  1. You take DLee's big right-handed bat away, add in a slumping Aram, and the Cubs look real weak vs. LHP. We need another RH bat. Hopefully the real Aram shows up soon.
  2. Because Restovich sucks too. You could go with Hairston in RF and Neifi on 2B, which is what I would do. I wouldn't do anything involving Neifi...unless it was releasing him. Jones is not a better hitter than Neifi vs. LHP. He is probably worse. Putting Neifi on 2B at least gives you a good glove.

  4. Yesterday was especially bad because the bunt came in the 1st inning, which is often the best chance in the whole game to have a big inning. If Ronny bunted on his own initiative then Dusty ought to have a little talk with him.
  5. 0 outs, early in the game, like yesterday. It's becoming predictable. You'd think Cedeno would be happy for a juicy RBI opportunity and want to swing. I wish a reporter would ask Cedeno or Dusty whose idea these bunts are.
  6. Dusty keeps doing this. Does anybody here think it's a good idea?
  7. Yesssssss... Now Cubs are playing "smartball" and actually do something good, score a run... and people complain. Embarrassing post, on several levels.
  8. Who has given up on Williams? I think everyone here would agree that if he has a few good starts in AAA he deserves to at least be considered for a rotation spot with the big league team.
  9. Realistically I don't think Glendon will be released, given the details of his contract. Innings-eating garbage sucker is probably his destiny. That's actually a useful role, but at $3 mil. per year not so much.
  10. Actually, we might have to sacrifice this game for our 'pen. It's too early and with no off days on the horizon, he can't come out yet. I say keep him in til his arm falls off or his neck starts to hurt (I see the latter occuring first). Maybe some of the Brewers will hurt themselves while swinging out of their shoes. If you leave glendon in, it might start raining before the 5th. Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking. I would have let Glendon take one for the team.
  11. Seriously, it would be best to keep him in and hope for rain.
  12. Jock with his 1st vs. LHP, but I wouldn't get too excited since the whole league has been shellacking Davis all month.
  13. I remember not too long ago there was a thread where Dusty/Hendry supporters argued that they weren't deliberately hiding injuries because there was no good reason to do so. Now Dusty admits he does do it, and his supporters are arguing that it's smart strategy. If nothing else, I have to admire the loyalty of Dusty's fans.
  14. What do you do with Pierre in the meantime? He's absolutely worthless if he's not leading off.
  15. Don't like the steal. Let Neifi bunt Jones over and see if the PH can get the RBI single.
  16. Uh, not really. It was a 3-1 count. Who is coming up after JJ? Neifi, Blanco, Maddux. Not exactly RBI machines. I'd say it was a fine place to run. Better to let JJ swing, if he gets out then Neifi/Blanco/Maddux go down 1-2-3 the next inning and you go back to the top of the order for the inning after that.
  17. Big ball rulez. Small ball sucks. Let Ronny swing.
  18. If you have the fastest guy on the team already in scoring position I think it's time to let your #2 hitter swing away. not true...if cedeno pops out, then either walker or ramirez need to get a hit to drive him in...when cedeno moved him over, it allowed walker to drive one to the outfield, and have pierre test the OFs arms That's small-ball thinking. Not my style.
  19. If you have the fastest guy on the team already in scoring position I think it's time to let your #2 hitter swing away.
  20. That's the real doozy. Pierre's value is in stealing the base on his own. Either have him do that, or let the guy swing away. ****Please note, I'm not trying to just complain during an otherwise good game, this is just something that always perplexes me with Dusty**** Like I mentioned a minute ago though, I don't think we can dismiss the idea that it wasn't a Dusty idea, but rather a rookie trying to bunt his way on in a situation where you wouldn't really want that. I don't remember Ronny doing this when he was batting at the bottom of the order.
  21. Its a little more palatable on a day like today when you would figure runs to be at a premium. Nah, your #2 hitter should swing in the 3rd inning if he's good enough to be a #2 hitter.
  22. I hate this bunting crap, even when it works. Let Ronny swing.
  23. Murton? I wasn't aware there was a knock on him, he's been hitting fine. He's hardly been too patient, no matter what Cubs coaches say. I pretty much agree, but I do think he's been a little too patient sometimes, but that shouldn't hurt him today.
  24. Not unexpected. The knock on Matty is he's been too patient, but the small zone makes it a good day to be patient. He took two balls, then got a good pitch to hit. I bet he'll do it again.
