  1. Or he can just roll over it to the SS. That 1st bunt attempt did nothing to change my mind. Let him swing.
  2. Pierre better not bunt again. Ward is so fat and slow in RF that you have to let Pierre swing for the triple.
  3. Ortiz got another call that Kerry wasn't getting. I don't mind a small zone as long as it's consistent for both teams.
  4. Small zone today. Not a good day for a pitcher to try to bang off some rust.
  5. Ward is starting to look like Randall Simon.
  6. I don't like the ump. Ortiz got a strike that was worse than a pitch Kerry threw for a ball.
  7. Looked like the old Kerry, the good one.
  8. Daryle Ward in RF for the Nats. Slappy might get a triple if he can just get the ball out of the infield.
  9. It will be great fun to see a lineup with Neifi and Tony Womack in it.
  10. They're waxing my car right now. Want their number?
  11. I guess this means the end of the Riot is imminent. Dusty refuses to play him, so may as well replace him with a crappy 2B that Dusty will actually use.
  12. Nah, McClellan was a good detail-oriented planner and organizer, but wasn't bold enough to follow through on anything. Dusty is plenty bold, but a lousy planner who is unwilling or unable to keep track of multiple details. He's probably more of a John Bell Hood.
  13. Get real, dude. I was a huge Burnie basher even before the Cubs signed him and even I wouldn't be so bold as to claim I knew he would be this bad in 2006.
  14. wgn reported golf ball then again i had quarter and now a bunch is in my freezer I had marbles. The hail only lasted about 20 minutes though.
  15. It's obviously a lot harder than you think. When this story came out in the Chicago media 3 weeks or so ago I believe it was Ozzie who said the White Sox are happy with their guy but wouldn't want to go through it again. I think it was Kenny Williams who added, if we opened this up to an open invite to all of Chicago, I'd guarantee we'd have 1,000 try out for the job and I guarantee we'd have 1,000 fail. Think about it, if you're a guy who pitched in high school or college and you haven't stepped foot on a field and really threw in 10+ years it's not easy to consistently throw a couple hundred belt-high fastballs at 75-80 MPH. If they could, they'd probably still be playing somewhere. I played the game for a while and can't imagine how nervous I'd be pitching to Walker, Lee, Ramirez, etc. It's not that easy.... That's absurd. Any college lefty good enough to be scouted would be acceptable, certainly more acceptable than having no left-handed BP pitcher, and not all these guys are still playing somewhere.
  16. I really don't think his poor BABIP is bad luck. He's made a lot of weak contact this year and he's certainly not fast enough to leg out an infield hit. I still think he'll get it together though and start hitting the ball harder on a regular basis.
  17. Bruce, liked the article, especially the part about overpaying, but you left out Jose Macias' 2005 contract of $825K. I really think he could have been had for half a milllion less.
  18. I see at least one other person here understands the concept of opportunity cost.
  19. I still think Dusty will be extended. When the injured stars come back the Cubs will return to being a so-so MLB baseball team. They'll be good enough to squeeze out a couple of hot streaks and that's when Dusty signs.
  20. I'm kinda tired of hearing about the Astros. That was a miraculous comeback that happens once in a blue moon. Hoping and praying for miracles is not a good way to run a team. If it were then nobody would ever rebuild or even plan ahead one year.
  21. New nickname for Mark: "Tearry"?
  22. If your scenario comes true the Cubs will need to go 74-45 for the remainder of the season to finish with 90 wins. I don't see that happening with this bunch of "talent".
  23. Speaking of rediculious. Before the season you wanted a quick fall from contention? Wow. Why is it ridiculous? I looked at the team and didn't see a contender, and the org. needs some housecleaning anyway so yeah, let's crash fast, take out the trash, and get ready for next year. Better that than some tragically halfassed darkhorse run this year. Doesn't need to be that fast, as long as its done by the trading deadline. I kinda liked how the Cubs teased us with that Cardinals series. I was starting to forget why I liked baseball and the Cubs, so at least they got a chance to remind me. I'm actually looking forward to next season. A whole lot of money comes off the books and all the youngsters will be a year better. With a few good moves the Cubs will be pretty tough.
