  1. If that is their plan, then fine. Make it happen. The problem is there is just no proof that is their plan. The plan is more like take who we can get for a value price then shuffle the deck to come up with a roster.
  2. I have no issue with this. My stance is the Cubs need to pick a lane and go with it. If it is Bellinger then go get him. If it is Hoskins/Chapman get him too Same with trades. If they want Bieber and Naylor, make it happen. They should have done it for Glasnow. If they want to add a pitcher in FA I do understand that might develop slower since Yamamoto is still out there. But based on what they have done so far, I doubt they do sign either Imanaga or Montgomery once Yamamoto is signed. I think the pitcher they get will be the guy no one else went after. If we are being honest that has been their MO the last 2 off seasons. Both Stoman and Swanson were signed once the other higher end guys were spoken for.
  3. They do have a plan. It is sign whoever comes available cheaply.
  4. So Morel DH and maybe fill 3rd with whoever we have or small trade for Polanco. I am ok with that.
  5. Just a strange fit. Is PCA still on the team? Do they rotate DH? And if so what happens with Morel? Is he traded for a 3rd baseman? They can do what you suggest and it would be a decent off season. But there needs to be other moves because Hoskins, PCA, Bellinger and Morel all do it fit on the 24’ team. And I wouldn’t trade Morel for Bieber.
  6. For who? Bieber and Naylor? If that does happen that eliminates Bellinger and increases the likelihood of Chapman.
  7. For the record, I agree with you. And posts weren’t suggesting you thought otherwise. Just responding to your post. So if the Cubs don’t get Bellinger that should only be because they don’t believe in him. Not because of PCA, and, frankly, shouldn’t be for cost either. If they believe in him they should sign him, period.
  8. So than PCA should not be used as an excuse not to sign Bellinger, right? If there was room for Lee, there is room for Bellinger.
  9. If reports are right and the Cubs were in on Lee, what does say about PCA? Lee is a centerfielder. People have suggested the Cubs won’t or shouldn’t get Bellinger because of PCA. But if that is the case, why were they considering Lee?
  10. Doesn’t matter if he is in any of our radars, I think he is obviously not on Jed’s.
  11. You know what else a lot of depth in the minors is good for? Trades. They have a lot of quality talent down in the minors. Pick a few and move them for real talent. I know you agree with this. This is just the post I am responding to.
  12. Based on early returns I think your assessment is spot on.
  13. I don’t think anyone has suggested Jed is taking the off season off and not trying. But I do think he may have overvalued his trade assets and undervalued the cost of certain free agents, and due to that he has not been able to do anything. That is different than not trying and also different from being aggressive. So he is either going to have to pony up some prospects in trade, raise the salary threshold he is comfortable with in free agents, or sit back and see who drops to him. So far, it appears he is taking the last approach. And that is just not a good approach for a team with the revenues of the Cubs, IMO. I do believe he will eventually put a decent team in the field. I just don’t like the method he appears to be using.
  14. Yep, ridiculous. And if their plan is to wait to bounce on value guys only, that is a terrible plan for a major market team. I understand it for smaller markets. But the Xubs really should target a guy and get him, period. Not wait to see what falls to them.
  15. I wouldn’t mind Hoskins, but they need another bat and it kind of needs to be left handed. So where do they get that? We all have given up hope on Morel at 3rd so they can’t really trade for Naylor and let him and Hoskins share 1st and DH. So that leaves guys like Polanco or maybe Lowe in a trade. Neither, btw, who have played third. Unless there is going to be a lot of shake up with trades I don’t know how they get that other bas(left handed) if they fill first base with Hoskins. Also, hate this plan to wait and see who falls to them. Definitely a small market mentality.
  16. Madlock won 2 batting titles with the Cubs then they made a stupid trade with the Giants for Murcer and Ontiveros. He went on to win 2 more batting titles. I don’t really remember Madlock being a bad teammate. I don’t feel suggesting he “got uppity” is necessary. Bottom line is the Cubs made a bad deal and traded a very good ballplayer.
  17. I could see him if they did other things as well. Maybe a trade for Naylor and Bieber. Maybe also sign someone like Imanaga or Montgomery. Then add a pen arm. Not my ideal off season, but I do think it would be a good team.
  18. I wouldn’t object to him. But like I said, maybe they can move some infield minor league talent to fill another hole, if there isn’t going to be an opening for a while.
  19. Well, “technically” that’s a plan🤷
  20. Matt Chapman is going to be 31 in April.
  21. I get your point, but Chapman can’t be between Machado and himself. He is a good player, but not exactly what the Cubs need. He is more glove than bat. And they need a bat. He wouldn’t be an awful signing. Just not exciting and if they did sign him they might as well start moving some infield depth. They wouldn’t have 2nd, 3rd and SS locked up for at least 3 years.
  22. Do you mean defensively? Burger was an OPS+ of 120 last year. Wisdom is not at his level. Wisdom is a lot older than Burger as well and cost more. Morel was not an OPS+ of 120 but he is younger, more athletic and has potential to be a that kind of guy. Which is why a 1 for 1 trade was suggested. Or are you saying that, like Morel, Burger can’t play 3rd either. I am not so sure the Cubs are content with Madrigal/Wiadom/Mastroboni at 3rd. I would think they would want an upgrade. Burger’s bat would be just that if he was the same player he was Last year.
  23. In our boring off season does something like Morel for Burger make sense? Both have real power. Morel younger and better athlete. But Burger can, sort of, play 3rd. Does this make sense for either team? Do they have a similar value? Maybe they can be in a bigger deal? Or is Burger strictly a DH too? If so, I would rather keep Morel.!
  24. I honestly think Hoyer goes into the off season with all these ideas on how to make the team better via free agency and trades. But he puts unrealistic limits on the free agents he is interested in and unrealistic value on players on the team he is willing to trade. So when another team offers more money or a better return in trade for someone Hoyer wants the Cubs lose out. Many fans do this as well. But that is expected. We are fans. Our front office should have a better idea of what players cost, whether it is money or trade assets. And they don’t.
  25. This has been very disappointing, I know there hasn’t been much going on elsewhere, either. But this FO needs to start building this team to be the favorite in the central, at the very least.
