  1. Best thing that could happen for the Cubs outfield now is that the Cubs fall out of WC race as quickly as possible so we can get a good look at Murton and Pie.
  2. I'd guess about 2M. Possibly 3M, but not likely. And of course he won't get any more multi-year offers.
  3. He'll quit. His ego won't let him accept the puny contract offers he'll get. He already has adequate HOF credentials anyway.
  4. I'm a confirmed Baker basher but even I wouldn't defintively lay 50% of the blame at his feet. He has done plenty to make bad situations worse but some things that have gone wrong were out of his control. Now if it's true that Prior's and Wood's health issues are the result of Dusty riding them way too hard during the stretch run in 2003, then I would agree that Baker is a franchise-wrecking monster. Unfortunately it's hard to prove that.
  5. I'm not a fan of the "productive out" mentality. With an attitude like that you may as well sac bunt every time a man is on base.
  6. I would like to see Aram change his fitness program in the offseason. He's not as chiseled as a lot of power hitters and he could probably do with harder workouts. He really needs to find a way to keep limber. Stretching, massage, yoga, accupuncture, whatever it takes to prevent all these nagging muscle tweaks that keep slowing him down.
  7. Frostwyrm, what the heck is that in your sig? I take it's a horror movie of some kind. Scared the crap out of me last night when I was scanning the boards last night. Large Marge! I'm not sure if it was technically Large Marge, since it was her ghost. That's a bit of a metaphysical question.
  8. That's the 2nd time this game a poor Ramirez throw cost a run.
  9. Wherever Baker goes I hope he has input in personnel decisions. Much comedy would ensue if he could get Neifi, Estes, Holla, and Macias signed to his new team
  10. 11M is only a few million more than elite closers are paid. It would suck to overpay for a closer, but it's preferrable to putting Wood in the rotation and having him land right back on DL again. People, including myself, are going to speculate about this stuff. That's what message boards are for.
  11. I can envision some hilarious scenarios in which Dusty is on a small market team that is forced to rebuild from within, yet he still refuses to play the youngsters. Or he could end up in a big market with a media and fan base that are far less forgiving of failure than Chicago. Dusty thinks he has it bad in Chicago, but it can get a whole lot worse for him depending on where he goes.
  12. I disagree. Can you imagine a rotation of Prior Z Burnett Wood Maddux? 4 flamethrowers and a crafty vet. Yeah, but that assumes Wood can stay healthy as a starter. I really think the organization will be much less inclined to gamble on Wood's health if Burnett is on the team. They will stick him in the bullpen where his arm is in less danger and he could be a closer or a dominant setup man. Hill and Williams can fill the 5th starter slot adequately. It's not like you even need a 5th starter all the time.
  13. I'm guessing Kerry's fate depends largely on whether we can get AJ Burnett. With Burnett, Z, Prior, Maddux, and Hill/Williams in the rotation the Cubs would probably want Kerry in the bullpen as closer or setup man. Without Burnett the Cubs would probably let Kerry start again.
  14. Everything would be simpler if Hendry hadn't given Baker a 4 year contract. I expect the next Cubs manager will get a 3 year deal at the most.
  15. That was my opinion too. I thought Gerut was a lousy pickup for a team in need of immediate help, but if he comes to spring training fully healthy then he could be very useful next year. The Pirates were already out of contention for 2005 when they got Gerut so it could still end up a good deal for them and it's way too early to say Hendry fleeced the Pirates.
  16. I have lost faith in Rothschild, but Dusty most probably deserves some blame for health issues. Prior and Wood were nos. 1 and 2 in the majors in pitches per start in 2003, and Dusty rode them especially hard during the stretch run. They have never been the same since then. People will point to this for many years to come and wonder if Dusty ruined these guys.
  17. That's pretty illuminating stuff. Where did you get the list for everyone's OPS since April? That's definitely something I'd like to have access to.
  18. Before Nomar returned Neifi was very quickly regressing to his awful awful non-Rocky career norms. Except for April he was a huge drag on the offense.
  19. Maddux will keep playing. He said he's satisfied being the 5th best starter on whatever team he belongs to. With the pitching talent in MLB being so diluted that shouldn't be difficult.
  20. I just about made the song from that movie my ringtone yesterday. I just found a cool LM gif file through google. She will be my sig now.
  21. Contrary to the hate, these two are ones that have played up to expectations or exceeded expectations this year. They are NOT the problem with this team. So sucky players are only a problem if their suckiness is unexpected? Actually, they don't suck. Yes, on this board they suck, but in reality, they don't. Which reality?

  23. I don't remember seeing that one even in little league.
  24. I would like to see some unambiguous "white flag" type moves soon. If the moves are subtle Dusty won't understand them, so Hendry better send clear messages. Dumping Neifi and Holla would be an easy start.
  25. "Worst accident I ever seen" - Large Marge.
