  1. Patterson was a young hitter with loads of talent that was never harnessed properly. Pierre is a player with a (bad) established way of hitting where as Corey was young enough to modify his approach. Both broke into the big leagues the same year, and Pierre is 2 years older. I don't see much of a difference. Pierre's swing is atrocious. There's no way to fix something so fundamentally screwed up. He'd have to forget everything he knows and start from scratch, and he's way too old for that. Thats ridiculous. If his swing was so bad, he wouldnt have a career .305 batting average going into this season. It's a combo of aging and a bad eye that has pierre in such a bad hole. Have you actually seen his swing? It's hideous. I have always said I have no clue how Pierre ever compiled a .300 BA with that swing.

  3. Cubs are not contenders, so Kerry in the bullpen would be pointless. Better to take that bag of balls offer and send Kerry on his way.
  4. I applaud this crappy lineup since I want the firesale to begin post haste. Keep on losing, Cubbies.
  5. Closure is a sadly appropriate word.
  6. That's why we have to hope for more losing ASAP. At this point winning is counter-productive.
  7. I don't think they need to get his attention. I don't think it's a head issue. He's just not a good ballplayer. There's not much he can do about it. Yeah he's just bad. I don't know how he ever achieved a .300 career BA with that hideous swing. Maybe he's lost a little speed. If so he's finished.
  8. WorstGamesNetwork?
  9. first of all, rusch has NO upside. none. secondly, you're kidding yourself if you think the cubs can get a "decent" prospect for a guy that would be w/o a team if not for the cubs. he's old and he has a 7.29 era. the cubs aren't getting crap for him. Don't forget a multi million dollar contract through next year. Don't forget a career 4.96 ERA. He'll have a little value because he's a lefty. If he were a righty he'd have no value at all.
  10. Is it just me or is it hilarious that Tony Womack's backup makes $2.5 million per year and is signed thru 2007?
  11. Besides his obvious faults, CLee is another RH power hitter. If you stick him with DLee and Aram it won't be very tough for opposing bullpens to take advantage. Barrett, Murton and Cedeno are RH batters too. CLee would make the offense too unbalanced towards the right.
  12. There is no chance Pierre would accept arbitration. There is still a team stupid enough to give him a multiyear deal out there. have you seen his numbers? SB is the only number that matters, and Pierre will finish with about 50. Some dumbass will be happy to pay thru the nose for that "production". Could be Jim Hendry.
  13. Lee will be a grossly overpaid salary burden for whoever gets him, so I hope he goes to the Cards.
  14. Step away from the bong. I know it's probably a futile hope, but I can dream.
  15. Makes more sense just to do away with pitchers' W-L records. Should've happened long ago. Then how would they figure out who gets the Cy Young? Actual merit?
  16. I'm still holding out hope that some bonehead GM gets desperate and offers an A prospect for Jones and Jimbo takes the deal.

  18. Kerry is finished as a rotation-only pitcher. He won't get any good offers in the offseason unless he consents to relieve if asked. Best Kerry can hope for is to be offered a chance to start, he certainly won't get any guarantees, and I really doubt his health will ever keep him in anybody's rotation for long.
  19. The bottom line is all of this is Hendry is not going to trade Jones, regardless of how he plays. Agreed. People need to stop thinking about how to trade Jacques Jones for the time being. JJ will be a Cub for at least 2 FULL years. How do you know some dumb desperate GM won't make a great offer in hopes of contending this year and saving his job?
  20. To be fair, Levine reported this morning that Hendry continues to work the phones with other GMs. I think your comment is a bit speculative. I don't think Hendry's going to rest on his laurels after this deal, but Nevin's presence could be prohibitive to deals that could improve the team now and more importantly in the future(trading for Wilson is the textbook example). This is another reason why Restovich should've gotten a shot. He may have been marginally worse at the role than Nevin, but his presence on the roster isn't going to prevent real improvements from being made. Nevin is basically a poor man's Craig Wilson. I don't see how the Cubs could use two players who are so similar. Wilson can hit RHP too, and has value beyond simply being a platoon 1B/OF, it's exactly the point. Wilson is okay vs. RHP, nothing special. If I had a team ideally I wouldn't have to play Wilson every day. I'd want to give him a substantial number of days off vs. tougher RHP and have a quality LH backup in the OF.

  22. Yeah, definitely a substantial offensive boost vs. LHP. We needed it a lot sooner though.
  23. If teams will be willing to pay a lot for him down the line, wouldn't the Cubs have to outbid all those same teams to get him now? I agree, I can't see Wilson coming too cheaply, and since we have Nevin now I'd rather save our trade bait to use on something other than Wilson. Now if the plug is pulled on the season then priorities might change.
  24. Wilson is kinda redundant to Nevin, although Wilson is better. If we do get Wilson I'm not sure how we could use Nevin except as trade bait.
