  1. Agreed. I think the only other thing that could play in is a trade. Maybe for Naylor. But if they fill with free agents, agree with you.
  2. Probably right. And if that is right, I doubt they get Chapman. Hoskins is a nice option, but for it to work best with him, Morel needs to play 3rd. That would then allow either PCA or Mervis a spot in the line up if either deserved it. And most here assume he won’t play 3rd.
  3. I think the safest scenario Is sign Bellinger and Chapman. That allows 1st and DH to be figured out with Morel taking one of the spots. It also allows for either Mervis or PCA to earn a spot. They would just need one of them to force their way into a line up. If PCA earns time in center they move Bellinger to first. If Mervis has a good spring and they decide he deserves another chance he plays 1st. If neither gets it done Morel can play first or Bellinger can play 1st and Tauchman play center. Morel back to DH.
  4. I think it could be, if we take Hottovy at his word.
  5. And that is all the more reason we need Moore.
  6. I generally agree. But with Boras it might take longer than the next couple of days.
  7. I probably shouldn’t have responded to you. I was simply adding another high ranking pitching prospect of the Cubs. I realize you post said since Peior. All I am saying is Prior and Wood were higher rated prospects. I was agreeing with you on Prior and adding another top guy. And while Wood might not have been hyped as Prior coming up, only took 3 or 4 starts in the majors for Chicago to lose their minds over him.
  8. I think Moore is going to be a Cub. He could be the lefty pen arm.
  9. Right. Wood wasn’t as hyped as Prior but still probably a higher prospect than Horton is now. As you said he was 3rd when he came up. Horton is top 25 ish and 3rd highest pitcher. BTW, not taking anything away from Horton. I am excited to have him. But Cubs have had a few higher ranked pitching prospects.
  10. Wood??? I think he would be over Horton too. Maybe not, but he was pretty special too. I know Peior was after Wood. Just wondering why Wood isn’t mentioned by others.
  11. With this signing Jed can honestly say he was his first realistic choice and that is why it took so long for a first move. I would expect more to follow soon”ish”.
  12. And he walked over 5 guys per 9 innings. He was not very good last year. Probably why the Marlins might consider trading him. If he were a Cub people would be complaining about how wild he was or how he can only go 5 innings because he throws so many pitches. Unless he could harness his control a little he will always be a guy with great stuff and average results.
  13. Cabrera averages over 5 walks per 9 innings. His whip last year was over 1.44. Maybe he is a 3. That isn’t that valuable. And Bell sucks. With all due respect you tend to overvalue players who are not on the Cubs.
  14. That deal isn’t nearly as one sided as you suggest. Bell has negative value with that salary and his ground ball rate. He sucks. I would rather play Mervis at 1st. Sure, Cabrera is decent, but he isn’t that valuable either. Maybe Killian doesn’t get the deal done with Mervis, but I wouldn’t give much more than him. Maybe Thompson. Marlins cut payroll. That is their motive. Cubs get Cabrera. That is their motive. As for Bell and Mervis, I think the Marlins get the better option and definitely get the better value.
  15. I officially want him. Cubs can’t keep kicking rhe can down the road with the “oh well” we will get the next one. Time to join the off season.
  16. I agree a trade is more likely. Not sure Montgomery goes to Texas, but I don’t think he comes here.
  17. Pretty sure you know it isn’t all 4.
  18. Maybe, but they need a left handed bat. And I am not sure they want to lock up 3rd base for 5 years. Bellinger. At least, gives them multiple positions he could play. I fuesss if they went Chapman then traded for a lefty bat(Naylor) that could work.
  19. I agree with all of this. But it is a dangerous game Jed is playing. Only takes one team for each guy to mess up his plan. Only takes one team to pull the trigger on a trade and get the guy the Cubs are targeting but are waiting to see how FA turns out before making a trade. If it works they will have a nice team going into 24’. Won’t be the Dodgers or the Braves, but it doesn’t have to be. Just has to be good enough to win the central.
  20. This has been a ridiculous off season up until now. But really if the Cubs FO is interested in Hoskins, Bellinger and/or Chapman you would expect it to drag on. Boras clients tend to do that. Add that to waiting on Imanaga and you have nothing happening. The lack of Cubs activity tells me those are the guys Jed is targeting. Because the only other option would be Jed just doesn’t care to improve the team this year. And I don’t believe that. Things will happen, but it will be on Boras’ time line.
  21. Yep. Not aging well. Took a shot.
  22. I think that is the intent of the Cubs FO. The problem is they might not be willing to pay the cost in the way of young talent to bring in a TOR starter any more than they are willing to pay the market rate for a TOR FA starting pitcher.
  23. Bauer isn’t even considered by anyone IMO. I wasn’t sure about Clevenger.
  24. Fair point on Clevenger. Not sure he is as bad as Bauer, however. I am sure his biggest issue is not his ability to pitch.
