Ben can barely give them 3 or 4 decent innings these days, even that remains to be seen. He's the one young guy who's development (or lack thereof) has been pretty disappointing

I wouldn't begrudge the Cubs at all if they consider Owen untouchable in a trade, given how he's raking. He's a massive insurance piece in case Tucker decides to leave. Heck, if they found a way to plug him into LF next year and keep Tucker, I think this team is set offensively for a while.

I didn't have Long and Gallagher on my list. Basically every person I mentioned is a current cubs top 10 prospect. You think Ballesteros is a scrub? He will be a good big leaguer and he's near MLB ready. Ballesteros + Wiggins + Ben Brown and maybe even a 4th piece is a pretty damn competitive offer.

I'd do it for Ryan. And the Cubs definitely have enough ammunition to get him without giving up Caissie. Wiggins, Ballesteros, Brown, Birdsell, Triantos, Hernandez - the Twins can pick 3 from that list and I think they'd walk away happy, so would the Cubs.

This is kind of how I feel. I still am leaning towards getting Saurez because I fear that potential matchup against the Phillies trio of lefties in the playoffs. And it wouldn't be the worst thing for Shaw to learn behind a vet for half a season. But damn, is the kid making it a tough call with his play lately.

I think they could roll with Shaw if they got Ryan/Gore and then go bargain shopping for a reliever. But I would still give them an A in that scenario. Shota, Boyd, Gore/Ryan, and Taillon is as good as any 4 in the NL except probably the Phillies and Dodgers. -
My eye test disagrees. Assad has 3 consecutive seasons with an ERA under 4, a feat that Cabrera might do for the first time this year, even though they are the same age and Cabrera has more big league experience. Assad has had a better career FIP and ERA+ than Cabrera going into this season. It also seems generally agreed upon that Assad is one of those guys who's ERA can outpace his FIP by a decent margin because he doesn't give up a lot of home runs (at least, until 2024, although I wonder how much his injury(s) that year played a part) A lot of pitchers have weird home/road splits. Kyle Hendricks dealt with that for a number of seasons his entire career. Yes, his baseball savant page will never compare to Cabrera, who has better stuff. But I'm all about results. I could get behind a Cabrera trade but to me, he's much more in that Assad/Taillon camp than he would be Shota/Steele/Boyd. For me, I think they need to get a true TORP. The opportunity is there.

I've heard chatter about the Cubs looking at 2 starters, like a big fish and then someone like Houser. I think Cade's recent performance puts all that talk to rest. Just get 1 big fish like Ryan and this rotation is really damn good when Taillon gets back
