  1. Am I reading this correctly that the Dodgers are paying some of Brasier’s $4.5M? Even more evidence Jed is saving every penny to make Bregman work if so
  2. As I said in the Bregman thread, feels like this only adds to the Bregman smoke. Cheaper option than Robertson that gives you more room if the reported $30M AAV is accurate.
  3. This was my exact thought as well. Cheaper than Robertson which gives a little more wiggle room to sign Bregman.
  4. We can’t have it both ways. Mad they won’t sign enough good players and mad when they try to sign a good player you don’t want. Maybe this is Jed saying “I have extra money to spend, why sit on it when I can go get a really good player?” Maybe Preller isn’t budging off Shaw for Cease and that’s just not a realistic possibility. Adding Bregman makes us better than we are today. Period. You can’t argue that. I will not fault Jed for making moves that make this ball club better. I hope he gets it done. As 1908 said, then you have time to see if Shaw is ready and potentially move Nico for pitching over the next couple of months.
  5. Not sure what to make of this. Just another tidbit of info to consider. Feels like we should know one way or another soon. I’ve never bought into we are serious suitors. I would be lying if I said a tiny part of me isn’t holding out some hope though. Would love to add Bregman. You don’t even HAVE to move Nico if you get him. Shaw can start at 2B until Nico is ready. Gives you time to see what he can do. If he struggles, good thing you signed Bregman… if he hits, figure out a way to keep him in the lineup. There will be other injuries and opportunities for him to play regularly.
  6. It’s always felt like Houston for Bregman. I bet Detroit had a serious offer, but just hasn’t felt like he wanted to go there. The other teams mentioned feel like leverage plots to make Houston up their offer. We will see.
  7. I guess I manifested that lol
  8. If the Cubs and Padres can’t come to a reasonable Cease deal, why not just shoot for Flaherty since he’s willing to accept a short “prove it” type deal. He’s obviously not as good, but would still be a nice option to add to the rotation. Probably eliminates us from Bregman, but I doubt that’s going to happen regardless. You could probably grab Flaherty and say Robertson and be good. Maybe they still need another bench bat?
  9. I’m far from a prospect hugger, but Shaw for one year of Cease is just delusional. I don’t blame Preller for starting there, hell it’s where I would start, but I’m sure he’s aware that’s not happening. It’s not even worth discussing.
  10. I’m with @Bertz in that I think Bregman just does not want to go to Detroit period. Also I wouldn’t get caught up in Shaw. The Cubs aren’t moving him unless it’s some crazy obvious move that gets you a star under control for multiple years. Otherwise he’s staying. From all accounts they obviously love Shaw and he’s almost untouchable.
  11. Sorry guys, not sure why that posted 24 times lol
  12. Heyman said it in his live show he does. I think it’s on Bleacher Report, but not entirely sure. I rarely watch it because I always come away feeling like he’s just throwing hypotheticals out.

  16. 1) I don’t buy we are serious suitors for Bregman. Just doesn’t feel like a Jed move all things considered 2) Hypothetically if we did sign Bregman, and if the interest is serious, I think Jed would all but have a deal agreed upon to send Nico elsewhere for pitching 3) Nico is already at camp fielding balls. I don’t think he’s throwing yet, but he’s going through drills. So I doubt there were any setbacks further than what was expected
  17. Heyman reported earlier Cubs and Astros were the finalist for Bregman. I’ve never really thought we were serious suitors for him this whole time. So every time these reports come out, it’s a little surprising. Maybe they are just continuously using the Cubs as leverage so he gets what he’s after in Houston.
  18. It’s solid. But you would be buying King who turns 31 in his first year of the deal, Framber who would be 33 at the start of his contract, Gallen will turn 31 in August of his first year. A bunch of guys that will be good initially but aging quickly. Without diving into it, not sure what happened to Bichette in 2024. Appears it was injury plagued, but he was pretty bad when he played. Vladdy is apparently turning down $300+M from Toronto. So he either hates Toronto, or he thinks he can push $400m in free agency. Toronto is always seemingly in the running for these stars, but they never choose Toronto. Vladdy is an elite bat, but he’s pushing DH only. The glove isn’t good at 3rd or 1st. Thats a ton of money to pay a DH and yes this is coming from somebody who wanted to give Soto $500M (yes I know he signed for much more than that). Still a solid FA class though as you said.
  19. Brandon Birdsell is a BORP that should be close to helping, no?
  20. I like that. Get a proven back end of the bullpen reliever for a current JAG prospect and $8M. Add Robertson/Stanek and pen is in a good spot.
  21. Don’t think it’s been reported yet
  22. Thought I saw Yates got $13M per
