  1. At one point, late in the offseason, the Phillies had the 3rd best odds to sign Harper. I wouldn’t discount Vegas odds, but I also wouldn’t let them worry me too much.
  2. Sorry. I didn’t mean those predictions were necessarily crazy. I meant there are some on his timeline that are pretty wild. I posted what I did because in half of his tweets he’s saying the Blue Jays for Ohtani, then in this one he predicts Ohtani to the Dodgers. Which is why I said he’s all over the place. Also, he seems like a super big Blue Jay fan who struggles with the English language. I’m not sure what he says is exactly what he means. For example, on the initial tweet, he commented below saying that he said it was his prediction, but nowhere in the initial tweet did he say it was his prediction.
  3. Going through his timeline, this dude is ALL over the place and has some crazy takes. Under the initial tweet, he responded with that was his “prediction.” I put zero credence into anything this guy says.
  4. I’m also wondering if the Cubs would like to strike a semi big deal soon before Ohtani signs to show him we are serious about adding around him and going all in with him should he choose us.
  5. Heyman says Ohtani *could* sign next week. Well duh Jon. I swear he just says stuff that’s likely true and leaves himself an out incase it ain’t true because he doesn’t really know.
  6. Morosi reporting Cease could be dealt before next week. Only mentioned the Braves as finalist. I’m sure they aren’t the only team, but they seem to be the favorites
  7. Right. Like they’ve been in discussion for days/weeks but they are just now discussing names? Lol no. Names were thrown out on the first phone call.
  8. IF Jed is set on pivoting to Soto should he miss on Ohtani, I doubt he just lets Soto go to the Yankees while he waits out Ohtani. I’d bet he tells SD to hold tight a few more days to see what happens with Ohtani first. At this point, Jed knows what it will take to get Ohtani, how close he is to deciding, and if he has a realistic shot to land him. I’m sure he also knows what it would take to get Soto as well. I’ll trust his judgment here assuming that he does want to do whatever it takes to walk away with one of Soto/Ohtani.
  9. Especially if the Yankees are truly out on Ohtani.
  10. Is that a new report or the same one this morning about Beiber and Glasnow?
  11. Tigers signed Kenta Maeda to a 2 year deal. I’m just glad to see that at least one GM has woke up from his Thanksgiving food coma. I was starting to get worried
  12. I don’t know man… I just think you’re reaching a little bit here. A lot of “ifs” and “maybes.” The fact is, Morel will never get better at 3rd if he doesn’t play there. He barely has played it in the minors and they didn’t play him there in the majors. I think it’s as simple as if they thought he could play it, then he would have by now. He hasn’t. That tells me what I need to know about how they view Morel at 3rd.
  13. Words are just words though. Until they actually show they will play him at 3rd, then they are just… words. Jed isn’t going to publicly say “Morel just isn’t good enough to play 3rd.” There is no literal upside to saying that. He had a golden opportunity to play him there this year and he chose to play a career 2b with a weak arm there instead.
  14. Spencer Strider is a fastball / slider guy 91% of the time.
  15. If they thought he could play 3rd, then that’s where he would have played. He didn’t even play there in AAA hardly (9 games) before he got called up this season. It’s obvious they don’t think he can play the position. If he’s awful defensively there, then the bat isn’t good enough to provide much value at all. He’s better served to DH. They are trying to tell us without actually telling us that he can’t play there. Obviously I’m not in the room, I’m just going by the facts we currently have. They very well might have a plan to play him there next season. But until they actually do it, I’m going to assume that just isn’t in the plans for Morel.
  16. Nobody is saying “give Morel away for whatever you can get.” He’s more valuable to a team where he can play 2B than he is for the Cubs playing DH. If he can be a headliner for a Soto or Bichette type trade, or for a young SP, then yes, absolutely trade him. If he’s on the Chicago Cubs in 2024, nobody is going to be mad. I’m not sure where you’re getting this whole “Morel is undervalued” schtick.
  17. We have enough money to spend and prospect capital that we shouldn’t be creating a hole to fix another (i.e. trading Steele). Morel is a different story. He doesn’t have a position, but has more value to other teams than he does for us. So if he gets traded, I’m okay with that one. I just don’t think there’s many, if any, scenarios where trading a guy like Steele or Hoerner makes sense.
  18. I mean there’s this, but surely nobody believes this? It’s not real lol
  19. Not happening and even if it did, that’s not enough.
  20. Pipe dream. Makes zero sense for the Royals. Look at it from their perspective… they have PLENTY of time to try and build around him and win before they have to make the decision to trade him. They also refused to trade Merrifield when everybody wanted him and they had no path to winning and for whatever reason held on to him until he lost all his value really.
  21. Not a guy we’ve been connected to yet, but a guy that makes sense with the Counsell connection and obvious need.
  22. Same haha
  23. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the Mets just because he said that. Interesting though. Definitely has my antennas up
  24. Before we make this a big deal, we can just agree to disagree to save both of us time going back and forth. I think one thing and you think another. I think, as long as no wrenches are thrown into it (like shorter term higher AAV), then Ohtani is going to pick where he signs based on where he wants to be and not because somebody outbid the other by 20, 30, 40 whatever million dollars. I think the money is going to be basically the same by all the finalist.
  25. You used Bogaerts as an example, not me. For players like Bogaerts, there is most definitely a cutoff going into their free agency where you’re just not comfortable going there. We agree Ohtani is different. Teams that are seriously interested in signing Ohtani aren’t going to back out over $50M. If LA offers Ohtani $500M and Ohtani tells Jed to match it and he will come to Chicago, do you think Jed/Tom is going to say “no thanks, enjoy LA?” Absolutely not. That’s much more likely to happen with a player like Bogaerts, Swanson, Machado caliber players. If you want Ohtani, you automatically know that it’s likely costing you $4-500M. You’re not backing out on him due to, what’s at that point, not that much money… $50M over 10 years is not that big of a deal. Definitely not enough to pass on Ohtani.
