  1. This BS from Dusty about not having "his" team is nothing new. Last year Dusty said "my teams" don't have bad fundamentals, and bitched about all the players who came up through other systems that didn't emphasize fundamentals, which is funny, because now he bitches about having too many homegrown players.
  2. You can look at it this way -- if you are a fan of the 2007 Cubs, then you will want the 2006 Cubs to lose. The 2006 team is a lost cause anyway.
  3. Hoping for losses in the current season is not being "against" the Cubs. At this point any positives brought by more winning in 2006 are far outweighed by the negatives. We'll all be a lot happier in 2007 if the losing continues in 2006.
  4. $2.5M per year over 2 years is nothing to the Yanks so it might be possible to package Neifi with Jones.
  5. Joe Girardi has a $15 million roster of 2 stars and a bunch of unknowns and his team is 5 games up on the Cubs. Does Girardi bitch about not having "his" team?
  6. Albert Pujols is not more valuable than a pitcher?
  7. It's possible Hendry has attached some importance to finishing with a .500 record and that's why no fire sale yet. I agree it's hard to believe he actually thinks the playoffs are realistic at this point.
  8. I'd rather have a guy like Theriot on the team than Neifi or Womack. I can't see a single reason why Womack is still around. Dusty doesn't even use him much anymore. Total waste of a roster spot.
  9. Is there not one person here who agrees with the official line that the Cubs are still in the race?
  10. Don't most successful teams also have a utility infielder? Utility guys actually play more than closers, and appear in many more tense game situations too. So are utility infielders necessary ingredients of success?
  11. I'd trade Demp in a heartbeat, even if the return is small. I might even just give him away. IMO his track record didn't justify 3yrs./$15.5 million.
  12. I think you have to keep Neifi and hope for a few weeks of Neifury so he can be traded. Eating the whole $5 million without giving him another chance to get hot would be too painful. Womack, on the other hand, makes the MLB minimum, so he can be dumped at any time. He has no role anymore anyway. He's just taking up space.
  13. We should all remember that Todd Hollandsworth put up a .939 OPS over 167 plate appearances in 2004, but only dimwits like Jimbo and Dusty believed Todd could sustain those numbers. It's just a peculiarity of baseball that mediocre and even bad players can look pretty good sometimes.
  14. So you think Jones has turned a corner and is finally realizing his full potential? If so, I'm sure you're in the minority here. Most of us just see a mediocre player on a hot streak.
  15. Since going 6-11 in his first 2 games Womack is 7-38(.184 BA). Hendry is a dork but I'm sure he hasn't forgotten that Womack is a scrap heap player that 29 teams didn't want. Maybe it's wishful thinking but I'm guessing Womack might not be around much longer.
  16. Jones' trade value will likely never be higher and the Cubs are not contenders. Trading him is a no-brainer.
  17. He's only started 2 of the last 10 games after starting almost every day in his first 2 weeks. Has anyone heard anything about the Cubs' plans for Womack? To me it looks like he might be on the way out. With Nevin and Bynum playing more I don't see any place for Womack.
  18. I predict Kerry will try and fail to resuscitate his career in 2007 and retire in the offseason.
  19. I predicted 15 starts for Kerry -- 5 good, 5 so-so, and 5 meltdowns, and I was accused of excessive pessimism. Kinda funny in retrospect.
  20. Yeah, it seemed illogical to me to continue an appeal for a player who was injured.

  22. Anyone believe he's actually injured bad enough for the DL? Anyone believe he's actually injured at all?
  23. Crawford will soon be horribly overpaid because of his speed and considering what we would have to give in trade to get him I don't want him as a short-term stopgap. Speed is fun and all but the Cubs have a lot of other holes to fill. Better to save money and trade bait for something besides Crawford.
  24. Does defense count for anything? Pierre throws like a 10 year old girl, Corey throws like a grown man.
