cubs. That is disappointing.
  10. I am not pissed at Jed for not getting Ohtani. It was an uphill battle and we lost. Maybe Ohtani likes a little less media attention so he went with Toronto over Chicago. Jed can’t do anything about that. Where I have concern is Jed’s comment about winning the off season. To me he is telling the fan base he isn’t winning the off season. So, more of the same from last year. I don’t doubt he will put a competitive team one the field next year. I am just worried he won’t put a 90+ win team on the risks. Between the comment about winning the off season and him hinting that he doesn’t want to block minor league talent, it doesn’t give me a lot of hope he plans on being aggressive. Hopefully he can be agbresssive and still not block young talent. But I am concerned.
  11. Any non Ohtani rumor is good to see.
  12. We are going nowhere with this. Let me ask you this. Are you in favor of the Cubs giving Ohtani a 10+!year deal? Answer only that question, yes or no. And if it is no, how do you expect the Cubs to get him if others are giving those years? It’s just not realistic to say the Cubs should give him a 7 or & year deal and he should take that over 10-12 years.
  13. I agree with this. IMO they should make these moves regardless of Ohtani. So do it and move on with or without Ohtani.
  14. True but they would have $55M less a year to work with.
  15. The problem with it not being the Dodgers is now the Dodgers become bigger threats to everything thr Cubs may want to do. If the Cubs really wanted JD Martinez, pretty sure the Dodgers could beat them out. Or the Dodgers now go in on Glasnow. Again, more competition. Yamamoto, the other Japanese pitcher, ext…. Dodgers are competition.
  16. Cost saving I 100% agree with. But it isn’t just Bellinger versus PCA. It is Bellinger plus who you trade PVA for. Maybe 1 year of Glasnow, 3 years of Lowe and maybe 3 or more years of someone else from TB versus PCA and hopefully spending money to fill other holes, since you saved so much. Another option for PCA is Clase, Bieber and Naydor( as another example). Maybe PCA and Wesneski? Polanco, Ryan and Jax.? Cabrera, Burger, Puk? In all options PCA is the main piece going back. I understand all might it be available. I am just giving ideas of who actually matches up in valuation to PCA or PCA with a small extra. If the Cubs believe Bellinger can stay a solid offensive player and his market drops to something like Nimmo or Swanson got, he could make sense. But not at $300m or even $200M tbh.
  17. I hope so. But I wouldn’t bet on it.
  18. What is a bit much? What superstar is going to sign for 6 years when every other team is offering 10 years? Hell even a guy like Bogaerts got 10+ years. Now that is stupid. I am talking about the real stars. Harper, Machado, Ohtani, Seager, Judge, Soto…. How do you get those guys for 5 or 6 years when people offer 10? Unless the Cubs don’t want those guys they have to offer the years. And I am fine with anyone, including you, who isn’t comfortable with gicing those years. I do understand it. But you have to also understand they aren’t getting those guys without the extra years. Also, don’t bring pitchers into the discussion. I have no issue with the Cubs or any team not giving a pitcher 10 years. If Yamamoto gets that type a deal I am fine with the Cubs not going there with him. To tell you the truth, I am not thrilled with the idea of 10+ year deals either. But I know that is the cost of doing business with those stars.
  19. I go back and forth on Bellinger. I know people have concerns about his hard hit rate, EV, barrel rate and all of that. But part of that is because with 2 strikes he made a conscience effort to just slap the ball. That would cause issues with all of that. He did produce. And sometimes guys just produce bette than their underlying numbers. That said, I have no interest in him if he is talking $300M. Honestly not even interested in the $200M plus range. But if they were able to do a Swanson like deal AND they kept him in centerfield, I wouldn’t mind having him back. Of course, this would mean moving PCA. And I would be fine with that as long as he brought back at least 2 quality major league players with maybe 3 years of control left. Maybe to a team looking to rebuild for a player or two staring to get expensive. If he isn’t going to be in center and/or someone else is willing to give him $200M+ I am fine with not getting him.
  20. Agreed. Happy it is over or overjoyed they won the bidding! But difference in degree of happy😅
  21. Actually this is what people do during the off season. They comment as things are happening. There are pages and pages of Ohtani talk and he hasn’t even signed yet. Suggesting the words Hoyer used about winning the off season frustrating me is exactly what is being discussed now. Yes, in February things will be different. And maybe Jed’s words don’t match his actions. I have acknowledged that. Maybe he will be aggressive, maybe we will get Ohtani. My comment is strictly based on what he said.
  22. But is that realistic? To get the superstar you have to offer what others are offering. If the industry is offering 10-12 year deals how do you expect the Cubs to get that star player offering 5-6? I am not particularly crazy about giving out 10+ year deals either. But if the jndustry is offering that, and you want a guy bad enough you have to be willing to pony up like the others.
  23. Look, everyone who wants to defend Jed and suggest there is still a long way to go in the off season can. I have no problem with that. And you are all correct, there is a lot of time and the Cubs could make big moves. It isn’t a big deal he hasn’t done anything yet. My frustration comes more from his words than his lack of action so far. He did say winning the off season ends up being a curse rather than a blessing often. Now, maybe I am jumping the gun on that statement. Maybe I am reading too much into that statement. But to me, anyway, that is his way of preparing the Cubs fanbase for an off season that will not be as aggressive as most of us hoped. I would love to come back on this topic sometime right before spring training and say I was wrong for overreacting. I would love to say I let my frustration get the better of me and I jumped to conclusions. I want the Cubs to prove me wrong on what I thought he meant by those words. But IMO this off season is going to be similar to the last one where in the end the Cubs will put a decent team on the field who should win low 80’s again, and if they overachieved maybe win 90 and get in the playoffs. I was just hoping for (and may still get)more.
  24. So you never want the top super star players in the Cubs. I already knew that. Luckily for you Ricketts and Hoyer agree with you. They are very happy to be an average team
  25. Not basing my comments on his actions. More the words in his interview. But maybe he was playing possum and has a grand plan. I hope so. Who knows, maybe then Ohtani dream isn’t dead.
