  1. Is Murton hot because he's facing lefties or would he be hot no matter who he bats against? Before answering, he's struck out five times in 10 at-bats against righties. Hasn't he also gotten 3 hits in those 10 ABs? I'll ask again, is he hot because he's facing lefties or would he be hot anyway? I like Murton a lot, and would hope some of the vets would learn his plate discipline. I also don't want him in a position to be overmatched. As I said yesterday, I wouldn't have a problem with him facing a rookie righthander or a below average righthander. So, would he be playing considerably less under this scenario vs. the way he's being used now? I'm just glad that we're seeing two lefties this series. Again, I go back to my desire to get a true everyday leftfielder....the same desire I stated last off-season. Murton hit righties in the minors just fine, and when the alternative to Murton is a piece of excrement named Todd Hollandsworth I'll take Murton.
  2. You can't be serious. Look at his game log. Do you honestly believe you can use a rookie this infrequently and expect good results? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=6254
  3. Ronny Cedeno or any other rookie would certainly have been benched if they put up numbers like Neifi's, but when a veteran does it the guy "has saved us" and we don't dare push him out of the starting lineup. This is as extreme a double standard as I've ever seen in sports.

    Macias

There is lingering dislike for Macias from last year, when he played way too much and kept batting at the top of the order. It also didn't help that he had starts in the outfield while Kelton and Dubois were rotting on the bench.
  5. I liked that remark someone made a few days ago about "the corpse of Ronny Cedeno" being part of the Cubs' bench. I think the "The Corpse" would be a cool and appropriate nickname for Ronny.
  6. Probably true.
  7. Ronny Cedeno plays very good defense, couldn't possibly hit much worse than Neifi, and provides upside for the future. Offensively Neifi is as good as he'll ever get and he's terrible. I couldn't imagine any intelligent manager wasting time with a dead end like Neifi when Ronny Cedeno is available. Neifi and Holla get my votes for least valuable players on the team, largely because of how they've been used. The sad thing is they could have been valuable bench players. As starters they are utter crap.
  8. Gah! The 80's! Actually, I like 80's music. No worries. I love 80's music. The cheesiness makes it good! I put on some Duran Duran just last night.
  9. Gerut finds a way not to get out. He's awesome.
  10. Albert hasn't been hitting well so he's trying to get him going I guess. It was still dumb. This is Albert Pujols we're talking about. Keep the runner parked on first base and let Pujols swing away.
  11. In all seriousness I wish Wilson had been retained and Cedeno left in Iowa.
  12. Dubois got his first AL home run today, but overall it's been a rough beginning over there. I'd still take him over Holla and Gerut, who have been brutal lately.
  13. If you go back to 07/07 he's 3-29. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/gamelog?playerId=3141
  14. Everyone should be upset with Hollandsworth. He's a starting left fielder with a utility infielder's numbers.
  15. Hollandsworth in a 3 for 29 slump. Wish I could say I was surprised.
  16. Actually, against Carpenter it's not a bad idea to load up with the LH. I think he might be the best in the game against RH batters: .172/.212/.457 LH batters: .252/.314/.712 It'll be nice to have Murton/Cedeno off the bench late in the ballgame to face King, Flores, etc. I actually don't mind our RH-batting rookies sitting against someone like Carpenter, who is capable of dominating RH hitting. What bugs me is that our rookies sit against ALL righties, even the really crappy ones.
  17. Wow, I haven't read a pro-Neifi post in a while. All his other fans on this board deserted him, so I'll give you points for standing by him.
  18. I seem to recall getting swept by a Braves team that had 10 rookies on its roster. I also recall that 4 Braves rookies were in the starting batting order for the last game.
  19. I don't think Gerut will help us this year. He's been terrible since May and his knee is still screwed up. As a long-term project you could argue that he'll be a different player when he comes back with a healed knee next spring, but for this season I would just leave him in the minors where he could play every day.
  20. Maybe I'm a pessimist but I think Gerut will be a crappy offensive player for the Cubs and we will regret this trade. He will be Hollandsworth with less offense and a bit more defense. I will be glad to be wrong about this.
  21. The Indians also got shut out and got only 5 singles and 1 walk. Bad night for the whole Indians lineup.
  22. At what position? I would guess CF. I'm thinking Left field since Holla is struggling.. But probably not badly enough for Dusty to bench him. Dusty doesn't like Hairston and a righty is pitching tomorrow so I guessed CF for Gerut.
  23. At what position? I would guess CF.
