  1. Nightengale says Cubs are targeting Keller and would give up Caissie for him ETA: I would assume they wouldn’t do Caissie for Keller straight up, but only if it included Bednar also?
  2. I’m not giving up Rojas or Bally for Suarez. Not with Shaw seemingly figuring it out. Plus Matt’s defense is legit at 3rd which provides great value by itself. The more I think about it, the more I lean towards not trading for Suarez. I won’t be mad if they do, but I’m just not sure that’s where our resources are best spent
  3. Such a dilemma with riding with Shaw or trading for Suarez. Glad I’m not making that decision. I mean obviously if the baseball gods promised Jed that post ASB Matt Shaw would play this way ROS, he likely doesn’t make that trade. But what if Shaw is just on a heater and can’t really sustain this level of play? Again, tough decision and I don’t know where I stand. If we did get Suárez, I agree that Shaw should stay up and be a super utility player and still get a good bit of playing time. Deepens the bench and provides insurance in case of injury. I’m absolutely not making the move for Suarez if Caissie, Wiggins, or Bally is involved. Also while I’m posting, shoutout Cade Horton. He looks great. I hate that there is potentially a massive innings decrease in his future because he’s rolling, but regardless it’s good to see him looking the part of future TORP.
  4. I think everybody needs to take a deep breath and relax. The Cubs are in a bit of a rut right now. It’s part of the ebbs and flows of a baseball season. The Sox have been playing well lately. The Brewers have been scorching hot, but have now lost 2/3 and scored a total of 1 run in those 2 losses. I mean the Blue Jays have the best record in baseball and only have 2 more wins than the Cubs. The sky is not falling. We are fine. It’s a good team that’s about to get better in the next few days. The Cubs have as good of a chance as anybody of winning the World Series. There is no dominant team in baseball this year. There’s about 9 teams who are all pretty similar. I think it’s going to be a super fun sprint to the end of the season and playoffs.
  5. Incase anybody cares what Dom has to say. Never know if he has legit info or not, but I do know him and Ian Happ are friends so who knows
  6. I understand why he made the move. You’re not getting anything for Mervis outside of a lottery ticket. Might as well take a chance on a former top prospect from not that long ago and see if you can make something happen. I’m with everybody else in that I hope we upgrade his roster spot at the deadline.
  7. So I did and Edward Cabrera has been better since 2023 lol. Also Edward is 27 and having his best season yet. He’s figuring it out. The stuff is really good. I’d love to get him into our organization and see what else we can unlock that Miami probably can’t.
  8. I just think you’re being unrealistic here. I mean sure, I imagine they would like to be 2 deep at every single position, but it’s just not happening. You’re asking for a upgrade at backup CF, upgrade over Berti and Brujan, 2 SP, 2 relievers… that’s like adding 7 players at the deadline and depleting your farm system and any depth you might have behind the big names at the top. I’ve never seen a team add 6-8 players at the deadline (not talking about prospects, I’m talking about a team going for it and adding 6-8 MLB quality players). Maybe it has happened before, but none that I recall.
  9. PCA is never going to sit (outside of a day off) due to his defense at a premium position.
  10. I think you are making this a bigger deal than it really is. It’s not much difference hitting 5th than it is 6th or 7th. Even if Craig moved him further down, we are basically asking should he hit below Dansby and Happ. I just don’t think that will make a major difference. Obviously Craig doesn’t either.
  11. From my Alma Mater. I’m a baseball season ticket holder there. Never was really high on Connor. Just one of those guys that seems to always work himself into jams. Mid 90’s fastball that without looking at the numbers, I’d bet he threw 50% of the time. Was our closer. I mean he’s solid. Definitely some tools to work with, but nothing earth shattering here.
  12. Would rather not draft a DH (Fischer) with our 1st round pick. I wrote this in the other thread, but he’s also a locker room cancer. Heard this from multiple players on the Ole Miss team. He was not liked at all. Hope the Cubs stay away honestly.
  13. Yeah I get that. I just hope that with the lack of high end arms available that we don’t have to get into a prospect bidding war for a middle of the pack SP because he’s the best of a lot of mediocre options. I agree with what you’re saying about if they do move Bally, it’s likely because they see him as nothing more than a DH which really hurts his value. We will see what happens. I try not to get too attached to prospects. I’m excited for the TDL. Should be fun for us. Cubs will be really active.
  14. I’ll just put this here, but I really hate to lose Bally in a trade. Love his pure hit tool. I know he doesn’t really have a position, but he’s a favorite of mine. I’m not a prospect hugger and I’m not saying he’s untouchable, just that I would be sad to see him go this deadline if it happens. Only other player that would disappoint me to trade would be Wiggins because of the upside. I’d be fine moving anybody else.
  15. I’ve always assumed PTR would open his wallet to supplement a winning team whereas he’s less likely to try to just go out and buy a winning team if that makes sense. I could see him upping the payroll a bit next year since most of the core group is back (hopefully this includes Kyle) and should be a major contender.
  16. Thought I saw a reputable reporter report Bubic could be on the table. He’s intriguing
  17. Totally forgot he was a switch hitter. Oops. But even if he is hurt, he had a 87 wRC+ and a -0.3 fWAR last year. He’s no better than what we currently have
  18. Signing Candy would be pointless. He can’t hit or play the field. I’d rather have Shaw playing every day. At least with Shaw you’re getting good defense. You can’t platoon Candy with Busch either because both are LHH.
  19. He said a “good young veteran SP” and had a tidbit about a 3B potentially in the same deal. That very clearly screams Gallen and Suarez to me. Gallen needs fixing though. I’d be happy to take on that talent, but he’s been getting shelled this year. Sign me up for Suarez though. Think he got removed from the game tonight after a HBP in the hand/arm area. Hope it’s nothing serious.
  20. Twins still only 2 back in the WC. Could be enough to keep them from selling. Especially somebody like Ryan with multiple years
  21. I mean the big dogs will be coming after Tucker regardless. At the end of the day, Ricketts has to pay up. Either they will and Tucker signs here because he enjoyed his year here, or he doesn’t because Ricketts wouldn’t pay or Kyle prefers to be elsewhere. On one hand, this makes the Sox players for Kyle, but on the other, it potentially eliminates another big market team in San Fran.
  22. Why do people think this after the trade? Genuinely asking. Devers relationship with Boston was irreparable. That’s the only reason they moved him imo
  23. I like Bodine, but this might say more about college umps than his framing abilities lol. As somebody who watches a ton of college baseball, to say the umpiring is horrific would be an understatement
