  1. Oh, ok. I didn’t miss that. I thought he had suggested a specific amount on a deal. I still don’t think the Cubs end up with him. Which is fine as long as they pivot and add talent elsewhere.!
  2. On a one year deal he would be a solid bench bat. OPS+ of 114 last year. Not going to get a better back up first baseman than that. And not on a minor league contract.
  3. I wouldn’t be opposed to that.
  4. I think that 5 year amount is very high, especially with player friendly options. And if he has anything close to that he would have signed. I think the best offer he got was the original from the Astros, 6/$156. I also think if he has something at that amount the Cubs would be out by now. And maybe they are.!
  5. I really wish Bregman would just decide so the Cubs can go about the rest of the off season. I honestly think they are a far better team not signing him but then using that money elsewhere. Maybe they do overpay for Cease. I don’t really like the idea but I have to admit they would be very good this year. Maybe Assad or Wicks and then Cassie and either Canario or a young minor leaguer gets it done. Then sign a few bench bats. If that doesn’t get Cease, maybe it gets King. Either would work. Or maybe Seattle offers Kirby or Gilbert up. But they would cost more because they come with control. If the Cubs did get a starter to break up Steele and Imanaga they would have a very nice rotation. Pen appears solid and their everyday line up is good. Clear favorite in the central and a real threat in the playoffs. Other pitchers what could work would be Ober, Ryan, or Lopez of the Twins. I think spending that money on a rotation piece is more valuable than spending it on Bregman, especially if they then have to trade Nico.
  6. Maybe this is what Peller is waiting on. Injuries in a rotation on a team who expects to win next year might make a team desperate Not sure Assad moves that needle for the Cubs.
  7. What did they give up for 2 years of Cease? They can’t get more than they gave up.
  8. And that is exactly how he should go about it. But make the annual the highest. I have no issues with this. Just wish he would made up his mind.
  9. I agree with the first two. But the bean counters are just people talking realistically. You can’t talk about what the Cubs SHOULD do and not discuss the budget. Otherwise you are not being realistic.
  10. As I said, there can be one but then not also Assad or Wicks. And if they do get more, I hope it is from someone else. They don’t pay that much for Cease for 2 years. If that’s Peller being reasonable IMO they will just have them all year and lose then for nothing except a draft pick comp for the QO. If he is ok with that, fine.
  11. How long before the Padres get reasonable about Cease or King? And when they do what shoukd the cost be? I feel if the Cubs gave them either Wicks or Assad they shouldn’t also have to give one of their top prospects. Maybe a younger guy with high risk high reward. Maybe Canario? That is losing a pitcher for one year and getting BOR maybe MOR starter for at least 4 years. And you get some young talent. And it is saving them money. If someone offers more, that is on them. I don’t feel the Cubs have to lose Cassie, Alcantara or even Triantos in this sort of deal. Now, if they don’t want Assad or Wicks I can understand why they would want a better prospect. But not both a major league pitcher and top prospects.
  12. I live in Az too. I get to about 4 or 5 spring games a year. This year only 3 because of them leaving in the middle for Japan.
  13. 🤷 I would be fine if they made that decision. But then sign a bench bat or two and leave open a possibility then padres get reasonable about either King or Cease.
  14. To be fair, except for the city he goes to, it won’t even be a story today, compared to the Super Bowl coverage that is going on today. I also doubt he will sign today because he probably wants to be the big story if the day. That will not be the case today.
  15. I would be shocked if it was 2 bats and a pitcher added. I hope you are right, but I doubt it. For one, they don’t need another pitcher. They signed Rea. I think he is the guy. And their pen is set with back ups as well. Maybe 2 bats, but to me that is a stretch. BTW, I don’t like Rea as the guy, but I don’t see the Dbacks buying enough Montgomery’s contract to make a trade work, and unless Peller gets reasonable they aren’t t getting Cease or King. Again, I hope I am wrong and you are right.
  16. If they come out of this with at least one solid bench bat then no harm no foul waiting on Bregman. Guess that would be Canha?
  17. Nicely done. I have tried doing this several times only to delete it. But, in your cons you suggest the bench would be weaker. Would it? If they don’t get Bregman but this goes on a little further, what is available still? They still might roll with what they have. Plus, maybe a Hoerner trade brings a decent bench bat and a prospect. 🤷 My biggest issue with this Bregman debate is they miss chances in upgrading while waiting on a decision. If they never got into the Bregman talks maybe they already add to their bench. Maybe they aim higher in the pen. Maybe instead of Rea they sign a better starting pitcher. Now, we are getting close to the Bregman or bust. There are still some decent bench bats out there, but it is dwindling. Maybe had they never discussed Bregman they would already have Moncada and Grichik for the bench, instead of Berti and whoever else they have. If I had to guess I would think they will lose out on Bregman and sign one bat for the bench. Be about $25M under the first line and go to the season. Still a good off season. Still a division favorite. But it could have been so much better.
  18. Thank you. I honestly wasn’t sure.
  19. Since you posted this I wanted to ask, is this true or you just being sarcastic? I took it as you being sacrastic. But others have responded to you as if it was real. Did they offer him $3M?
  20. Ownership has said it is fine going to the second line. They have said it several times when discussing Bregman. They also have made offers to him, even before trading Pressley. While it may be your opinion they are not in on Bregman there is a lot of stories suggesting they are very much in on him. I am sure they are a player in Bregman.
  21. 3rd base with Devers moving to first. Same place if they traded for Arenado.
  22. What would be awesome is if this organization didn’t get all hung up on the LT BS. Sign him and keep Nico. And if they need help at the deadline get it. For that matter, sign him, keep Nico and trade for either Cease or King NOW. That is what a big market should do. If the Astros signed Bregman they would be getting close to the next level in LT. Yet, they are still in it. Haven’t heard anyone suggest they are not because of fear of the FIRST LT line. Dbacks sign Burnes when they already had a rotation in place and are not a large market. Yet I don’t hear anything about them and their payroll. Then there is the large market Cubs. Put on your damn big big pants, stop playing the fans for fools and build a team that could win a WS. And if it cost $255M for the roster, than that is the cost.
  23. You can. I agree. But the teams trying to dump salary seem to also want major league talent back. Doesn’t make sense. But the Padres don’t want to trade Cease or King just for prospects. Seattle isn’t interested either. I keep going back to Phillies and Yankees. If the Cubs and SD are satisfied with each saving maybe $3M in salary does Nico to NY, King to the Cubs and Schmidt to SD make sense? Maybe SD throws a prospect to someone. .
  24. Which team is taking on Haniger? The point of dealing Nico is too also lower salary. So that isn’t the Cubs. The point of moving King is too also lower lower salary so that isn’t the Padres. You may call it nitty gritty details but they are details that would make this impossible to complete.
