  1. I think they want to give him a full year at AAA to see what he can do.
  2. Mike Karuki
  3. i don't think they spend big this offseason, i think they want to know what they have and they think that they have another season to experiment.
  4. I think Beal and Kidd-Gilchrist will be better than Davis shareef abdur-rahim. he'll have a pretty nice 10-12 year career but never be a real superstar.
  5. Judging by Laurence Holmes' comments on The Score, I take it that not everyone liked and respected Marlon Byrd. He stopped short of calling Byrd a "d bag", but did sarcastically state that "it couldn't happen to a nicer guy". byrd often refuses to do interviews after games. that, and i believe when he does choose to do interviews, he's often pretty rude.
  6. and it's not like the meatballs aren't ready for disappointment. they've been clamoring for the cubs to tank 8 seasons in a row to prove that they're building the "right way" anyway. so you aren't really risking a fan mutiny, here. if anything, those people will be entertained watching the rookies, either that or they'll learn what going young actually entails
  7. but is shanghai-ing them in AAA the answer, especially when you're obviously rebuilding?
  8. if sullinger fell to 29 i'd take him in a minute
  9. Really? I see it coming. Hoyer and Theo have both said the youngsters are going to have to experience growing pains and they need to be given a longer leash, to see if they can overcome the obstacles. They've hinted at watching the them struggle and it'll be that much better once things start to click. Personally, I could see that team winning more games than this current one, but admittedly, it's out there to get a top 3 pick and huge IFA money for 2014. That team will lose 115 games and the fanbase will turn on the ownership, front office, Roast, en masse. It'd be a [expletive] disaster. although i'd love to see roast overwhelmed in a wrigley riot, there's no way that that team loses 100 games. 90, yes, 100, no.
  10. it would be better than this year and at least our prospects will actually be playing. you get 2 of the dodgers' top 5 prospects, both starting pitchers and then a ml ready reliever, turner and porcello from detroit. that's a good haul and i think it would at least be entertaining.
  11. IMO, yes if the following things are true: Headley's numbers won't improve coming out of Petco, Vitters numbers this year are mostly a sign of development and not PCL fueled, and Vitters continues to reasonably develop (no breakout, but more improvement). If all those ifs pan out, Vitters would be in Headley's neighborhood (albeit slugging based instead of OBP like Headley has been the last two years) Of course, there are serious questions if Headley can keep up a .340 BABIP as he ages as well, so Headley's offensive numbers have reasons to go up or down from his current production. i would at least try to see what we have at the major league level before trading for headley, although vitters's value may be rising significantly so as to make him an interesting trade option in any headley deal. but headley is 6 years older which is a significant gap.
  12. doesn't vitters project in headley's neighborhood offensively?
  13. mlb.tv is superior in nearly every single way.
  14. Random thoughts - Wood as a middle-rotation type in 2013? I've started to mildly turn the corner on him ... but I'm just not sure he'll be that good by next year. He's a decent arm to develop at the back end and hope he becomes a mid-rotation arm down the line. What's the quality of the young-ish starter in the majors in this hypothetical Garza deal? Because it's hard for me to imagine getting 2 quality, ready for the big arms in a Garza deal. I'm starting to question if we can land ... the equivalent of what we gave up for Garza (borderline top 50 prospect arm, a 70-100 prospect with a high ceiling, and 2 upper level assets). I think so, and all it takes is one team, but getting 2 quality upper level arms? Seems ... hopeful, and I hope you might be right. If we can't get two high quality and high upside arms for Garza, why on earth would we trade him? I seriously don't get it. In your world, we're trading Garza for someone who is not Garza, but is younger? Doesn't make sense at all.
  15. A few more days of production and he'll have two straight months of over .900 ops. Tough to just call it a hot streak at this point. Doubters! :) you mean cumulatively? his OPS in may was .884 (.284/.333/.550/.884) Yep, cumulatively. He's pretty close after the hr today. Even if he comes up a bit short of .900 for the two months, it'll still be tough to just say he's in a hot streak. do players like him move back into the top 100 after they've fallen out?
  16. Dude, he's coming up soon. Just because you aren't watching him hit a zillion home runs in a cub uniform right now this very instant doesn't mean that the cubs are being too patient with him. Jeez, give it a day or two.
  17. i doubt this is true. maybe 5th outfielder, but who cares about 5th outfielders?
  18. shark isn't much younger than garza, though
  19. i missed the part where cuban pantses skip. it wasn't a verbal drubbing. cuban was making generalities about making generalities and skip was being skip.
  20. Staal said he won't sign an extension with whatever team gets him in a trade. The feeling is he wants to sign as an UFA with Carolina. The Pens probably just keep him for their cup run and hope he changes his mind. kinda right, kinda wrong. staal traded to carolina for sutter, dumoulin, and the 8th pick which turned out to be pouliot. quite a haul for the pens, bastards.
  21. The same Josh Vitters who has 11 homers in 250 at bats at AAA? That guy? I understand the point you're making, but it's safe to say most of us will be pretty disappointed of Baez actually ended up like Vitters. I think he's a significantly better talent than him, though, so I'm not really worried about that. most of us see baez and a super-prospect and vitters as a possible real solid player that we can slot in at 3rd and expect to be league average or slightly better, yes. baez has showed a lot thus far in terms of plus plus power.
  22. not one..............
  23. well, it was fun trolling lebron lovers for a while. all good things come to an end. seriously, udonis haslem, though
