  1. theo's probably out walking his bandana'd dog or playing ultimate frisbee or using his apple computer at a starbucks. not paying attention.
  2. did every hitter in that inning swing at the first pitch? way to go you [expletive] sveum
  3. i'm saying i wouldn't expect it to stay at 2.7% in any case, whomever is in charge should be embarrassed with that development. lol reed bunting for a hit because zito is unhittable today
  4. bottom line is that hitters in a lineup can be told to adjust their approach from day-to-day. with zito, it's let him hang himself, even i know the book on him. that's about as simple of an approach that there is.
  5. i don't even know what to say to the absurdity in bold. as if pitch recognition is so easy that they can just flip a switch and get good at it at the major league level. that's not even what i'm saying, though. you don't need to have legendary pitch recognition to go up there against a guy like zito and tell the hitters to let him get himself in trouble and make him work. i don't know why i have to say that again or why it's so hard to understand. absurd indeed. he's gotten much worse, so whatever they're doing if anything, isn't working. good thing he's gotten much better at fielding under their tutelage then and is having his best year yet despite a practically unsustainably low walk rate. are you saying his walk rate is a fluke?
  6. by the way, the send that you got pissed off about earlier with hill up was in front of TRAVIS WOOD. i heard you the first time, want to say it again?
  7. the thing is, castro is a dangerous hitter that can make himself better by strategically taking pitches. his "pitch recognition" is pretty good and he's one of a few serviceable hitters in the lineup, he's not getting a ton of pitches to hit.

  9. do you think bad hitters can just be made patient? the two everyday hitters they did acquire see a lot of pitches. among the league leaders, IIRC. lahair does as well. rizzo definitely is patient. the aggressive baserunning is fine given the lack of power on this team. yes, bad hitters can be told to go up to the plate against a pitcher who has control issues and keep the bat on their shoulders, like every other team has been doing to us since forever. castro's patience is worse than it's ever been, btw, and he's one of the guys in the lineup that the pitchers are pitching around. the aggressive baserunning is maddening in front of our better hitters.
  10. we haven't gotten 1 break all century either. that ball goes over our players' head, but pagan runs it down. we're literally never the beneficiaries of things like that
  11. i don't see a significant on-field philosophy change from hendry to epstein/hoyer. i thought our players would have some sort of patience ultimatum and sveum wouldn't be allowed to do whatever it is that he wanted to do. they admittedly made a nice deal for rizzo, but beyond that, the zambrano trade was a meatball-created disaster. and they don't seem willing to accept walks, nor does sveum seem shy to send runners and bunt baseballs.
  12. This is awesome. Still sad that he has lost so much velocity but it sure beats the low 80's or wherever he was the last time he pitched for us. 90-92 isn't too far off from where he used to be. Looks like he threw 92-93 on average with his fastball according to fangraphs. I just hope that he'll pitch another 7-9 years as a shut down reliever. That would be awesome. yeah, 90-92 was about where he pitched at in chicago. his 4-seamer would top out around 94, maybe 95, and his 2-seamer was anywhere from 89-92. i still hope he ends up starting again.
  13. i don't think harvey ever had that kind of power, though. he was just a kid that was a really really good high school hitter.
  14. melky cereal baby really hitting the ball hard
  15. did you have any doubt that zito would own us?
  16. nobody else loses games like this but i seriously don't even give a [expletive] i'm going to drink tequila and smoke weed and howl at the moon right now
  17. he hung a slider in the middle of the plate
  18. he seriously says it like dejesus is some pagan god of the aborigines dayhaysoos the creator cut the universe out of a crocodile hide
