  1. Speaking of rediculious. Before the season you wanted a quick fall from contention? Wow. Why is it ridiculous? I looked at the team and didn't see a contender, and the org. needs some housecleaning anyway so yeah, let's crash fast, take out the trash, and get ready for next year. Better that than some tragically halfassed darkhorse run this year.
  2. I said before the season I wanted a quick fall from contention and I want it more than ever now. The sooner the house-cleaning and fire sale commence the better the team will be for 2007.
  3. It's more like the Captain of the Titanic surviving the wreck, and then asking him to Captain the next ship you're sending out to sea. Please note, the next ship will be built by the same guy that built the Titanic. I'd feel safer in a Zeppelin.
  4. Actually I think they do crunch numbers, but they do it incompetently. When Hendry stated last offseason that Burnitz had the 6th highest slugging percentage of any player with 120 or more strikeouts it seemed plain to me that some number-crunching staffer came up with that pearl of statisical wisdom. That's my point. They moved Chuck Wasserstrom from some PR or media relations type of job into some sort of Baseball Information analyst. At the time it was obvious the organization wanted to make it look like they were paying attention to the new wave of thinking sweeping across the league, but they didn't hire anybody who could be expected to a do a great job at it. From all accounts all the guy does is click the sortables on ESPN.com and come up with interesting, but completely worthless, trends. I didn't know about that. That does explain some things.

  6. We're going to have a bunch of 1st and 2nd year pitchers competing for spots next year. I don't want Piniella around for that.
  7. I should also add that Riot's 2 plate appearances have come in the waning moments of games that were already out of reach, so he hasn't seen any action that actually meant anything. If this is really the best idea the Cubs' brain trust could conceive to light a fire then the Cubs need new brains.
  8. As of this writing Theriot has been available for 6 games and has had 2 plate appearances. Why the hell was he called up?
  9. that's because the people that say jones sucks are not wrong. Well, we look at things differently then. When I see a player doing good, and I'd like to see Jones get his numbers up a little bit more before I say he is, I won't be afraid to say he is doing a good job whether I like him or not. That's fine. People here can make a positive thread about a player without trying to embarrass other posters and nobody would object.
  10. Dusty was busy hunting for the toothpick he threw earlier... Vedder could have calmed him down before he took the mound. lol...I think Vedders brand of "calming down" Jae Kuk is agains the MLB drug policy.... :P Yah, I thought of that after I posted.

  12. We need more stoned people in the booth during blowouts.
  13. Neifi gets a free boost to his OBP. Earning that paycheck, he is.
  14. Maybe he gained that 20 lbs. of fat for extra power.
  15. EY has really porked out since leaving the Cubs.
  16. I think we're seeing Dusty retreating into his comfort zone. To Dusty Neifi is like a teddy bear to cuddle with during a scary thunderstorm.
  17. Cheers to you. Here's hoping Dusty continues making solid game lineup decisions this season. In the end, I have no issues with dogging Dusty for placing Neifi in the two-hole last year and denying Cedeno at bats in the middle of the season. These are accurate and legitimate complaints. I'm on that bad decisions wagon. But Dusty hasn't used Neifi that way this year. Walker and Cedeno have the large majority of starts at 2B and SS respectively. Hairston and Perez have spot starts. So it seems premature for anybody to think that an injury to the starting 1B will result in the 3rd-depth-chart-2B/2nd-depth-SS suddenly gettng all the starts over the guys in front of him. OK, so back on April 20th I graciously admitted I may have been wrong about how Neifi would be used, but now it's May 14th and Neifi has started 5 of the last 7 games, so now I will ungraciously unadmit that I may have been unwrong.
  18. Including today Neifi has started 5 of the last 7 games. I'm starting to regurgitate some of the crow I ate.
  19. You should read the thread before you comment. It wasn't created to praise Jones, it was created to ridicule and embarrass other members of this forum. That's troll behavior. If I were a moderator this thread would prompt a strong warning.
  20. no, not after 20+ pages of anti-Jones sentiment. i need blood in the water. Does that mean I can call you out on saying Pierre will do fine until he does? You could if you played by his pathetic rules, but I doubt you or most of the membership here will stoop to that level. NSBB forums would be a complete waste of time if that happened.
  21. This post and this thread title absolutely reek of cubs.com. Classless, stupid, and juvenile. Maybe you should leave us and go to a message board where this type of thread is the norm and not the obnoxious exception. And guess what, Jones' numbers are only on the extreme low end of what's acceptable for his position for a whole season. He's also signed for 3 years. Kinda makes your thread look dumb.
  22. Not only was Piazza catching, but a 6'10" right-hander(Chris Young) was pitching. It is difficult to imagine a better time to steal a base.
