  1. I am pretty sure they are done spending and most definitely will not go after any of the 3 big tickets Boras has left. All would take them over $257M. What would be a nice surprise would be if late in the spring they decided Morel can handle 3rd so they went and sign JDM for maybe $15M. Put them over the $237 layer but comfortably under the $257M. But I doubt that happens. For 1 thing, I am not sure they will come to the conclusion Morel can handle 2rd in time for that move. And then there is the money.
  2. I think you will see Cody in a game sometime later next week. But I doubt the late start will be an issue for him. I don’t think hitters are as much a concern as pitchers. Especially not 10 days late.
  3. Please back to the topic of baseball. Stop giving this discussion life. Not worth it.
  4. I agree that is a better spot for him, but does he have enough swing and miss in his game, even for the pen?
  5. I am more positive on the team than many. I was last year as well. Most has them under .500. I had them right about where they ended. I see this team as a mid to high 80’s win team. And with some luck, maybe low 90’s. I don’t really see a weakness in the team. No superstars, but no real weakness either, IMO.
  6. Yep, some ground balls that found holes. He looked good. I think going in he was the guy to beat as the 5th starter, and so far he still looks to be that guy.
  7. To be fair, had Shaw not made an error Wicks might not have needed Canario’s defense. Wicks looked good.
  8. Doesn’t matter what I want the city to say. They should say no to all sports teams. Let them all fund their own teams. I just choose to not get worked up about Ricketts asking. Any CEO would. I am done with topic now. It has me defending Ricketts, which is not something I want to do. I just would rather talk sports than continually bitch about Ricketts.
  9. Did you purposely misrepresent my comment so you can make some sort of rant against Ricketts, or do you have issues with comprehension? Are you a product of the Chicago public school system? I said I do not have an issue with Ricketts asking for funding. I also have no issue with the city saying no. But if it is no, and it should be, it better be no to the Sox and the bears too.
  10. Just want to point out I am not a fan of Ricketts, or corporate America. I just don’t feel like seeing post after post complaining about him asking for funding. The Cubs are a business. A business who makes money for the state and city. So he asked the city for funding. I am fine with them not giving it to him. But if he doesn’t get it, the Bears and the Sox damn well better not get it either.
  11. I am not a fan of Ricketts, but sometimes people go too far. There is nothing wrong with Ricketts asking the city to beef up security around the park. The city does make money in the Cubs too. And he didn’t get one penny to improve the park. Look what the white Sox and Bears want for their parks. Is it right the Sox get hundreds or millions or even a billion dollars to get their stadium built and the Cubs got nothing? Which team/ballpark brings the city more money? I get it, Ricketts sucks. So anything he asks for makes him a greedy bastard billionaire. But in this case, I don’t blame him for asking. Again, I am not a fan of Ricketts. I do think he cries broke while he is making a lot of money. And I hate he doesn’t spend it as if the Cubs are a large market. I just don’t have an issue with this ask.
  12. General admission. I will be there as well.
  13. I am with you. If he has a good year he is opting out. Why chance another good year for that $30M when you can most assuredly get a 6 year or more deal for $160M or more. Maybe he even gets a 7 or 8 year deal if he has a great season next year. To me, Cubs have Bellinger for one more year. If it is more, that means he sucked or was injured in 24’.
  14. But something like 6/$164 is probably more enticing than 1/$30M. He doesn’t have to aberage $30M a year to opt out.
  15. Thank you. Honestly I thought they were worse than that. If Belli leaves after the first year does that raise their payroll per LT purposes?
  16. That is fair, if that is what he meant. But they are working with him. Just like last year, working with Madrigal. At this time last year people were saying the exact same thing. He can’t play 3rd. I know they have different issues. But I also know the Cubs do think they can get him to adequate at 3rd or they wouldn’t try it. We all know about his past. So I took that statement to mean him seeing him launch a throw in practice a few days ago. I know when he did make a bad throw 20thK commented on it.
  17. What have you seen so far? So far in games he has made every play. And, if fact, caught a line drive yesterday that Madrigal doesn’t catch. Two reasons for this. First Morel jumped to catch the ball, which would have been over Madrigal’s head, and second, Madrigal would have been playing closer to home because of his weak arm. I am in no way suggesting Morel wins the job at third. But I am asking how you can make a statement that “from what you have seen” he has been pretty bad.
  18. Are they $6M under? I feel they are right there and possibly a bit over if Bellinger leaves after one year. If you are right that’s a pleasant surprise to me.
  19. I can see this happening as well. Maybe deal Amyly and eat half his contract too. Saves then more money. Basically trade him for nothing.
  20. If they are under the first LT line with this signing, IMO, they are done. If they are a few million over anyway, I can see another small”ish” signing. Maybe for a pen arm for $5M to $8M. If they are over anyway, might as well add but not go over the $257M line.
  21. True. When he goes bad you have to pull him. But we are talking about back in 2016. He won the era title. How often did that happen then? He also was at 60 pitches. He was not going bad. In fact he had the guy struck out but the umpire missed the call. At 60 pitches he was not late in the game. I don’t think it is fair to act like he was some guy who falls apart. But, that said, I wasn’t complaining about Joe pulling him. I do understand his thinking on this move. At the time, I know I didn’t like it, but when Joe explained it I do get it. IMO the only real issue I had with Maddon in the playoffs was using Chapman in game 6 up 5 runs. I don’t have an issue with putting Lester in and even when he took Lester out. Had Chapman not pitched in game 6 maybe he has better results in game 7.
  22. Who had Peralta being the answer to Bellinger? Peralta or Smith, IMO, were always the last bat. Never the bat in lieu of Bellinger. And, when healthy they still may be that last bat, unless either is a problem due to the first layer of the LT. Then I agree, both should be gone. You don’t go $1M to $2M over the LT for either of those guys. Just keep Mervis, PCA, Canario or Mastrobuoni
  23. I don’t think they can and stay under the $257M second layer of the LT. And they FOR SURE are not going over that.
  24. He was at 60 pitches and in the 5rh inning. He also was in a year where he had an era the low 2’s. And had pitched a great game in game 6 against the Dodgers in the NLCS and actually pitched well in his first start in the WS. Not sure who you are talking about when you suggest he has had a career of falling apart in late innings. But even if that is true, (and it is not), this wasn’t late. I don’t have an issue with Maddon bringing Lester in however. As he explained, had he not used him he may have lost him in that game. And it did make some sense at that time with Kionis coming up. And if we are being fair, he did get a swinging bunt from Kipnis that Ross should have thrown him out. And he also struck out Lindor. Result sucked but he did pitch well. But your suggestion that Hendricks always falls apart late is just nonsense. Especially in 2016. And it wasn’t late.
