  1. That seems like a steep horsefeathers price for a guy that can’t play defense and isn’t even proven with the bat at the big league level yet.
  2. At this point I’m finding it hard to believe the Cubs will field a team better than the 2023 team who also wasn’t good enough to make the playoffs. Better hope some of our prospects are ready fast. Or some big trade happens that we don’t see coming. It doesn’t feel like we get Imanaga. It does feel like we are able to work something out for Bellinger, but even that isn’t close to enough. I’ve kind of been watching from afar since the Dodgers have done literally everything I wish the Cubs would have done.
  3. Didn’t even think about the specifics when I rattled off those names. You’re right… PCA would be blocked in that scenario. I was just meaning there’s just not much we can do at this point to move the needle. We don’t appear to be in on Yamamoto. There’s no real impact bats available via trade or free agency outside of Bellinger I guess.
  4. So best case scenario we grab Bellinger and Hoskins and trade for Bieber, we’re what… a ~84 win team? Riveting offseason. Truly. Zzzzzzzz
  5. I’m so tired of the Cubs letting me down year after year lately. It’s been so boring. Okay Swanson was cool. Sure. Fine player. But come on now… I’m starting to think we will never act like a major market team and flex our muscles. Who is the problem? Jed? Ricketts? Is Jed scared of his own shadow? Scared to give out a big contract? Scared to make a power move like the Dodgers just did with Glasnow because he might get hurt again and it will financially cripple the team from spending? Seriously act like a big market team and IF he did get hurt, just throw some more money at somebody else that’s healthy. I guess we will trade for a declining Beiber (maybe) and sign Hoskins and party in the streets! sorry I’m admittedly a little emotional. Just kind of fed up with this Cubs team. There’s just nothing left that really moves the needle. Bellinger I guess, but I’m concerned whether or not he’s truly who he’s was in 2023 moving forward.
  6. I’m not even mad we didn’t get him after seeing what he got. We wouldn’t spend another penny for the next 23 years if we gave him that much
  7. Does San Diego have any leverage though? They literally almost HAVE to trade him. They cant afford to make payroll. I’m not saying they will end up taking a bag of balls for him, but I also think inquiring teams know they hold the leverage, not San Diego. They are obviously going to come out swinging for the fences and once everybody is done laughing at them, they will likely get more realistic.
  8. Lol we went from getting nobody to back in it for everybody! Woohoo
  9. I know what Ohtani said, but I give this less than a 1% chance of mattering. If Ohtani thinks the Dodgers are where he wants to be, this comment from Dave Roberts isn’t going to change his mind.
  10. I’ve remained optimistic because of the fact that Ohtani wanted everything to remain quiet. Every negative report I’ve just shrugged it off as “yeah, but nobody actually knows anything because nobody is talking.” Now that Roberts (the manager of a team that we KNOW is 100% still in it for Ohtani) admits they’ve met with Ohtani, I think that’s pretty much it. Maybe everything isn’t some great big secret like we were lead to believe originally. Maybe all the reports are correct. I’m starting to accept we aren’t getting him. Major letdown. I question where things went so wrong that we haven’t even had a face to face meeting with him? Granted it could have happened and just hasn’t been reported, but some sort of rumor has leaked for every team that’s in this thing that they’ve met with him, except for the Cubs. Either we are great at keeping secrets, or it never happened.
  11. Right. Ohtani doesn’t want it out there, so obviously you do nothing to jeopardize the situation… you simply say “personal reasons, not related to Ohtani.”
  12. I don’t know if I can survive another hour
  13. We have a team full of solid players. Chapman is just another solid player. We need star power. Chapman is decent with the bat, great with the glove. The bat likely is going to get worse as he continues to age, and there’s not much margin for error there. Soon he will be an all glove 3b. Hard pass on him, especially at the numbers being thrown out for him.
  14. Interesting. I wonder if he’s a backup plan to Ohtani or if they will go hard after him either way?
  15. If I hadn’t taken multiple vacations this year, I would absolutely go. I’ve thought about it. I’m only a few hours from Nashville. I just think it would be a cool experience as a baseball fan regardless if I get to see or meet anybody notable. I’ve already spent my vacation budget for the year though lol
  16. I guess he’s technically right since we haven’t done a whole lot the last handful of years, but it seems like Jesse pours cold water on everything always.
  17. Agreed totally. There’s nothing wrong with kicking the tires and just seeing what the framework of a deal would look like. Maybe Jed is thinking “no way. Soto absolutely won’t extend and if I want him that bad, I’ll just get him in free agency next year for only money.” I still think for a team that needs stat power bats, that you’re doing a disservice for not at the very least checking in on one of the best young bats in the game. & maybe he has checked in and isn’t comfortable with the asking price for a 1 year rental, but I’m not sure I totally believe he’s done his due diligence here.
  18. I agree. I don’t trust Heyman’s reporting anyways. He’s really the only national reporter that’s talking about Ohtani. Considering the 100% fact that Ohtani and his people don’t want any leaks, I just don’t believe anything Heyman says, especially considering he’s constantly making updates. But this is just so random, that like how could you make it up? I don’t know… I just need Ohtani to decide one way or the other quickly because I’m hanging on to any update at this point and it’s driving me crazy lol
  19. Look I’m far far far from qualified to run a MLB team, but I’m smart enough to know that you don’t sign the best player in baseball and then turn around and trade 2 cheap young star players that are multiple years away from free agency. It’s not like the Blue Jays are a small market team either that don’t have money to spend. That actually blows my mind. That can’t be real.
  20. Why would you sign Ohtani and turn around and trade your 2 young stars? Why would you let that get out if you’re serious about signing Ohtani? I just don’t understand that.
  21. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, rival teams expect Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to hit the trade block if general manager Ross Atkins is able to sign Ohtani. However, trades involving Bichette and Guerrero Jr. are considered unlikely if the Blue Jays can't bring in the reigning AL MVP.
  22. Heyman just released his Friday rumors article. Nothing new really. Re Ohtani: “Cubs and Giants are thought to be in big” along with the Dodger. He also said we are still looking at Belli but our focus is currently on Ohtani.
  23. Especially if he cares about winning like what’s been reported. The Rays are pretty consistently good. The Orioles have arrived and aren’t going away any time soon. The Yankees are the Yankees and seem to be making moves. The Red Sox are the Red Sox. I’m with you.. if it’s the Dodgers, fine. I get it. But we have a much easier path to perennial playoff team than the Jays.
  24. At one point, late in the offseason, the Phillies had the 3rd best odds to sign Harper. I wouldn’t discount Vegas odds, but I also wouldn’t let them worry me too much.
